Congratulations to the release! I'll try to download and install it when I find the time!

I was reminded that Spec Ops: the line is one of the most gut-wrenching games I've played,
that has some pretty intense portrayals of ptsd and the horrors of war.

Plus I saw it was currently free on Humble Bundle.

I was also moved by the first to Syberia game (I also felt on the verge of tears when the third game ended. Not because it was a sad ending, but because they seriously had the gall to end the game on a terrible cliffhanger.)

Otherwise, I think Prince of Persia from 2008 almost made me cry because of what happened in the end
Spoiler
The prince has spent the whole game trying to imprison the evil god Ahriman together with the princess Elika after Elika's father had set him free.
But it is revealed that Elika had died long before, and her father only freed Ahriman in exchange for Elika being brought back to life.
So the moment Ahriman is re-imprisoned, Elika dies, and in his grief the prince chooses to release Ahriman once more, undoing everything for the sake of Elika.

I also think Valiant Hearts is a deeply touching game, and a much more human take on war than many "realistic" war games out there.

Can I trade my silver ring for one of pure green and a silly drunken song about a goblin? :=
That's the beauty of participation trophies, everyone gets one! ;)

Haven't animated the "sticking a knife into electrical socket" animation yet, but I did animate this:

For those occasions he needs to examine something on the floor, or hide behind one of those
waist-high walls that war-zones are littered with if third-person shooter games are to be believed.

Anyway, I'll try to rest my hands this weekend,
have a happy Easter everyone! ;-D

This looks absolutely gorgeous and I'm curious to see if the world in the screenshots are from a dream sequence or another dimension.
Either way this looks great! ;-D

Looks beautiful, but unfortunately the font for the poem looks a bit hard to read.

Looks like we have a winner!
Congratulations Sinitrena, you are in the first place and awarded with the one ring of gold!

Second place goes to Baron, who gets the one silver ring.

And third to Creamy, who gets the bronze ring.

And for participation trophy I have a ring of pure green.

Happy Easter everyone! ;-D

Then I ask, if no one else is voting, would you two mind sharing the first place and host the next Fortnightly Writing Competition together?

I'd say my creative process is a bit different from what the others have described, when I have an idea for a game I usually start with making the sprites and background art,
then I start working on the first room in the game and then build the game up chronologically, making it up as I go along. I do tend to have an ending in mind when I start working,
but most of my ideas tend to shift and change as I work on them. From my experience, it's better to start with a small idea and let it grow and expand rather than starting with a big, complex idea
and gradually having to cut content, but this is my personal way of working and others have created good games from the opposite strategy.

However, most of my games have been passion projects I've done on my spare time, and if you're working on a team, you will have to accommodate the others on the project.
The more people working on a game, the more clear and concise the vision has to be in order to avoid misunderstandings and accidentally ending up with a disjointed product.

As for hiring professionals on your first project, I'd advise against it, it's better if you first do a shorter "test game" to learn the engine and practice game design,
and if you are doing a shorter project, many people here would probably help you out for free just for the fun of it.

Since we have a tie between Sinitrena and Baron, I'm willing to extend the voting until Mandle or anyone else find the time to vote and break the tie.

Is it supposed to be for a dream sequence? Because the waterfall looks truly out of this world! :)

I like the "Creepy Street Performer", I still have it stuck in my head! :)

Don't worry everyone, I promise no animals were harmed in making this game!

Looking good... my first thought was "stick that knife on the sockets!" and then thought "uhm... probably a bad idea". (laugh)
Great that you mentioned it, I've definitively need to add an animation for that in the game!

But then I realized it would be a Tardigrades Bottled Water :-X
I suppose Tardigrades water doesn't sound too appetizing, but then again, Chuck E Cheese picked a rat as mascot despite most people don't want rats near their pizza.
Any animal can be a food mascot as long as you put big eyes looking downwards on it! :P

it's a sewer level, and I know it's not exactly a creative choice,

I beg to differ (wrong)
I think this is a very rich place for puzzles and fun (Police Quest 2 was super fun). I'd be extra careful near that cobweb though. But I can already see interesting "stuff" going to happen.
You have seen nothing yet! That cobweb is small compared to those deeper in the sewer! :)

Where your characters take you for the ride is not a matter of creative choice... they decided to go down there, not you... ;) But you would probably do the same if you in the middle of an insane war, no?
Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like it!

Here's a short preview of one of the puzzles for the sewer section, still a bit of a work in progress:

The game looks better, tbh :D

It do the work very well! (nod)

It's one of the rare game that made me cry sad tears... the horror is so deep and cruel.

_
It's one of those games I've thought about playing for ages, but I've just not found the time for it.

Otherwise I agree with Crimson Wizard, the chase scene in Monkey Island 2 was a bit scary, I think it's mainly due to the gameplay mechanics.
I'd also say the Jorry Demo had some creepy atmosphere and in combination with knowing the protagonist could die, it worked pretty well.

Looks like we have some great entries!
Is anyone else still working on a submission or shall the voting begin?
