Blackthorne! You haven't been on msn for ages, I miss our talks. I blame you entirely ;)

Yeah, it is entirely my fault!  I rarely use MSN.  Mostly because I'm lazy.  But I like how we don't chat for a while, and in the interim, you really got your shit together musically, and your band is sounding awesome!  I remember when you started that, and could barely play!  It's like watching a younger cousin grow up.  Tear.

And, also, I don't talk to him much, but I have a soft spot for Nacho (Farlander) in that I know he has a relative with kidney failure, who has to do dialysis, and he's always encouraged me in a positive manner about my experiences with kidney failure and dialysis.

I'm good friends with Klytos.  We founded "Infamous Adventures" and have made several games together, but when he and his brother came to the States on Holiday, they cruised by my neck of the woods and crashed at my place for an evening.  Though he lives in Australia, I do consider him a good friend - I'm fortunate that way.

I've also met and conversed with some great folks around here - including Cameron, who I enjoy talking to about music in the rare instance that I'm on MSN.  Alliance is a good chap too - kid's got chutzpah.

I like that making AGS games has given a good friend in my life.  I can say that my life would be irrevocably different without it.

I think the use of CGI, and 3D modeling, is not only overused in films but also in games as well.

Seriously, every freakin' video game today just looks like a modeler's playground.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Resonance

This game looks mighty nice, and I'm literally peeing my pants with excitement at the thought of playing it.

Seriously, this looks great.

Hey, I really dig your music.

"Upon His Throne" reminded me of Supertramp, in a really good way.  I like the way you sing - it's not typical of today's male singers.  The phrasing is nice, and the lyrics are quick, witty and have a great feel.

I'd listen to what you're putting out.

Keep your chin up, man.

Living with a disease does suck, but it doesn't change who you are.  It might require a little more daily effort - but in the end, you're going to be stronger for it.

Hey Buddy,

I'm not diabetic, but I have End Stage Renal Disease, which means my kidneys have failed and I'm on dialysis.  I can say that diabetes is managable, and it's not as bad as you could think.  Make sure you take care of it, if it is diabetes, or you could end up with failed kidneys and on dialysis, which sucks a major dog bone.

The small diabetes needles are WAY better than the 15 gauge needles I get every other day for treatment.  Two of them, into an A/V fistula (google it) in my arm.  Not fun!

This may seem a bit rude to ask but are you on the transplant lists? If so how long will you have to wait for a transplant?

Not rude at all - I like talking about my experiences with kidney failure.

Yeah, I am on a list for a transplantation.  It's a varied and complicated procedure, and there's really no set "time" in which I could get a kidney.  They need to match you, based on several factors including blood type and antigen matching, and when a kidney comes in the system in your area, you're matched - if you're a perfect match your chances of getting are the best - unless several people match.

It's a crapshoot.

I've had a transplant before from a living donor - my father.  Initially, it went well, but the kidney was damaged in an unreleated follow-up surgery and it never quite functioned well for the three years I had it.  It worked well enough to keep me off dialysis, but I had a host of other problems.

It failed, actually, a year ago this week and I returned to dialysis.  I've been on dialysis now for a year - it's a four hour treatment where they clean my blood and remove the excess fluid that builds up as my kidneys no longer filter out the water and toxins.  The procedure itself is relatively painless, but it can leave me exhausted, dizzy and groggy.  But you get by.   The illness, however, leaves me with a lot of time to work on games, heh, so it's good for all of us, eh?

Rui, you did some amazing work on that Aria.  Nice job.

Ultimately, you have to make the game that you'd like.  The thing about Hitchiker's Media is that it appeals to different people for different reasons.  There's so many layers, that it touches upon different people's psyches in different ways.

Like me, I think the towel is possibly the funniest thing in the universe.

In the end, make your game the way you want it - what makes you laugh, what makes you think, and what makes you believe that it's a good game.

Don't panic.

It's because of your screen-name.  With the quotes in your actual name, it confuses the system.

When I send you PM's, I use your signup name, "Redrum".

General Discussion / Re: What is Britishness?

I hate generalizing, so don't hate me for it.

But, oddly enough, when I think of "British" I still think Imperial.

As Mandarb said "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger is a classic 80's Piano Ballad.

Maybe "No One Is To Blame" by Howard Jones.

and, as far as REO goes - "Can't Fight This Feeling" is really their most famous song.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Crit this track, please

I find it boring, and the sound-effects get really annoying after a while.  I mean, really, it's five minutes of meandering.  If I was high on X, I'd still get bored and go fly kites.

I'd say reduce the time, and stop the repetive sound effects - and work on more orchestration.  Good luck!

Why do we use low-resolutions?

Well... because bigger isn't always better.

Lists are all subjective:  I read an opinion in this thread that Space Quest III was mediocre, while I believe it to be one of the best adventure games of all time.

I think your list, however, is a pretty good jumping point for a beginner to take notice of.  One must play these games and form their own opinions.

Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates by Tom Robbins was one of the best books I have ever read.

It's like Fat Elvis.

It's fat - it's bloated.... it's epic.

But it's still Elvis in the end.

Though I liked Pirates 1....er... Skinny Elvis better.

Helm offered valid criticism, but you also have to think about the fact that he's very tenacious about what he likes - which is usually very specific and niche.  He makes music himself, and it's in a completely different genre than Cameron's music.

Not everyone is going to like "your shit" - especially when it has a more mass and commercial appeal than what they're into.  People with specific and niche tastes in art in music can often get upset when the genre they love, worship, adore and study isn't as popular as other forms.  Not saying Helm is like that, as he's a very intelligent and broad thinking chap, but I know a lot of people that adopt the "everyone else is stupid for not liking what I like" mentality.
