The Rumpus Room / Re: What grinds my gears!

As for what grinds my gears, because I just saw it in "Lost in Space" (a show someone recommended to me as great), is scientist people, intelligent people, smart people, getting to a new planet or new piece of rock in space, and then immediately (or in the first few moments possible), taking off their helmets, and having one guy be all "Oh no, why did you do that!", and the reply being "Oh, the air is safe!".

Very often, even in the same episode, everyone later comes down with a "mysterious" illness, and they're all stupefied as to how that could have happened, and yet they do it again in a later episode.
A big reason I didn't like Prometheus.

When people got killed in the first Alien movie, it was scary. When people got killed in Prometheus, it was basic Darwinism.

Did Ghost make the BASS style template that comes with AGS? I am currently using that for my latest work.

He did indeed. There was little he couldn't do.  :~(
Same here, and his work helped me a lot in mine.

I was also following him on Deviantart, and his pictures of fairies and mermaids were always a joy to behold, and it's a terrible shame that he left so suddenly and so soon.

Rest in peace, Ghost.

Wow, that's quite the CV. (laugh) I have to admit I know none of the main actors from the Swedish Empire, but I'll definitely read up more on this guy.
That's the great thing about Sabaton, all their best songs have a great history lesson in them!

Anyway, as great a strategist as Gustavus Adolphus was, one of his main faults was overeating, and it's even said his weight contributed to him being killed in Leipzig as he was too
heavy for his nearest men to carry him to safety after he got injured. So naturally, Swedes decided to commemorate his death day by eating a pastry!

Looking back, I realized I've won a MAGS competition for the first time, and then the entry my team worked on won another MAGS again this year.

Also, I've gotten into 3D printing, and I've made a lot of progress in Maya (as in the 3D modeling software, not the native Mexican language).

I'm a history nerd and a Swede, I pretty much had to link this:

Congratulations to fernwelten!

I'm curious as to what theme you'll choose for next MAGS!

QuoteBut keep in mind: pineapple on a pizza is not enough :D
Hey, pineapple is perfect for pizza!

Anyway, awesome BG, lorenzo! You wouldn't have happened to have been watching any Werner Herzog films lately?  :)

Thanks Cassie.

QuoteYou were suppose to listen to the music, and figure out by the name of the music tracks to which directions they pointed to. Then rotate the sign to match.

We've tried to use popular songs. You only need to recognize one place to be able to solve the puzzle. Yet, making puzzles that require outside knowledge from the player is always risky.

Another way to decipher the signpost is to know Antillean Creole   :-D

Aha, I never made that connection, though that explains the puzzle.

Nice Back to the Future reference!

Yeah, the makers have said that the character of Biff Tannen was based on Trump, which is pretty appropriate for a guy who bullies a 16-year-old girl on Twitter because she beat him at a contest nobody really cares about.
Indeed. You wouldn't have to have seen the President Supervillain twitter, where they take real Trump quotes and paste them into speech bubbles of the Marvel villain Red Skull?

Sorry, I think you misread my question. I was reacting to this comment you made about Brothers & Wreckers:
Quotethe puzzles were random

I know for a fact that you like history  :)
Ah, sorry about that!  :-[

Anyway, what I meant about the random puzzle was that for me,
Spoiler
I didn't know how to proceed with the rotating sign after the parrot had told the place name to the brothers but they didn't know the direction, so I just tried randomly rotating it and suddenly the characters announced that I'd solved the puzzle

I just didn't see the logic in that puzzle, and if it was meant as a joke I didn't quite get it either.

Nice Back to the Future reference!

Anyway, found a random picture of the Sydney Opera house...  8-0

To answer the questions, yes, I did model the 3D models myself in Maya, and you are free to download and print your own if you'd like.

I didn't do any sanding on them (they're pretty small, only 10 cm high) since I was afraid I'd just file off the details them, plus the 3D printer I'm using
(Creality 10s) is pretty good at fine details, though the downside is that even these small things take hours to print with those settings.

I'm not one for figurines but it might be cool to have one of my games' characters, or a ship.
If you have access to a 3D printer, I'd say go for it. For any AGSer who already make their graphics using 2D images of 3D characters,
you can just convert the 3D files to an OBJ or STL file, and as long as there aren't any gaps or holes in their geometry, they're ready to be printed!

I've been playing around with 3D printing lately, and of course the first thing I've decided to make into a printable model was Olga and Ivan.  :-D

I've uploaded the models here for anyone who want to print their own, and I'm curious if anyone else here has tried 3D printing and wanted to share any models or ideas?

Blondbraid, do you mean that you would have prefered our game to be more believable historically, less tongue in cheek?
The puzzles themselves have a logic IMO.

Our main difference was in which controls we wanted to use and how the game would feel to play, I wanted to make a flowing arcade-like game and Slasher was working on a mouse-controlled game with more puzzle elements,
but yeah, I also cared more for historical consistency in planes and locations than Slasher.

I just find McMansionhell so hilariously funny, and it's full of pictures with witty comments like this:

Night Witch: I'm so glad that Crimson managed to complete his module for this game in time and I think Blondbraid did a great job with the graphics..

Well done guys  (nod)
Thanks!

Having played all entries now, here are my thoughts:
Brothers & Wreckers by Flugeldufel & Creamy
Spoiler
This game had an interesting setup, and lovely graphics, but the puzzles were random and it was just too short for me to form any real opinion on the characters.

Jake's Very Last Journey by fernewelten
Spoiler
I'm sorry to say that I didn't like this game, but I didn't like the look of the graphics and they were an active hindrance in many of the puzzles where you had to look for hotspots that were exactly the same color as the rest of the background, and I found the puzzles random and unintuitive.

Night Witches: Women of the clouds by Slasher
I want to give some background; at first Slasher, Crimson Wizard and I worked on the same entry, but since Slasher and Crimson Wizard had too different ideas on gameplay to integrate the two Slasher wound up splitting up and making his own game instead, hence why this month has two entries with the same theme. At any rate, here are my thoughts:
Spoiler
I still think the controls are a bit odd, but in the end they worked fine. The gameplay itself is good but it's bogged down by the npc's interrupting to shout the same lines over and over again, which just disrupts the flow of the game without adding anything to it after you've already heard it the first time.

Anyway, I wound up voting for
Spoiler
Slasher, since I felt it was the game that best integrated clouds into the gameplay.

Also, when the baby gets old enough to eat real food, my parents had a great rule, that it's ok if the kid don't want to eat the full meal, but they should always taste the food before turning it down.

I can attest for this one. I've done that with my son, and he's not a picky eater and eats just about anything. And he knows that he as to taste it every single time, even if he tried yesterday and he didn't like it. Remember taste is acquired and learned. Most kids need to taste a new food for about 10 times before they actually like it. Also always give him the same you're eating. Don't make him special meals just for him. You want him to grow up and be able to eat what you eat... not just "burger and french fries".
That's true, though I'd add the caveat that small kids, having much more sensitive tastebuds, don't like bitter foods in general. I can name dozens of things I didn't like as a kid that I've started to eat when I got older, so if they consistently dislike something specific I think it can be ok to wait a few years and see if they'll appreciate it more as their taste change.

Anyway, I've also heard a handy tip for making babies sleep, white noise can be numbing to the brain (just look at all the people falling asleep on long car rides) and for some people, starting a vaccum cleaner in a baby's room have made them go to sleep faster. I'm not saying it works for everyone, but the noise can't be worse than a crying baby at any rate.
