You can't anti-alias a normal sprite, as it will show up with a transparency "halo" when imported to the ags.

you can if its a 32-bit game since it has an 8 bit alpha channel

I think it was probably Babar who rated my game.

QuoteNormally you'd want to bring the axe up and swing in a chopping motion, but to simulate the effect you wanted (a horizontal rather than vertical swing) I made a quick and dirty edit.

He said he wanted a swing to the side like chopping a tree so I accommodated.  Note that I also said a vertical chopping motion would be better.  Please read.

I agree with CW, in your animation the character keeps their right hand near to the head of the axe and rotates the axe around its centre point which would be a terrible way to swing an axe. Also the shaft of the axe would pass straight through her body the way you have it.. its too long to move like that.

Works of fiction cannot be considered slander. Have you guys never seen South Park?  :P

If the pictures are creative commons and it is a work of fiction then I really see no legal problem with that.

i think the purpose of the panel was to eliminate the risk of people artificially inflating their games status on the games page.

It would be fairly easy to rack up the download count and vote a couple of times.

I support the panel in principle and i even think they should stand by their rating of McCarthy if they feel it to be justified. Although i agree with Snarky in that a 2 cup rating is a "not recommended" sticker, if that's what the panel deems the game to be worth then they should stick by it.

I mean 2 cups is not *that* bad. it just means "a reasonable game, worth a try" and i would interpret that as "some of you will like and some of you wont" in a kind of 50-50 ratio and that seems to be supported by the games database since most 2 cup games have a player rating of around 50ish%

and that's not bad for a first try really is it?

Calin, how far are you into the development of number 2? any teasers for us?

Not far enough to show you anything interesting.  :=

I probably wont even have a development thread for this one since its just an extension of a series. I do have lots of things planned for this one though :p it's going to be epic.

..and worth at least 3 cups

I'll admit the rating irked me a wee bit when i first saw it but then i became philosophical about it.

The puzzles are a very important part of the game since it is a 'game' and not a 'movie'. So if you are rating it in terms of its quality as a 'game' then 2 cups is probably a fair assessment. However if you were to rate it in term of an 'experience' then i would say 2 cups is a little low since players clearly liked the immersive aspects.

Also it means I can only get better since i doubt they would rate episode 2 as 1 cup unless i really fuck up.

I did have a look at what generally passes for a 2 cup game but its very difficult to be objective after developing a game so intensively for a couple of weeks so im not really sure where it stands.

Overall I remain positive I can improve on the errors made in epi 1.

One last bit of advice. We're throwing a whole bunch of what we consider "improvements" at you - take it all with a grain of salt. What you did the first time worked very well; don't let us push you around. If you think something's a good idea, do it; if you don't, don't - even if someone says you should.

Your ideas have served you well so far. Don't try to please everyone against your better judgment - you'll end up pleasing no one.

The game was rated 2 cups by the AGS panel.  ;) The formula clearly needs improvement in alot of places.   ;D

Where is Haddas?

Who won, kiddo?

yeah i had the same issue with my laptop so i added a gamma slider. Also turning the noise effect down helps alot.
#3112
Fine :p I read Vince12's excellent article on adventure game interfaces and it leads me to conclude that a 2 button interface is really the only sensible choice

If there were demonstrable, statistical data which somehow defined race then, yes you could make generalised comments. However that is not the case beyond trivial things (for example, black men on average do infact have bigger penises)

However even if it were the case that race was somehow an indicator it would still be wrong to discriminate against those people since it was a generalisation.

Thus I can say that, on average, Americans are more superstitious and less scientifically educated than much of Europe. Thats just fact. Much of Europe simply kicks your arse on education (not Britain unfortunately, we suck just as much as you do). However it would be wrong of me to deny a scientific job to someone based on the fact they were American, since it would be both illegal and stupid to assume that single American was any more or less ignorant than the population at large.

Generally its conjunctions (but, while, and, etc) and articles (the, a) that are not capitalised.

the preposition 'of' is also often not capitalised but most prepositions are.

Edit: for your perusal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_case#Headings_and_publication_titles

Edit2: Also i noticed someone said 'dysfunctional' was using the prefix 'dys' as a negation.

This is not true. 'Dys' means 'bad' and not 'not' and is the opposite of 'Eu'

so dysphonious, dysphemism, dystopia.

ya, i think the verb coin may go the way of the dinosaurs for epi 2. It doesnt seem very popular.

I knew someone would take that stance so allow me to riposte.

Because its funny and temporary. Trolls are dealt with my moderators fairly quickly and also this particular troll was amusingly stupid, so why not take the opportunity to mock them?

I think a PERSON cant be judged by their nationality but PEOPLE can.

It would be ridiculous to say that an American is superstitious but you can say America is a superstitious country simply based on statistics. These things are not really based on nationality but on the culture of that nation. America is one of the most god fearing nations on earth. They rival the middle east in terms of adherence to religion. The only difference is that America benefits from western capitalism. You can't let god get in the way of cold hard cash.

But electorally America is hugely conservative when compared with Europe. It makes my head spin when a country like America, which is built upon possibly one of the greatest and most humanitarian documents ever written, is voting against whether or not gays should be allowed to marry. and that was in New York remember which is one of the more progressive states.

American is one of the few countries in the world to have a legislated separation of church and state and yet they still have "In God We Trust" on their currency. How is that not unconstitutional?

and don't get me wrong I love America and everything it stands for. The ideals laid out by the founding fathers are verging on perfect but they seem to have been lost a little somewhere.

Thanks, all the criticism is very welcome. I'm still trying to find my 'voice' if you like.

There are lots of things I did wrong in Episode 1 due to inexperience with the genre and the engine.

Alot of mistakes were down to "I'll fix it later" or "i'll rewrite that bit later" and then I forgot... for example McCarthy says things are "A simple affair" about 6 times :p

Hopefully I'll address those issues in Epi 2.
