The water effects look lovely, they look good enough to be in a bottled water commercial! ;-D

Nice roll!
I'm though almost afraid of what that will do... explode? 8-0
(though maybe a opening thin line should be visible? Mostly cause it's so zoomed that it's odd that it's not there.)

You've no idea how right you are! (laugh)

I can only say that the cutscene is longer in the game and I think it will make sense in context.

Here's my latest screenshot of the game progress:

Alright, it's a sewer level, and I know it's not exactly a creative choice,
but I do have some gameplay ideas that I think will prove interesting. :)

MacGuffin, it is an object with no explicit will of its own.

I don't know....  The Ring of Sauron seemed to have quite a bit of its own will. ;)

But great topic nonetheless! (nod)
I'd say that while the characters do ask themselves on weather the ring has it's own will, the ring cannot roll into Mordor on it's own, someone has to carry it,
and it cannot speak directly to people and explain what it wants, merely influence their thoughts and feelings, and even then it is ambiguous on how much is the ring's
influence and how much is the characters paranoia and desire for power. The ring is implied to have it's own will, but it doesn't explicitly express it.

Compare the ring to say, Lumiere and Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast, who hop around and talk to the characters in the movie and you'll see the difference:

If an object can move or speak on its own, it becomes more of a character than an object. I hope this clears out any confusion.

While the hero with amnesia sounds a bit cliche, I love the art-style and the animation seems to be really good.
Good luck with the project and if it makes it to Steam I might pick it up.

My votes are as following:
Concept: DBoyWheeler - I'm just a big Lovecraft fan!
Playability: Cassiebsg - I do like the perspective, lots of puzzles could be built around it.
Artistic Execution: Matti - It's beautiful.

The theme this time is the MacGuffin, an object which exist to drive the plot forward of the story it appears in. A person or creature cannot be a MacGuffin, it is an object with no explicit will of its own. Instead the MacGuffin inspires the characters around it to take action, weather it is to find the MacGuffin, steal it or destroy it. Some common examples of MacGuffins are the holy grail, the ring from the Lord of the Rings or the watch from Pulp Fiction, but any object that has an affect on the story and it's characters can be a MacGuffin.

The rules are simple:
1. The MacGuffin has to be an inanimate object.
2. It must play an important role in the story.

The entries will be judged in following categories:
Best Writing
Best story
Best MacGuffin

Deadline: March 18th

Good Luck!

Maybe you should also consider splitting this text. It's easier to read, doesn't look like a huge pile off red letters and it's funny in its own way to click through three or four lines with that nice little punchline at the end.
Thanks for the feedback, it's easy to lose track of the readability of the text since I'm writing it, so I already know what's on the screen.
QuoteAnd oh boy those two must be great comrades, considering they are literally using the same space in this room. ;)
I don't want to spoil my own game, but their relationship will play a big role in the story and gameplay as well! :)

Anyway, I've currently spent a lot of time animating cutscenes, you can see a small sample below:

Thank you so much for your votes everyone!
QuoteThis poor fairy tale! 8-0 Never, ever let it get in the hands of this executive. I really like the duality (so to speak) of this retelling, on the one hand a fairly faithful summery, that might be directly from a wikipedia entry, and on the other the abysmal absurdities someone just interested in money could do to it. While the retelling of the writer is a bit dry and unemotional, this is of course due to the setting. She states the events of the fairy tale as facts, she doesn't exactly tell them as a story. I also like that the executive, while mainly interested in money and without any understanding of the fairy tale, still has at least some good points. (Wait, so this princess just exist to look pretty and fall head over heels for the hero? That's such a shallow and outdated character archetype and not a very inspiring character for young girls to identify with.)
Thanks! (laugh)
I got the idea from seeing so many animated kid movies trying far too hard to be the next Shrek, plus the executives line about the princess was a jab at writers wanting to appear progressive,
but instead of actually writing strong female characters just made them into inconsistent damsels pretending to be strong. (roll) The fun thing is, I found out this fairytale already has been made into an
animated movie, though it doesn't have very positive reviews from what I can tell. Hopefully there isn't fidget spinners in it at least.

I'm glad you all liked my entry and I'll try to come up with a good theme for the next round!

I did reduce the image size in the quote so I don't ruin your thread :-[
Yes, I had trouble reading the text in the full resolution version. You could easily avoid this by putting the text display over the wooden floor for this particular scene (e.g. using SayAt..). Changing the color may not be the best option since the current color may look good on other backgrounds.
I tried putting the text over the floor instead, is this easier to read?

careless players. :)

I'm totally stealing this (laugh)
Love the latest background! For some reason it feels.. homey! I mean I have a feeling I lived there as a kid.. can't explain :-[

I have a little note about this background. I found it a little hard to read the red text using this font. I think the background colors missed up my vision for this particular scene. I'd reconsider the font size. But then it's totally up to you and I am willing to adjust my vision however you wanna produce this game (laugh)
Thanks, glad you liked it! ;-D
However, the screenshot isn't the same size of the actual game, is the text still hard to read in the full size? Would it help choosing a brighter red for the protagonist's speech?

I've added a new area to the game and I'm currently working on adding different cutscenes to the gameplay of the section.
There will be a few potential death scenes as well, both for the enemy soldiers as well as careless players. :)

Gorgeous :)

QuoteHere's a background that took waaaaaay longer than I thought:
Owing to the amount of detail, I'm not surprised about that.
I often lose track of time when I take pleasure in drawing.
I can relate, but good things are worth waiting for!
