QuoteOn the Nazi part you might like to make a difference between Wehrmacht and Waffen SS.
Soldiers and officers in Waffen SS were nazis. That was a nazi party organisation. Soldiers and officers in the Wehrmacht (regular army) where not necessarily nazis. There where of course nazis in the Wehrmacht too, but not all where.

The battle between Russia and German in WW2 was between two totalitarian regimes. I can't see that there is a good and an evil side in that conflict. It was all evil. On an individual level there was room for good, but overall it was pretty bad. Handling that well in a game is not a small task.

For a Russian soldier at the time the Russian leadership and the political officers could easily be as much a threat as the German army
I fully agree to all this and I wanted this game to be partially a satire of action movies and video games where the only goal is to kill
as many bad guys as possible because they are all evil and bad guys and was born in a different country than the "hero". I suppose another
source if inspiration for me has been the last season of Blackadder, where they used black humor to point out the absurdity of war. If I
wanted to tell a black and white story of good versus evil, I'd probably make it a fantasy story.

Here is a new picture of the spotter, which I intend to use as a sprite in the game.
He is supposed to look slobbish and maybe a bit drunk, but otherwise
a happy and carefree man, who in contrast to the
sniper do not care much for the war or ideology.
I have a feeling that something is a bit off with
this image though, but I'm not sure what...:-\

You have given me lots of ideas!:)
I am grateful for all comments that I have recieved.
I just finished a bit of concept art for the antagonist of this game, which to the suprise of none,
is Wehrmacht soldiers. While Nazis is one of the least unique video game enemies in the world (next to zombies, and Nazi zombies)
my game will hopefully have a somewhat original art style.

This is supposed to be an officer barking orders at a soldier, though I have little to no knowledge of military ranks.
I am kind of torn between adding more insignia and details or keep them simple and cartoonish. My goal is to make them look simple
yet still look like actual German soldiers and not just generic bad guys from any sci-fi dystopia.
What do you think?

QuoteNo beard and no mustache in sight. I think that is an improvement. :)
I am relived to know that! :)
I love your character design, she looks wonderful!
Perhaps too wonderful for my game...:(
The sniper is meant to be a cold and somewhat scary (yet a bit silly) character and I want her design to reflect that,
with an owl-like stare and sharp angles (I love the expressionist art style with weird proportions and dramatic shadows,
and also wanted to make it exaggerated and cartoonish at the same time).
I guess I also wanted to make her something of an anti-heroine, who isn't nice or pretty in any way yet still a
sympathetic character by the end of the story.

I guess I was also partially inspired by this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=369&v=hGlJdXwOYWM

All the same, your character design is great and I especially
love the watercolor look.

I like the perspective on this picture, though
the area on the right is a bit of a mess in my opinion. It's hard to make out the angle of the
fence and the wooden things around it, is it supposed to be some kind of porch?
As of that big gray bit of road, maybe some cracks or a water puddle?
Perhaps a parked car or bicycle could fill it up, but it could also
make the scene a bit cluttered. When it comes to the hotel, it already
gets the viewers attention by being in the middle of the picture and taking up
a lot of space, but you can always add a big sign over the entrance or something similar.

QuoteMaybe the comissonar should have a pair of spectacles?
QuotePerhaps some more stars?

I'm so sorry, but this image just popped into my head and I just couldn't resist. ;)

But on a serious note, I am grateful for your support.
Regarding the female sniper, I wanted to make her look weird and menacing,
but she is NOT supposed to have a beard and mustache. If it looks that way
I'm glad that it was mentioned so that I can remedy that. She's meant to
look silly yet scary, but hopefully the unibrow and stare will be
enough to get the point across. I will post a new image soon!

I can't tell which paint program you are using, but by using transparent layers on to of
each other you can easily draw on top of your sketches instead of going through the trouble
of erasing them first, and it makes it easier to move objects around. When it comes to
perspective, straight lines and 90 degree angles can make it look a bit artificial.
After all, Francis Bacon said that “There is no exquisite beauty… without some strangeness in the proportion.”
It might also be a good idea to use other pictures as a reference, the fastest way
would probably be to google for photos for comparison.

I guess it all started when I saw an old WWII propaganda cartoon (Der fuehrers face, in case anyone is wondering),
and I got inspiration for a game set during the second world war, in a cartoonish art style,
visually I'm going for something in between a 1940s cartoon and expressionist art.

The main heroes would be a soviet sniper and her spotter in a darkly humorous story
akin to a buddy cop comedy in a war zone.

The sniper
(A strict and menacing character devoted to her motherland and strong believer in the communist ideology)

The spotter

(A jolly, if shabby man who isn't particularly attached to anything)

I wish to strike a balance between cartoonish and historically accurate.
On one hand, a real soldier would have more straps, bandoleers and details on their uniform,
but on the other hand it would be hard to draw and could easily look cluttered on a cartoon character.
These pictures are just concepts, but I plan to use them as reference when I draw the sprites for the game,
so I'm looking for some feedback and opinions as to weather the uniforms look right and recognizable despite
a somewhat simplified style.

The characters, from left to right, are supposed to be a commissar, a night witch (not an occult sorceress but a female pilot) and a simple solider.
Can they be recognized as such by their uniforms? I have a hard time finding color pictures from the time in question.
Any thoughts and opinions on the character concepts?

This is the story of a prince who, due to a tiny attempt to murder his own sister and usurp the throne,
has been forced into exile in a remote mountain monastery. Surprising to none, something sinister dwells
among this isolated group of men dressed in dark hooded cloaks.

Seriously, has anyone seen a story about a rural community
that DIDN'T hide something fishy?

It was hard to decide whether to label this game as a whodunit or a comedy since it has elements of both,
though not much in the way of puzzles. The focus of the game is to figure out the identity of a killer
through dialogues with the witnesses and suspects and careful examinations of the surroundings.
Or mindlessly bumbling around until you accidentally stumble onto the solution.
Either way is fine with me.

While technically not my first game, this has been something of a beginners project for me
and I hope this will serve as a stepping stone for more elaborate future projects.

Here is a link to the game: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/1930/

This game is kind of a standalone sequel to The Viking Guardsman(http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/1919/).

I have completed the game and uploaded it.

It is finished!

I really like the style of the characters and would
love to see a game with the characters in the top sketch,
they seem to have a charming British witticism about them.

The game looks really interesting, it reminds
me of Wolfenstein: the new order in a good way.

this looks very sweet, but is there enough blasphemy in it? No idea if I want to play a monk... ;)

Well, the protagonist doesn't want to be a monk either.
The "hero" of the game also got sent to the monastery as punishment for trying to stab his own sister to death
Spoiler
and he is probably the most sane person in there.:-\

I guess it has already been said,
but the artwork looks great and furthermore,
unique and memorable.

I like the atmosphere, it really captures the feeling of the
classic James Bond movies.

A wild guess: Turkey?
Anyways, is the plot inspired by The Name of the Rose?

Yes, the answer to both questions is yes!
#2357
I just finished one of the backgrounds which will be used in the game.
Believe it or not, this was inspired by a real life location.

Can anyone guess which location?
#2358
I tried it, and it worked.
Many thanks for your help!

How can I use the script to make an interaction play out differently depending on weather a certain npc is in the room?
Long story short, if the player clicks on a door while the character is in the room they will not allow the player to use the door,
but if the character isn't in the room, the player can use the door. I have everything else worked out, except which script command
to use in order to determine whether the npc is in the room.

The screenshots looks absolutely lovely and a game with a dinosaur protagonist seems like a wonderfully new and
refreshing choice for a main character. The game looks like a rounder and friendlier version of the movie The land before time.
What's not to like?
