A background for the opening of my game, "The Adventures of Jon Rutherford: Tablet of Altheria"

Tell me what this scene makes you think, and any suggestions you have on it, please make them! Thanks!

Sounds and looks very sweet! Can't wait.

Grundislav, nice game so far! I've just got a bit of a problem. Not really stcuk, more of a bug. After going into the cafeteria, then going out, I can't get back across the bridge to get to the map screen! Please help! I want to learn the SECRET OF CARVER ISLAND!!

(EDIT)

I've added more shading to the three bottom backgrounds, hence why the screenshots are out of date.

Timosity, if you STILL need beta testers, I'd be happy to test the game for you. It sounds like a high quality product from what I've read.

For a sketch, this is looking like it could turn out to be an excellent background! I didn't even notice half of the perspective problems mentioned here, so you're safe there. The one thing that screaks at me though is the door, which is out of perspective. The top edge of it should be angled upwards. But other than that, add some color, a little lighting and BAM!

The y both look pretty good, but I agree with everyone else on the matter. Also, the priest's scras look a bit too big, they kinda (to me) look like his fave has been sewn up with a needle and thread. Perhaps a change in color, or maybe width could change this. Good job overall though!

There is only one dead-end in the entire game, and it is right at the end.

You're completely able to escape the Underwater World with what you currently have, or can find underwater.

Good luck!

Looks great Grundislav! I've heard talk of the first Carver Island games, but I've never actually played them myself. Looks like I have something to do later today...  ;D

Ladyjenkx:

Well, how did you find the body last time?

COMPLETE WALKTHROUGH FOR FINDING BODY ON DAY 5:

Spoiler
You used the detector, didn't you? Well, we need a new stick, a new peice of cord or rope etc... and a possesion of the person we're trying to find. Here it is in balck and white: Get the mask, apron and machete from Jim. Use the machete as the stick. The welding mask is the possesion. Use the scissors (from the dresser in the lounge) on the apron to get rope dealie. Use things together. Dip in salt. Wave over shackles in hidden room in kitchen. Find body.

That should do it. Good luck finishing the game.

Who said High School was easy?

Jon Rutherford isn't a cool kid. He doesn't play sports, isn't in band, or any particular after school activities. He has two friends; Claire, his girlfriend and Peter, who he's known since grade two. Life is normal for Jon, until one day he and his friends stay behind after school for help. After a very nasty blow on his head, Jon finds himself trapped in the abandoned and dark school.

    *  Explore Craig Park High School, finding ways past locked doors and searching for your friends.
    * As you explore, uncover secrets about the school's past, and about the hooded figures perusing the hallways.

That's the main plot synopsis of my game. This is my first game made using AGS. It runs in 320 by 240, and features completely original graphics, and original music . The game will be full length, with a light hearted turned dark atmosphere and interesting plot.

Well, I've been hard at work on this game again. Working valiently, just trying to get further and further into the game. I've now completely finished the GUI, complete with custom Save/Load GUIs, custom Inventory GUI, and a custom QUIT GUI. Whoo.

Artist needed? Well, back when I was working on this game before, Evil had signed up to do some Dialog Portraits. He made the one in the screenshot below. I don't know whether he's still interested in doing the rest, but if not, I'm on the look out for a dialog portrait artist! Must be able to capture relatively the same still of the dialog picture below, doesn't need to be coloured. If interested, PM me and I'll send you some sprites to try out!

Beta Testers! The rest of the IA team has been testing and trying the current Beta, but Snake, if you're still interested, you can still be a beta tester too!

That's all the news updates!
But for now... Gaze upon screenshots... Go on... Gaze...

Jon talks about his best friend Peter.

The intro to the game features an authentic, old english witch burning.

Shadowy figures talking about the main character...

Oooooh. Me likes! It kinda reminds me of a mix between Fester Blatz's shop in SQ3, and DoTT style art. Keep up the good work!

The monkey has a starchy tongue from eating an un-ripe bannana (Don't you just hate that?).

Although it's been done cliche, Ias best as I can remember all the games I've played with romance, it has been done pretty good. One game that truly sticks out in my mind (Albeit not an adventure game per-se) would be Metal Gear Solid. The character developement in that game is amazing, and by the end, you feel for every character, making the outcome of decisions made earlier in the game even more profound.

*SIGH* I love that game  ;)

Anyway, I'm trying to have a romantic sub-plot in my game. Hopefully I can build the characters enough to get the player to care for them.

I'm working on a background right now... So count me in  ;D

EDIT: Just finished the outline of the background, need colour and shading now.

This is my first attempt at an AGS game. It's called (As you could probably guess):

"The Adventures of Jon Rutherford: The Tablet of Altheria"

That's a mouthful, eh? Here's the info.

Plot:
Jon Rutherford is a senior year high school student. One day, he and his friends Tanya and Ian go to see their Biology teacher after school about an assignment they're working on. On the way to the Biology room, the power goes out. Emergency lights turn on. The Biology teacher is missing and the doors to the school are locked. Now Jon and his friends must escape the school, and pehaps on the way discover a secret the school's been hiding for many years...

The game will be horror, with a dash of comedy. I'm hoping to create an actually semi-serious game, of course it will most likely turn out more funny than scary.

Here's a couple samples to help you get acquainted with the game's style.

Jon Rutherford investigates the Biology Room
NOTE: This isn't a finished background, but it's getting close.

Walk Jon walk! For everlasting justice!

So there we have it. Hopefully (If the pace continues like it has these past few days), I should have some real work to show you soon. Perhaps in a few weeks, maybe even a demo!

Just finished, I saw the ending coming a mile away though.

The game had a grim feeling, it'd be sweet to see more. I really started to feel for the character of Kay, and I'd like to see more of his "Adventures".

For a first game, I'd say it was pretty enjoyable. My only main gripe (Besides Lo-Res Roger ^_-) was that the character just walk TOO SLOW. Fix that and the next room game, or whatever you do next will probably be even better.

Great start!

Danny:
Spoiler
Try combining everything except the scissors. Kinda like a screwdriver. Too bad it falls apart everytime you try to open the vent with it. You need to keep it together. What happens to PVC when it gets hot?

Great game! A few bugs though:

Pressing Ctrl-X lets you teleport between rooms.
The (Non existant) north walking animation need work  ;)

Other than that, pretty good.
