My vote:
1. AnasAbdin - It looks like a boss of a JRPG, awesome plain and simple!
2. Creamy - So simple, yet so elegant.
3. Mouth of war - the little guy just looks so darn happy!

Danvzare's idea sound hilarious!
The guy in white definitely looks like he is presenting/explaining something to an audience,
and the many-armed woman looks like she just ate something very spicy! (laugh)

The ability to travel in time is one of vast and immense power,
the power to rewrite history and evolution as we know it, remake every wrong decision and correct every mistake,
changing the future of us all by altering the past. For this reason it is of the uttermost and urgent importance that
this power at any cost is kept from the hands of the wrong persons...

Persons like this guy for example.

Hehehe...somebody has been using Phrenology to "prove" the substandard I.Q. of the natives I see... It was a great excuse to justify slavery when "science" could "prove" they ranked above animals but below European humans in intelligence.
I also love the "crocodile tears" in the painting, and the poor fellow's skull in the collection.
I want to play the game where this is the bad-guy's office, and I get to play a wiley native getting the better of him!

Love the atmosphere your painting transmits, @Blondbraid.
A taste of a rotten soul salted with arrogance and conceit, wunderful.

Thanks! ;-D
I really wanted to see if I could depict a characters mindset through the environment, and create a stark contrast to the typical stuff in pirate stories.

The colonialism angle is rather underexplored in pirate and adventure stories, and I wanted to hint at the pretty dark stuff behind all the tropical colors and gleeful treasure-hunting,
and the cabinet of curiosities is meant to reflect that spirit, as well as offering some food for thought on some of the tropes in stories about "civilized" men exploring "savage" and "exotic" lands.
Spoiler
I even played with the thought of having a dead native instead of the crocodile in the painting!

I like those pictures, CaesarCub's sunset has some lovely colors and DBoyWheeler have a nice dream-like contrast between sea and sky.

Thought I could use some practice in drawing and might as well give it a go:

While I was originally going for something baroque, it feels like it turned out rather Gothic, but nevertheless I hope the it gets some of that colonial 17th century mentality across.

I loved The Cadaver Synod for its graphical charm and its farcical representation of bureaucracy taken to new heights of insanity when deciding on matters that would affect the entire course of the future history of mankind...Much like what we are coincidentally seeing now in America and Britain (or...actually..."coincidentally"??? Blondbraid...did you actually have such a subtext in mind? If so then please submit a resume to the British parliment...I hear they are looking for smart people...)
With the new travel and passport rules, I'm not sure if they'll let me in... (roll)

But no, I started working on my game before the whole Brexit thing started, though I do think it's telling of our times if a parody of a trial that took place in the dark ages feels like contemporary satire.
As some dead guy once said, those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I'm voting for Blackudder for similar reasons, as well as being a fan of Rowan Atkinson! ;-D

While I have played your game, I did not manage to reach further than the second voyage. It's a nice game even if the controls are a bit difficult to handle,
but it would be nice if there was a small dot or icon to mark the position of the ship, since just a red trail is easy to loose track of when you are going in circles...

I also think that the spinning letters are a cool effect, and while the game do have a nautical theme, I must admit that they left me a little too seasick for my liking. :-X
Could you maybe change it so that the letters just spin in place and then stop? It was a bit difficult to read.

Otherwise, it is a fun game, the humor reminds me of games like Goat simulator and Surgeon simulator. :)

Thank you everyone for your kind words, I'm really happy that you liked it! ;-D

Nice game Mandle!
It's a great idea and I loved the slapstick humor in all the sound effects and voice-acting as well as driving in circles,
it reminds me of the scene in Borat where he flies to America and we see the weird path he takes... (laugh)

Though I must say the endless spinning text on the title screen left me a little sea-sick. :-X

Wow, and to think that I made my game with the mouse in one hand and my head leaning firmly on the other hand. I didn't even start working until halfway into the month! (roll)
But then again, looking on the final result it's about ten minutes of playtime, and it feels less like a historical courtroom drama and more like a fever-dream with popes in it than I originally intended.

Anyway, my game is complete now and I have put it up for all to play, and it will be fun to see your opinions on it! ;-D

The year is 897. Pope Stephen the sixth or seventh, is holding a trial against his predecessor Formosus,
and you have been chosen as Formosus defender. The thing is, you hardly know a thing about law.

That's probably why Stephen chose you.

This game was made for MAGS in June 2016 with the theme "Neglected Historical Eras".
The story is loosely based on an historical trial known as The cadaver synod, as well as borrowing elements from a certain medieval legend.

Just voted on greenlight, this game is so beautiful!
#2033
Looks cool, the water have some great animations and I'm curious about what the rainbow light things are!
#2034
Yes, just noticed the error in my screenshot, good thing you mentioned! :-[
But other than that, all the necessary sounds and sprites are in place and I
have yet to discover any major bugs at least.

I guess Joan Of Arc...
Good guess, but still a no. This person does share their first name with the maiden of Orleans though, so it's closer this time. :)

I do suppose you can see for yourself in the game soon enough, for it's almost complete now,
playable from start to finish (it isn't very long) and most of the sounds and graphics in place.

Now all that remains is to choose some music and draw a game over screen (attempting to troll an enraged pontiff will not be without consequence!).

I'll vote for Danvzare, the backstory for Chuck the cactus sounds equal parts fun and intriguing!

I'll have a guess:

Don Quixote: The Fool?
Nice guess, but as much as I like Don Quixote, he will not appear in this game. :(
Now I do hope I don't spoil too much, but the card I referred to is commonly known as The High Priestess, and it also has another older title...

So....Is the guy in the chair just suffering from dementia or is he actually dead?
I'm thinking the latter, in which case: Monty Python couldn't have done a better job of a farcical trial skit!!!
Well, if you are curious on the historical background, here is a link to an article on the trial, where the answer to your question can be found:
(spoiler-waring for events that took place over 1200 years ago! ;))
http://digitalcommons.law.uga.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1045&context=fac_pm

But I have also decided to put a twist of my own in the game, because I thought it would be funny to add a certain legendary medieval character into the story!
Among other tings, this character is said to have been the inspiration of the second card in the major arcana in the traditional tarot deck.
Can anyone guess which character I'm thinking of? :)

My game will be short, but I will include multiple dialog choices so that you have to play it two or three times in order to see it all.

Mandle your game looks really interesting! But then I always loved the game Pirates! so I may be a little biased... :-D
A little off topic here, but if you always loved Pirates! You should definitely play Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons.
It's like Pirates! but better. At least in my opinion. :-D
Gameplay-wise, it reminds me of The new world. It's a pretty good game about planning and resources.
QuoteAnd Blondbraid, the blond haired monk looks like that rage face that says "You don't say!".
Also that comment the monk makes is hilarious. (laugh)
The similarity was purely unintentional! I sort of recycled some sprites from a previous game I made in order to save time. Anyways, here is another screenshot of my game: I took a lot of inspiration from the Jean-Paul Laurens painting of the event, you can compare for yourselves:

My game will have a bit of a weird pacing though, first a short inventory-based puzzle to introduce the main character, while the rest of the game is essentially just one long dialogue, but I do hope the premise will be interesting enough to make up for this.
