Messages - Blitzerland

Pay up or this unpleasant factoid hits the tabloids, yes?
#22
Over the shoulder?! It's a remake. That would totally change the game. Besides, he's already completed 15 rooms.  ::)
#23
Well, do you have acwin.exe in the AGS folder?

Brilliant module. I've got it working now, but for some reason, when it displays the messages, the talking view doesn't play. Is this a known bug, or did I goober something up?

In my global script, under gamestart:

CharacterControl.CreateChain(1, "SAYMSG:0; SAYMSG:1; SAYMSG:2; SAYMSG:3; SAYMSG:4;");

This is ran after the player hits a certain region:

CharacterControl.StartExecuting(cMonitor, 1);

Now, it prints the messages correctly and all that, but the talking view doesn't run as it normally does.

I want a character to talk in the background.

Simple example (AKA not the exact speech):

character[A].SayBackground("Yabba yabba?");
wait(80);
character[A].SayBackground("Moots!");
wait(80);
character[A].SayBackground("Blah blah!");

Sadly, the wait command pauses the entire game while he talks.

If I do this:

character[A].SayBackground("Yabba yabba?");
character[A].SayBackground("Moots!");
character[A].SayBackground("Blah blah!");

It skips straight to "Blah blah."

How do I get him to say these three lines of text, in the background, without pausing the game?

Wow. I weep for humanity.

I wonder if there were any adventure games on the Atari...that'd be hillarious. Damn, now I have to find a Pitfall commerical.

Advanced Technical Forum / Is this possible?

All, right, deep breath. Here goes.

I'm trying to do an action sequence in my game.

Would it be possible for a character to fire a projectile, and would it be possible for that projectile to do damage to another character when it came into contact with it?

How would I go about scripting that?

Yes, I would have to agree.

Furthermore, we are taught only one way of successfully completing an assignment or problem. This hampers us in the real world, because we lack the ability to think with an open-mind.

Also, teachers are often unmotivated due to low pay, which is stupid. Why should their pay be so low, if the world couldn't function without them. Without teachers, there would be no engineers, no goverment, no plumbers (GASP), nothing. None of the other vocations (jobs, for the simpletons) could exist without them.

That's my two cents.

Dangit! Bloody copyright infringment!

Although, I doubt very much they would sue you if you uploaded it again.

But then again, why risk it?

This does, however, raise some interesting questions. Who told Paws about the game? I doubt Paws snoops around the AGS forums, and you probably couldn't find such precise details on, say, google or some other search engine (probably).

Is there a snitch among us? Did some n00b think he was doing the right thing and report you?

I finished with 145 out of 150 points. I was so close! I wonder what the five other points were for. Oh, well. I'll play through it again.

I'd have to say Black.

Why? Because at night you can leap out of bushes and attack people!

You can also hide from the many fools that want you to do that thing known as work!

Furthermore, all my pens are black, so if I were to write the number 4, it would be black (I don't use pencils, they need sharpening too often).

Cripes, Tanker!

You post your anger at your being banned, and deny accusations of immaturity and general stupidity, and then you cuss out your banners?

Wow, that was intelligent.

Sorry to nudge into your conversation, had to say that.

Blitz I:

Ummm (oh crap, I knew they'd ask me someday)...let me quote Id. on this one: "When it's done."

This shouldn't be a problem for anyone, since you know nothing about my game (if you want to be allowed to take lots and lots of time to work on your game, don't hype or otherwise make it knownÃ,  ;D)

#36
I agree..mostly. Some people (myself no longer included, thank the lord...and my service provider) have no way to post screenies(no way to host them, AKA no website, or too small of a website).  Just a thought.

I think an ideas forum is out of the question. It would be too much work (and cash-deprivation) for poor CJ, and there is already another forum for those kinds of things (THE CRITICS LOUNGE).
#37
Not to be butting in or anything, but perhaps you would get more assistance if you were to post this in the technical forum. Just a suggestion, don't flame me (fun, but repetitive)!

HOTSPOT'S RESPONSE TO MY FINDING NOOBS GUIDE:

disagree with these two, A) not everyone is english and I commend the rest of Europe and other places for how well even the younger generation speaking English (I cant Speak a word of Hebrew but Ginny and highwayGal for example can speak perfect English.) and B) its 1337, not l33t.. n00b  ;D

disclaimer: B was a joke, please dont take offence.

I take no offense. Yes, I am very n00bish when it comes to being a n00b.

The Rumpus Room / Re: How did you find AGS?

I was looking for a good program to write a game, and I found AGS on some list (the name of which escapes me at the moment).
