I felt exactly the same way but honestly, you forget about it very quickly.

Lua was designed as a scripting language for non-coders and designers so it's designed to look less intimidating and more like English.
It would not be my first choice as a language to use but it's still miles better than AGS Script.

I've connected port 14:0 to 128:0 and aplaymidi -p 14:0 music0.mid plays midi files just fine.

I think I can argue pretty well that Lua is especially useful for adventure games. Adventure games are data driven experiences and Lua deals with data structures very well I think. Or at least better than AGS Script does.

Nope, still doesnt work.

My MIDI is working fine and when I run the game (5 Days a Stranger) in Wine the midi works fine but not if i use the native linux port.

How does the midi setup work in the linux version?
How do I tell AGS which alsa port to use? I run timidity which works fine in everything else but I can't seem to get any midi signals from AGS at all.

Two more posts to the devlog and I've decided to move it to a wordpress since it has comment support and stuff so questions can be asked and so forth:

http://www.themccarthychronicles.co.uk/devlog/

These two posts focus on the event system we're going to be using.

Let me know if I'm going too fast or I'm not explaining things well enough or whatever.

Isn't it weird how someone's religious beliefs often have significant overlap with their personal one.

(Read: They just don't like gays. It's nothing to do with religion)

It seems that loadscript doesnt return an error message. Is there anyway to see if a file exists in the script store? Currently it seems impossible to tell whether loadscript failed because the file does not exist or because there was a compilation error.

If it were up to me, which it isn't (yet), I would remove the legal standing from marriage entirely. It's just none of the government's business who you call your spouse.

There would need to be a legal framework for inheritance and the like but that would be done separately and however the two people involved wanted.

On marriage being a religious institution: Originally perhaps, not anymore since it's enshrined in secular law which all people must obey regardless of religion.

Why would atheists get married?

While I don't actually agree with marriage and would not get married, this argument sort of rings the same alarm bells to me as "Why don't you just go and kill and rape people if there's no god?".

The reason atheists get married is really exactly the same reason theists get married. Because they want to make some kind of lasting commitment to one another.

(Although in reality I think its more likely that they do it because of societal pressures but there we go.)

So you didn't read one paragraph down or follow the link with further details, then? It seems pretty clear that none of those examples were understood as (or legally recognized as) marriages in their own societies.

That's true in some cases (most notably the romans) but not true in others. In fact, the only examples given in your source that mentions a lack of legal status are the romans and greeks.

The concept of marriage between two people of the same sex is a modern invention, not found in any culture anywhere in the world or in history.

This is bullshit. Native Americans have been performing same sex marriages for a long time. Plus ancient Rome and ancient Greece.

The gay marriage thing is something of a moot point at this stage. The tide has well and truly turned and it's just a matter of time at this stage. Even in the theocratic US support for gay marriage is above 50%. I think the fight is more or less won.

If you post what you have then maybe we can assist you in a collaborative way.

No need to shoulder the entire burden yourself.

If i may:

In hindsight it was a mistake to try and prescribe some kind of hierarchy by popular vote. These kinds of things work best as a "do-ocracy" and I think the current system that has arisen organically is probably the best we could've hoped for.

So don't feel bad, everything worked out very well with very capable people in charge.

I've started a devlog, chronicling my progress in rebooting the McCarthy series. I'm going to write about challenges of making an adventure game in AGS using the Lua plugin. I'm going to mostly stick with technical stuff and how to structure a game in Lua rather than design but i'm sure some of that will seep in too.

Is your branch open to the public? Are your changes suitable to be merged into the main branch for other users?

A think a new splash screen would be a good symbolic step forward.
