I am totaly anti-walking/or not dead man scenarios. I just don't get the point in trying to solve something for days and finding out (in walktroughs mostly) that I'm stuck. Points for Rui and Quantum!

I bet you have the GUI so the mouse is on top of it, ie GUI at mouse.x mouse.y. Make it a few pixels away so the mouse is over the hotspots, not on the GUI

No, it isn't. It is distant enough.

I gues I need some more of that @OVERYOU@ helpÃ,  ;)

Yeah, or uncheck the GUI's "Clickable" checkbox.

Nope,Ã,  didn't do the trick.

I guess I have to use hotspot actions. Strange, but I just can't get @OVERHOTSPOT@ working.

I'm stuck in the dungeon.Found crack on wall but it's too dark in there and cannot react with it.Please help

Spoiler

How do you mean you can't react with it? You should interact (use claw cursor) on it and get the potion.

by "name property of hotspots" do you mean a user-defined property that you have set up with the property schema editor, or simply the hotspot name that you fill in on the room editor areas page?

I mean hotspot name in room editor. So, it should work?
Thanks for reply, I will use your script, but I am still puzzled why @overhotspot@ doesn't work!

I have blank GUI with label wich text property is set to "@OVERHOTSPOT@". It is moving with mouse cursor. As I understood in manual,  it should show name property of hotspots on stage while cursor is over them. But it doesn't.

I can do it other way: set on mouse over with every hotspot and change label text, but there is number of hotspots and much more work.

(using 2.61 on XP)

What?

But there are ways to design a game to implicitly avoid these. For example, if a player needs a soccer ball found in Antarctica before he can proceed later in the game, in India, then either (1) have the player possess the ability to return to Antarctica to get the soccer ball if he missed it the first time, or (2) don't let him finish up in Antarctica before having the soccer ball. I had been designing By the Sword to avoid all walking deads, by one of the two methods above.

Well, there is a third way that may not be the best, but it is the easiest: let the character get soccer ball autometicaly before going to India.

Are you thinking about changing that GUI's? I don't think they fit there!

Any tips on how to remove the pixelly look?

The best (and only really functional way) would be to import image into some of the vector drawing programs (corel draw, freehand, Ã, ilustrator, flash), and then draw it again.
What is the original form of your image (is it scaned or made entirely in photoshop)?

Mmmm, I don't see that as a great idea at all ...

Besides guessing is not acceptable in an adventure game.
Well, it is close to waht you've done!

well, it is fully transparent (except for label), I don't know how would it distract player if he doesn't see it. There is just one problem that I encountered, but I solved it already: once user moves cursor to bottom of screen, there is an error message- I just put status above the cursor if it is close to bottom.
Thanks for all replies!

Make a song, at least one minute long, which is classical themed and sounds fun.

By "classical themed", do you mean with orchestrations and such?
By "sounds fun" do you mean cheerfull atmosphere?

Thanks

Oh, my God! Please don't spank me! I know how to do all that: all I wanted to know is what do you suggest (AKA how's it ussualy done) if it's better to hide GUI's or set  blank variable if there is no object/hotspot.
