The Phoenix Wright games are incredible.  I'd find myself running crime scene scenarios in my head to try to figure out what would and wouldn't work with the evidence presented.  The presentation of the game didn't matter in the least to me, slideshow or not.  As for linearity, sure... but that doesn't hurt the first playthrough.

I also love Hotel Dusk.  The character dialogue was some of the best I've seen in a video game.  While it truly does play more like an interactive novel than a video game, the novel was definitely good enough to warrant continued play... and though few the puzzles were, most of them were well executed.

Trace Memory was a blast to play as well.  The story elements, as mentioned, were not up to par with Hotel Dusk, but it shined in the "puzzles" department even though there were several that came across as clumsy.  I refer to pretty much anything that required the use of the stylus in order to "throw" an object.

Touch Detective... did not thrill me.  It has its merits, but I found them to be seriously outweighed by the very sketchy puzzles, most of which required that you wander around talking yourself blue.  You may rightly wonder how I could love Hotel Dusk if I hated Touch Detective for that particular reason, and the reason is that Hotel Dusk did it successfully.  Hotel Dusk was a game that was built around the concept... Touch Detective pretended to be a graphic adventure, but used that technique excessively within its own formula.  And the graphics, while colorful and fun, were largely cheap.  The pre-rendered characters had the lo-poly look (not really forgiveable for prerenders) and were minimally animated.  That being said, my wife loved it.

joel, while in edit mode in blender, have the "edit" context active and look for a button that says, "draw normals" and make sure it's activated.  This should cause blue lines to appear on the faces of the object that you're editing.  You need to make sure that those blue lines are all radiating in the same direction off of your walls, and that they are radiating inward toward the scene.

I was showing MI3 to a younger friend of mine who had never been introduced to adventure games, and that gave me the itch to play through Grim Fandango again, and by the time I got to the end, I had decided that I was going to make my own adventure game or go nuts.  I wracked my brain for a puzzle scenario and started thinking about characters.  The wheel stopped on "robot."  From there, I started developing a premise.

It then occurred to me that I'm not a programmer.

I knew that there were some clever folk out there hacking SCUMM, but after some Google work it became apparent that this wasn't for me.

Some last-ditch, desperate Googling finally led me to AGS.

I'm not sure where it's getting the singular opening brace.  I can only guess that it's from someplace before in your script.

As for that code, you should change Character[Engel] to cEngel, so that it now says:

cEngel.Say("You already have the bandana!");

Perhaps AGS thinks you have a variable called "[" because you mistakenly used that type of notation (which is used for arrays, not class instances) beforehand.

How can there be a "trick" to an animation competition?  The point is to be creative and make a good production, not to stumble onto something out of luck.

Gosh... what's the point of starting an argument if you've just had one with yourself?Ã,  I think you're safe.

Rushing your ideas out of your head past your hands so quickly will not do them any service. Ã, I'm sorry... that's just how it is.

Elric, that was an excellent formal critique.  I'm impressed with your knowlege of design.

However, you should keep in mind that this is a functional piece.  It's a representation of someone's home; therefore, it's a representation of someone's mind.  An old Chinese hermit may well have a deep longing for such symmetry.  The odd spot of red is certainly a design problem in terms of keeping the background in the background, but this will probably be settled by the contents of the bookcase and the table.

In terms of focal point, that's going to be the player character, rain or shine.

I suppose it depends on the person, because I found the opposite to be true of myself.

My studies in art were great for fine-tuning technique and learning the basics of various media, but all of my great "Eureka" moments came while I was experimenting on my own or lost in thought attempting to solve a problem.

This is just a heads-up:  I have a laptop with DivX only, and the video plays back very poorly from AGS on that computer.  It plays just fine in Media Player, but the colors are drawn incorrectly from AGS itself.  I'm not sure if DivX is the problem there, just thought it was worth mentioning.

I've actually had people who definitely have XviD running into video errors.  I have no idea what's up with that.
