Jesus Christmas!

Stop the madness people!  Erpy, arguing with Jodo isn't going to do one bit of good.  Just forget about it.  ALL OF US..... let this LIE..... let's come back at a later date and see if he comes up with anything....... let's forget the past, start a new year over, and give him time to show he's working on something.  This thread isn't doing ANYONE a bit of good!  We can critique when he posts something new, or adds to his site.  Until then, let's just stop!

Squinky,

I dunno about a demo, off the bat - sometimes you can see a real project just if they post enough screenshots, and talk about their programming and plot development in some kind of real manner.  Kodo Jast's posts and website are vague at best, but there have been some projects which have started which have great potential, and no demo yet.  It's a fine line, methinks..... people just have to remember not to act all HIGH and MIGHTY like Kodo Jast, and just work until you have something to show..... I mean, the guy HAS produced demos before, and I'm sure you heard all about Roger's adventures, first in psychedelic land, and then in the land of seven SCI screens linked together.  Technology demos, he called them.  To "see if AGS worked".  Now we all know AGS works.  He's just blowing smoke; when he started this project,  he begged people for help..... Muzlak Oofmay created a background in VGA style to show him what he could do, and then he was like, "GOOD, now make as many backgrounds as you can......" He demanded it out of someone who wasn't willing to join a team yet..... he's just a nut ball.  Instead of trying to get real help, or be a team player, he's just rude and demanding.  Like people should bow to him; that's the biggest fault of some people who don't post demos in the forum..... wait till you have product till you demand clout.

Yeah,

People want to be supportive and give advice on this project, but it's hard when he says "The demo IS on Kazaa..." then someone politely says "I'm sorry, I can't find it..." and Jodo Kast immediately says "Quit whining, you unintelligent being!  It's not my fault you are a moron!".. How is one NOT supposed to respond to such brusque behavior?

He is rude, and hostile towards pretty much everyone - even those that would give him real advice on his game.  Which I have.... I thought I made some decent points about moving the games setting to the present day and the conflicts to the games plot it presents.   Now he can take it or leave it (I have the suspicion he doesn't care what anyone says, and he'll do what HE wants) but he's alienating the community at large that could help him, and being just cold to people.

Another point, yes, flaming him isn't going to help anyone in the long run, and continuing to post such things won't solve anything.  He's a stubborn, inflexible person who talks a great game, and I believe gets off on the reactions he drags out of people.  Who else around here gets 60 posts a day, and half of them deleted by the end of the day?  He has no inherent creedance to his words, but in some bastardly strange way, we give him credit by the sheer amount of good words and posts we send this way.  We ALL need to let this lie, and let his game either appear, or fade into obscurity.

Most of us around here are civil, especially to each other, and we work hard to form a supportive and constructive community.  No one is perfect, that's for sure, but I know there are quite a few smart and talented fellows out there.  We need not waste our time worrying about Jodo Kast's project.  Most of us have our own..... and as sickeningly entertaining as Jodo's threads CAN be at times, we need to stop the madness.  I mean, seriously, now I sound like and infomercial.

Oh, it takes place in the present time?

That sucks.

The tone of that game was set by it's use of the 20's.  The story will have to change much.  Why there is no causeway to the island will have to be explained (The state would have built one, or if the Colonel is so rich, why didn't he build one..... I mean there was a road leading to his house in the original game, the swamp just overtook it) People have cell-phones, motives are different..... this is going to be a completely different game.  I'm not sure you should call it the Colonel's Bequest.... I think this is heading towards a more original creation that a remake..... which of itself isn't a bad idea, but now it just seems like a bite off the original now, doesn't it?  What war was the Colonel a Hero is?  World War II?  Korea?  Why would he have a war horse?  The last war they were used in as cavalry was The Spanish American war, which the original Colonel fought in.  Blaze was his prize horse from that.  Will the colonel still have such a stereotypical cook as Celie, the black-voodoo woman?  Much story rewriting will have to take place....  Perhaps you should rename the heroine as well, as the name Laura Bow is an homage to a 20's movie star, Clara Bow.  Why don't you call her something like Angela Jolene or Julie Stile.  What about Kathy Dunst?  Or Laura Prepon?  Hmm.. also, the other names in the game are homages to 20's people.  Clarence Sparrow is an obvious refrence to Clarence Darrow, the atheist trial lawyer whose sweeping speechs moved jurys to tears.  He defended the Scopes Monkey Trial.  Maybe you should rename him Johnny Sochran.  Or R. C. Bailey.  Or maybe Jim "The Hammer" Shapiro...... I dunno.  Gloria Swansong?  Refrence to Gloria Swanson, who was famous in the early days, but later became famous for her role in Sunset Boulevard in the 50's.  So, a washed up or older actress today..... Maybe you could rename her Bette Meddler, or Goldie Prawn, or Diane Beaton?  These things should be considered, if the game is moved to present day.

Heheh.  He's in command of a Pi team! (It appears the "Pi" post was deleted after I wrote this.  Jodo said that the team consists of 3.14 people.)

Well, at least you have SOMETHING to show now, Jodo..... I'm glad you put up something, even if it is stock poser characters.  I still think you have no game demo, which is OKAY, I mean, you're working on something.... but you didn't have to lie about a demo.  You could have just said "We're working on the game.... here are some pictures of what we're doing....."... instead of sending people on a wild goose chase for a non-existant demo.

I look forward to seeing some backgrounds, just a suggestion.... Lillian's Hair is very off for the style; she should have a short bob haircut, as she was a traditional 20's flapper.  Check out pictures of Clara Bow (the actress) for reference. (In fact, the name Laura Bow is a play/homage on Clara Bow)

Hi.
Anyone know how to rip backgrounds from QFG 1 vga like in QFG 4 1.5 for example? It's hard to do this using print screen because all the characters will stay.

Okay, Use print screen to capture the screen once.  Then move the character to another part of the screen.  Capture it again.  Paste the new image in a layer over the old one.  Cut out the character, and voila.  Blank room.

Dude, this game looks like it sucks.  The artwork OBVIOUSLY needs more LENS FLAERS!!!!!!!!

Seriously, though, looks totally awesome, and VERY promising!

Yes, I agree.  Joke gone too far.

We must boycott AGS now.  For good.  No one should every use AGS, anywhere, for any purpose, so we can send a clear message to Chris Jones........ "Screw you, and your free program too.  We hate it's convient features, and the fact that it allows any schlep off the the street to make a decent game, despite having no useful programming knowledge.  You sir, are an ignoramus for creating such a program, and how dare you put jokes in it.  For shame.  Forsooth.  Forever we hates you, Baggins.  Theif.  Theif.  It stole our precious.  We hates it forever." So, in the name of the Horned King, Lord Sauron and Darth Vader, Chris Jones we curse your name to the hallowed halls of evil doers.  You wank.  Or something.

Hey,

Your games graphics are very nice and colorful - I like them very much!  I look forward to playing your game.  Keep up the good work; don't let this one fall by the wayside!

If You READ THE THREAD, You'd see "A LONG TIME AGO", Aurora_Noir said "I'm not making the game, but I am making backgrounds."

That's all he said.

Read the thread. Don't callouslly skim.

Hi, how is the project coming along, is there a website.

Most of these projects seem dead, my friend daventry.  These threads have been dead for quite a long time.... if you didn't notice.  Also, people who use the English language use question marks after interogative statements.  Just kind of one of those rules of language one should use.

They make wonderful games, but does anyone else think the whole anonymity thing is pretensious in a way?

Uh, yeah.  "We PREFER to be anonymous, to escape POSSIBLE persecution by Sierra, and concentrate the focus on the game....."

Uh, yeah, yet you are worshiped and lauded on the forums, and if a post appears from one of the Anonymous Designers, it's like ......whoa...... gospel.  Hehe.  Oh well.  They DO make good games!

Here's a background I made today, Bob Ross style.  It's not entirely finished, but this is my first go at doing something from the ground up.  Got to admit, it was a lot of fun.

Heh, the first screenshot on the homepage is from Kings Quest V...  ...slightly edited

Uh, yeah - that was established in an earlier post.  Using some screenshots from other Sierra Games of the Period, with modifications, is something we're using right now.  They may just be place holder graphics till we are able to design ones of our own that match the quality of the game.

Dude,

Yeah - the design and idea is good.  I can see where you are going with it.  Work on him a little more, and make him a little more "Sierra"-ish and keep working.  Nice job.
