Ã, Heh, maybe this thread will turn into a "Post some music here" thread at some point.

Why don't we do it?
I'll post some of my music as soon as I upload them.

Hrm, I seem to be having a problem loading up the game from a saved file. It is RestoreGameDialog(); right?

I'm using that, doesn't load. It shows Global Message #983 the message is default and it says,"Sorry, not now."

Maybe your game is changed in meantime and engine can't load the old game with new preferencies.

I have tried that but after the animation the character is placed back on the floor... I wan't him to be transfered to the walkable area on the chair and then stay there till he "uses" chair again.

Then make second animation start on chair.

This has been happening quite a lot lately.Ã,  The Underdogs database must be getting slammed, because it sometimes craps out and the RON site suffers as a result.

The game links are still working fine, though.Ã,  If you are looking for any particular game, let me know and I'll giev you the link.

-Dave

Thanks

I downloaded first two games, it would be nice if you could send me download link of the third, but I don't know it's title.

General Discussion / What's with RON's site
Mon 11/10/2004 18:50:51
I've been trying to acces RON's site for days:

http://ron.the-underdogs.org/index.php

And all I get with most of the links is:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /usr/home/ron.theunderdogs.org/index.php on line 34
Could not connect : Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

Does anyone know what's going on?

Come on people!
Seems too many of you took the title too seriously and said "Goodbye"!
Pull yourself out of your autumn depressions and start drawing! Remember that dark feelings are the best friend of an artist. Unless you like drawing unicorns, rainbows and happy, happy people. I don't, so perhaps I'm being subjective.
But then again, I can't really help it.Ã,  :-\

P.S. Don't reply to this unless your reply contains an entry!!!

That Neutron's entry scared the hell out of everyone!
P.S. Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Advice? Yes! Read manual.
How do you mean " I have a bunch of charaters, but I can't seem to change them into .cha files". If they are not in .cha format, they are not characters. Import images sprite by sprite and you will get them.
And again.... read the manual!

If you want your game to look more like somethign you made, just use paint. My first game was simple. I drew a detailed room on paint and saved it as room1.bmp in my ags file. When you looked at a drawer you found a key, which you used to get out of the room. From there you explored all of the rooms, talked to people, and uncovered a plot to turn the world into zombie slaves. One of the objects was a sword, and my game had a loose combat system.

One of the better parts was how you collected gold coins and traded them in for new weapons and vehicles. It wasnt a graphical masterpiece, but it was really fun to play.

AGS want meant to be made with downloaded backgrounds
Did you, by any chance, created the game called "Escape from zombie city"?

I was just wondering if anybody has played the game 'The Worm'. It has no votes or reviews, no screenshot and the link seems to be broken but I am really intrigued by the information given and really wanna play it. Can anyone point me towards a working link or if not, just tell me what the game is like?

Yes, I have it somewhere. I'll try to find it.
It's great game, very addictive. Strangely, it's only 19 Kb hard and plays with only one button (space), and nevertheless better than many 3 CD games.
You play as worm that is going trough the dungeon, skipping obstacles and so...
It's shouldn't be hard to get, look for abandonware sites (if I don't find mine).

Boris, can you post the whole of your script that you are using for making the GUI follow the mouse? Ar you sure that the blank GUi is actually following the mouse?

Yes, I am very sure. As I mentioned earlier, I can make it work by setting mouseover actions on hotspots and by:

string my_buffer;

GetLocationName(mouse.x, mouse.y, my_buffer);
SetLabelText(GUI, LABEL, my_buffer);

so, I don't really need that @OVERHOTSPOT@ any more. Anyway, here is my script (on repedately execute,  off course):

  if (mouse.y<280)
       SetGUIPosition(1,mouse.x-75,mouse.y+10);
       else
       SetGUIPosition(1,mouse.x-75,mouse.y-25);

(This if ...else thing is to avoid error when GUI is out of range).

You don't really need to bother as far as I am concerned (though it would be nice to know what's going on).

Pooping again, Poop?

I have a scene in which there is a branch overhanging a gorge with a sheep stuck in it. The puzzle is tying a rope to the branch and hooking it around the sheep, then pulling it up. What is the simplest way to make this puzzle? Preferably without scripting.

It doesn't need lots of scripting, but some animations would be nice (tying a rope, hooking, pulling). For each action make an animation and use it when player performs it. It's all in the manual.
I must warn you that it could be tricky if it's your first game!

i dont think so. I've always found hippies funnier than rednecks. Besides, redneck games have been done before. DG would be the first person to exploit hippies in an adventure game.

You just don't get it, eh?
What do you want me, to draw it all for you?

The Rumpus Room / Re: How did you find AGS?

I found it on underdogs. I saw Garfield and red that it was created with AGS. I downloaded it (not Garfield, AGS).

Dg, i have a great idea for a game. You can make a game where this guy keeps running into these darn hippies. Ill leave the rest up to you. I think you should release your game anyway. Even if its not totally finished, id love to see it. But I'm not sure if the hippies would fin dit politically correct. ha

Or you can change hippies with rednecks.
How about it poop?

Yeah I think I messed up the light but I acidently saved this one ove my previous .PSD so now I cant edit it. :\

So I think i'll use this one in the game anyways.

I don't know what you did to get that impression of lights, but there are real lights in Photoshop (filter>reder>lighting efects) that would look better.
I would also suggest a little thiner lines.
