The Rumpus Room / Today is November 9th
Sat 09/11/2024 08:52:26
As today is the ninth of November, I just want to ask any Germans reading this to please don't go crazy and change the course of your nation again today.

Thank you.

https://blondbraid.itch.io/vampire-vigilante

I have been trying to learn Unreal Engine as of late, and so I created a short little game project starring a vampire now
before Halloween, and of course I'd want to share it with the great community that first got me started in making games!
#3
So I've been practicing the Dragonbones program lately, and made a few sprites/animations for some standard fantasy enemies;
a generic bandit, a slime creature and a ghost so far, and I figured I might as well share them with the community if anyone wants them for an AGS project.

Happy Halloween!

So for some time I've been working on an adventure game in Unity with some friends, which was released on Steam, and as we're planning to put it on Christmas sale, I'm sharing the link here in the hope anyone interested will put it on your whishlists.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1619150/Gustav_Vasa_Adventures_in_the_Dales/

Gustav Vasa: Adventures in the Dales is a blend of a 2D adventure game centered on dialogues and interactions and a 3D skiing game where you get chased by enemy soldiers through the winter forest.
The story is based on the real historical king Gustav Vasa of Sweden and the legends and folklore surrounding the tales of how he, following the deaths of his family and most Swedish noblemen at the hands of the Danish king,
who came to earn the moniker of Christian the Tyrant in Sweden, set out on skis towards the province of the dales to enlist the help of the locals to end the danish occupation, claim the Swedish crown and avenge his family.

I've started to craft a lot lately, mostly sewing, and I'd thought it'd be nice to share and exchange some ideas here.

For a starter, I've recently started working on making a Cotylorynchus plushie for a relative's kid, and I'm pondering weather to try embroidery or fabric paint to make it more interesting.

What do you all think?

To compare, here is a reconstruction of what the now extinct Cotyloryncus may have looked like;

Any fun ideas on how to give the plushie a neat pattern or similar?

Also, does anyone have any fun craft projects of their own to share?  :)

General Discussion / Synapsid Week June 24-30
Wed 23/06/2021 10:36:13
Argh! Synapsid week will be here, just as I'm going to travel away with my family for the summer (and there'll be extremely limited wifi where I'm going), so it looks like I can't contribute anything fun while it's ongoing.  :~(
Therefore, I'm posting this info here hoping that even if I can't post a bunch of cool synapsid-themed creations myself during the week, I could at least inspire somebody else here to do it.

I strongly recomend checking out this short video explaining the topic;

So, anyone interested?

I just thought it could be good to have a thread to share stuff that has no right or reason to creep you out, but do anyway.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about things from horror media, dangerous predators, or things that are deliberately trying to be scary or humans are instinctively scared of for a good reason,
but perfectly harmless things that were either meant to be fun and friendly, or just naturally existed that way, but somehow looks cursed while doing so.  :-X

Something I've always been weirded out by is the feet of coots, they just don't look right to me, they look like absurdly long claws with some leftover skin scraps haphazardly attached to them;

Anyone else find this creepy-looking?

I've been doing 3D printing for some time now, and I just wanted to say that I've taken 3D printed dolls to the next level, and even started selling them on Etsy!  :-D
What do you all think? Any tips on where to find buyers? https://www.etsy.com/se-en/shop/GalateaDolls

Completed Game Announcements / Night witch
Thu 23/04/2020 11:50:29
Step into the role of one of the night witches, members of an all female Soviet bombing regiment during World War 2 and fight the enemies in the skies while bombing targets on the ground.

This is a simple side scrolling shooter with an arcade feel that I and Crimson Wizard did for a MAGS, but it hasn't been added to the database until now because we wanted to polish the game some more.
I hope you'll enjoy it!

The Rumpus Room / Exciting exotic animals
Tue 18/02/2020 08:16:46
I just thought It'd be really cool and fun to have a thread dedicated to share pictures, facts and videos on odd and interesting animals,
not just as a nice inspiration source for AGS projects but also just because it's fun to share animal-related things on the internet!  ;-D

For example, I just found out that there's an African pig species called the red river hog, and it looks just like a fairy-tale creature:

General Discussion / 3D printing
Sat 14/12/2019 14:39:13
I've been playing around with 3D printing lately, and of course the first thing I've decided to make into a printable model was Olga and Ivan.  :-D

I've uploaded the models here for anyone who want to print their own, and I'm curious if anyone else here has tried 3D printing and wanted to share any models or ideas?

The 30 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall has been all over the news, but it's not the only big historical event that's happened in Germany on this date; https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_9_in_German_history

So I gotta ask, what's the deal with Germans and tearing things up on November 9 of all days?  (roll)

I wound up seeing Fan4stic in it's entirety on tv because nothing else was on, and what struck me with how the movie became so bad (like 90% is just people doing technobabble in a dark room and there is a super cliche fight against a villain using a blue sky beam to destroy the world in the last 15 minutes, it makes Batman versus Superman look like freaking Star Wars in comparison) is when I realized that they were trying to make Fantastic Four into some sort of high-concept sci-fi thriller akin to Arrival. The big problem is that a high-concept sci-fi thriller like that movie actually needs a great deal of buildup and exposition in order to explain a new and different concept and a big part of what makes the story worth watching is not knowing how it will end. To compare to Arrival again, the movie centers on a scientist desperately trying to learn to communicate with a group of aliens who's language are completely different from any human language, and there is a big plot twist that makes the viewer see all the previous scenes and interactions in an entirely different light.

Meanwhile, Fan4stic is about four people with superpowers who use said superpowers to defeat an evil supervillain literally named "Dr Doom" and shout catchphrases. They are not exactly complicated characters and there is no point in trying to hide the team-members powers just to try and present them as this big surprising plot twist when literally everyone already saw all the marketing of the other Fantastic Four movie a decade earlier, unless they were either too young to see Fan4stic, or were some form of cave-dwelling hermits who only emerge from their hole in the ground once a decade.

Seriously, what's the deal with these reboots? No one would dream about making a remake of Schindler's list reimagined as a "zany" comedy where Seth Rogen accidentally saves the Jewish ghetto while falling on his butt and having a supermodel be inexplicably attracted to him, so why are so many movie executives trying to turn whimsical cartoon characters into sad grey tragic dramas that are simultaneously also supposed to be "scientific" takes on superheroes?

So I've been drawing and writing a lot lately, but I'm starting to feel the strain on my right hand and wrist, so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to alleviate it?

Apart from the Captain Obvious advice of just resting my hand.

When her boyfriend asked her to join him on a trip to a remote tropical island, Audrey was glad to join him. It seemed like a great deal at the time,
whilst her boyfriend would seek inspiration for his upcoming book on pirates Audrey wold be free to enjoy some relaxation on the local beaches.
But when her boyfriend inexplicably disappears, Audrey is forced to take matters into her own hands and soon realize that in order to find him,
she will have to investigate the legends of a treasure hidden on the island and solve the riddle of the great pirate captain known as Red Devil Dirk.

Audrey Carter and the treasure of Red Devil Dirk is meant to be an adventure game centered on exploration, not only of the surroundings but also the history of the island where the story takes place, a former pirate colony turned into into a struggling tourist trap mainly inspired by my journey to Mexico several years ago. My vision for this game is to create a completely fictional island with a history just as rich and nuanced as one would expect of a real historical place and exploriong the lore and history of it all the way from the first natives setting foot on the island, to the pirates making it their own and clashing with colonial powers, to the contemporary times of the protagonist and her struggle to find out the truth behind the tall tales and legends, but also a story about a strong and willful man hiding away a treasure beyond measure and disappearing along with it, the titular Red Devil Dirk himself.

General Discussion / Notre Dame
Mon 15/04/2019 22:35:29
Has anyone else seen the horrible news?
Notre Dame is on fire, and is badly damaged too! I'm still struggling to take this in, that this building, which has withstood centuries, several wars and has been saved by Victor Hugo himself, has fallen victim to this.

And I never got the chance to see it in person before all this happened.  :~(

Thor's hammer has been stolen by the evil giant Thrym, and so Thor must team up with Loki to retrieve it.

This game was made for MAGS in February 2019 with the theme Dressing up.

Quote from: Moderator editThis discussion has been split off from the Unavowed game announcement thread. â€"Snarky

I've been playing the game and I loved it so far, but when it came to the Bronx and the player gets a vision that shows
Spoiler
that the player had an affair with a guy while they were possessed by a demon and couldn't control their own body, and a picture taken of them together is used for a puzzle afterwards.
[close]
and I just felt terrible after seeing that. Am I the only one that feels that this scene was massively inappropriate for the game? I get that it's a way of showing how evil the demon is, but I can't help but feel like sexual abuse is an overused trope whenever people want to make a story dark and it feels unfair to have that sprung up on you without warning, especially since you are meant to create your own protagonist and identify with them.

And I wish to say that these sort of things can be extremely stressful to survivors with PTSD or people suffering from anxiety or depression, and I don't think this kind of subject should be included without a content warning.
For me personally, it took all the enjoyment out of the game and if I had known it was going to be a plot point I probably wouldn't have bought it.

I've been toying with the idea for a new character for some time now, and tried drawing a sprite for her:

(She's meant to be a tourist on a tropical island who gets involved in a mystery that makes her explore the ruins and wilderness on said island)
I'm not quite happy with the result but can't quite put my finger on what I'm unhappy with so I'm asking for some constructive criticism.

Olga and Ivan are a sniper and spotter team fighting in the great patriotic war. When a cheerful war correspondent cross their path both of them see a chance to make a grab for glory...

Sniper and spotter climbing a tower is a standalone sequel to my previous game Sniper and spotter being patriotic, and was made for MAGS in November 2018.
