Well, it is (orthodox) Easter this week-end, and i was way too tired from work to try anything...
Might still attempt something, cause i love the theme, but yes, sadly it isn't that likely i will be able to finish it on time :)
Even if you don't make it in time, it'd still be great to see you try!

Great atmosphere in the last screenshot, although the yellow wooden slide in the background clashes a bit with the blue tones in the area by the tree. Maybe some shadows could improve it?

Just my two cents, it still looks great.  :)

I'm sure it's a good film, I just can't stand subtitles.

That's unfortunate. There's so much worthwhile cinema out there, in languages other than English.
Yeah well. I hear that you can get used to subtitles if you watch enough with them. But as of right now, watching with subtitles for me, is like having a kid constantly kick the back of your seat during the entire film. I'll only tolerate them if I really want to watch the film, and even then the film kinda gets ruined for me.
But personally I think it's more unfortunate the amount of books, comics, games, and movies other people will never experience, either because of preconceived notions or because they were never translated. I could give a huge list of brilliant stuff, ranging from Japanese Boardgame videogames, to B-horror movies.
You should definitively try to learn to get used to texted movies, because I promise it'll be worth it. I've never heard of anyone learning to watch subtitled movies ever wanting to go back to watching dubbed versions, and for a good reason.
In Sweden there is no dubbed movies for adults, only movies aimed at kids too young to be expected to read well get dubbed, and the suggestion of dubbing a movie for adults would be treated as condescending, like they'd think swedes are too dumb to read. But the upside of this is that pretty much all Swedes under 60 will learn English at a much faster rate thanks to all English movies and TV-shows that get imported, and I myself was able to read Poe and Lovecraft in their original language by high school largely thanks to all the English-speaking media I consumed, plus you get good practice in reading. At least to me, I don't see why reading subtitles in movies are any worse than reading the text in your average AGS game.

So as a Swede, I feel genuinely sorry for all the people that never get to learn to read subtitles while still young, all due to the idiotic practice of dubbing everything, not just because they miss out so much of the nuance and original acting of the dubbed movies, but also because of all movies they'll miss out on because subtitles are much easier and affordable than dubbing, and therefore most movies will only get subtitles. I think you can compare it to learning how to swim, sure it can be hard at first, and getting water in your nose is annoying, but once you have learned it, there is just so many good things and great experiences that can come from it and you'll never regret it.
QuoteAlso it's been a long time since I last watched Pan's Labyrinth, so correct me if I'm wrong here. But based on my vague recollection, it was implied that the monsters and such were just in her head. Because they never actually interacted with the real world. Which I didn't like. I wanted to see everyone get killed at the end because I thought they all deserved it.
In that case, I'd definitively recommend The Devil's backbone, also a Spanish movie by Del Toro. It's a fantastic movie also set in the Spanish Civil war, and not to spoil anything, but I will say justice is well served at the end of the movie, and the supernatural entities do get to play an important role in it.

If there is one silver lining to this tragedy, at least the 180.000 bees living in the beehives on top of Notre Dame survived the fire.

For programming, the thing that works best for me is to use my laptop with wifi off and my tv on with a sitcom or something else that I don't care if I actually watch or not.

For anything else, it always seems to be trial and error...
I usually have a podcast or lengthy YouTube video on when I'm drawing, because I feel it helps me keep my brain occupied enough to work properly, but I've noticed that it only works when I'm either drawing or doing tasks that don't require language, because I cant get any writing or coding done right whilst also listening to someone else's words.

I second Mandle on What We Do In The Shadows, it's an all around great and fun movie!

Recently a lot of good horror movies come from Spain, it's impressive.
I either had the worlds best or the worlds worst Spanish teacher, because said teacher let the class watch a bunch of Spanish movies during lessons as opposed to studying grammar,
and I especially liked Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro, which juxtaposed the supernatural monsters with the real horror of fascism to great effect. I'd just recommend the works of
del Toro in general, because he's also made other solid horror movies like The devil's backbone and Crimson Peak, the latter I especially recommend to anyone who like Gothic horror.

Is it related to Captain Downes and the Pirate Princess, Blondbraid?
_
I wouldn't say directly related, it's not a sequel and it's not a story about him, but Roderick will get a small cameo and he has left his mark on the island once Audrey visits it!

I'll be following this one. How many rooms do you think it will have? I've had a game about conquistadors and treasure swirling around in my mind for a while, so the setting of your game is right up my alley.
That's great to hear! My last non-MAGS project had about 50 rooms, and I'm aiming for something similar in scope here.
This game will have more focus on pirates than conquistadors, but Roderick Downes will make a small cameo!

Is Red Devil Dirk and/or his treasure based on any existing story of a person/treasure?
Well, he isn't based on any one real-life pirate captain, but I took a lot of inspiration from several different persons. The most famous example of a pirate rumored to have hidden treasures is William Kidd and the mystery of Oak Island, some other sources of inspiration were Henry Avery (and yes, I have  played Uncharted 4), "Calico" Jack Rackham , not one but two men nicknamed "Barbarossa" (and they were brothers no less) and Blackbeard. Especially with Blackbeard I took a lot of inspiration when designing the flag of Red Devil Dirk;

My backstory for his name is that as a Scotsman named Dirk, he came to pick the dagger sharing his name as a symbol and signature weapon, but he was also a man of fierce temper and it was known that once he started fighting he would not stop until he was the last man standing. During on particularly intense battle, the rival captain allegedly said that Dirk fought like a man powered by the devil himself and screamed at his men to "Kill the red-headed devil", and thus the nickname "Red Devil Dirk" was coined.

Sounds fun! How far along is the game?
Not very far in terms of the game itself being built, but I have most of the story and some of the gameplay mapped out.

Looks so awesome that I want to play NOW!!
Thank you, I'm glad to have caught your attention, and I hope I can hold it until I'm ready to release the game!

When her boyfriend asked her to join him on a trip to a remote tropical island, Audrey was glad to join him. It seemed like a great deal at the time,
whilst her boyfriend would seek inspiration for his upcoming book on pirates Audrey wold be free to enjoy some relaxation on the local beaches.
But when her boyfriend inexplicably disappears, Audrey is forced to take matters into her own hands and soon realize that in order to find him,
she will have to investigate the legends of a treasure hidden on the island and solve the riddle of the great pirate captain known as Red Devil Dirk.

Audrey Carter and the treasure of Red Devil Dirk is meant to be an adventure game centered on exploration, not only of the surroundings but also the history of the island where the story takes place, a former pirate colony turned into into a struggling tourist trap mainly inspired by my journey to Mexico several years ago. My vision for this game is to create a completely fictional island with a history just as rich and nuanced as one would expect of a real historical place and exploriong the lore and history of it all the way from the first natives setting foot on the island, to the pirates making it their own and clashing with colonial powers, to the contemporary times of the protagonist and her struggle to find out the truth behind the tall tales and legends, but also a story about a strong and willful man hiding away a treasure beyond measure and disappearing along with it, the titular Red Devil Dirk himself.

Has anyone else seen the horrible news?
Notre Dame is on fire, and is badly damaged too! I'm still struggling to take this in, that this building, which has withstood centuries, several wars and has been saved by Victor Hugo himself, has fallen victim to this.

And I never got the chance to see it in person before all this happened.  :~(

I don't know what most of these events are by just picture description (except the dinos), are eras limited to just those also?

Probably won't submit, but I usually check the themes just in case

Quote from: Blondbraid on Thu 04/04/2019 17:44:21The Snyder films are pretty bad, but Wonder Woman was great and Aquaman is proabably one of the best superhero movies I've ever seen. Seriously, Aquaman is definitively something you should watch.

I haven't seen either, but I watched some small part from Wonder Woman, and a video made by critic who complained about the ending that ruined everything in his opinion. I could not tell whether he was right or wrong in regards to the movie in particular since haven't seen full movie, but found his point very interesting. He was saying that WW's concept was that she believed human nature is good and that it is some external entity (Ares?) forces them to war. Later she had a moment of realization that this may not be true. But then they turn things upside down again and reveal actual Ares whom she fights in a final battle.

This kind of "fighting evil with fists" is perpetually annoying me in movies, because it makes the concept of evil very shallow. Make the "devil" a physical being and let heroes beat him up, that is so much simplier than solving morale dilemmas.
Maybe this is why I noted recent film "VVitch", where the devil does not confront people physically but affects mentally without showing himself, which is not very common thing in american films as far as I noticed.
Yeah, I'm not going to deny that there was a pretty generic big CGI boss battle at the end of the Wonder Woman movie, and that her ending the war by killing the god of war kind of undermined the message of the movie as a whole, but if you can look past a somewhat weak ending, the rest of the movie is great. Gal Gadot does a great job in the lead role and it's great fun to see a heroine from another world explore our regular world but without coming across as stupid, and it's just so refreshing to see a genuinely empathetic protagonist in a blockbuster Hollywood movie, who likes children, feels sorry for the wounded and tries to see the best in all people, and the supporting cast and visuals are equally good.

But I guess Wonder Woman also matters to me as a woman, since as I mentioned before, good war-movies with female leads who are allowed to be heroic without constantly being threatened by gendered trauma (or women being omitted altogether) are rare and hard to come by, and WW is set in WW1, a rather unique setting for a superhero film. Wonder Woman is also the first female superhero to get her own movie in decades, the last movie featuring a female superhero before that was Halle Berry's Catwoman, which was bad enough to earn her a Razzie award. So at least to me, WW felt like a breath of fresh air and it was great to finally see a female superhero who was able to be the hero of her own story on the same terms as any male actionhero.

But even if that part doesn't matter to you, Wonder woman is still worth watching for the strong cast, good action and bold choice of the WW1 setting I mentioned before, because it was fun to watch and I can't think of any other superhero movie like it, and despite stumbling on the finishing line with the message the movie still did a good job with contrasting the idyllic life on the Amazon island with both the good parts and the bad in the human world.
