We're two months behind on the pick of the month!
Has the output been too slow of late to get enough decent candidates?
Or have we just not had time to update!

Has snail quest been picked yet?
#122
I guess I'll have to try envagle myself into the clique...
#123
Why? What happened to Scid?!?! Did I miss something big?
#124
I once looked at the forums, and there were rules like "please don't come here to plug your game! We already have enough to write about" or something.

I think you must have to know someone who knows someone...

As such, if anyone here knows anyone at the Underdogs, please could you plug my game at them as I'm a really REALLY nice guy!

No hard feelings remco. I'm not THAT regular on the forums, so am not THAT familiar with most of the newer people around here!

As for all the lovely comment, thankyou everyone who made them!

I guess I can understand that this is too much to ask from most people, so I think I'll start asking around people I know in Derby, and see if anyone like that can lend me a hand. It's easier to keep in contact with people if you know where they live I feel...

OR I guess I could end up drawing it all myself... I suppose I'll have to leave you on tenterhooks until I've got a solution...

Thank you anyway everyone!

General Discussion / ARTIST NEEDED

Hello, I realise this thread might be in the wrong place, but I guess the moderators will move it where it needs to be.

I'm working on a project that's very very close to my heart.

It's basically going to be an isometric adventure game with a stripped down inventory system, and some RPG elements dropped in for good measure. It will be a sequel to the text adventure game "The Golden Wombat Of Destiny" and will share many of the locations and themes from that game (easy to find on the internet - and fun to play if you want to have a go)

It is important to me that this game LOOKS good, and as such I need an artist!

I know it's demanding, but I'd really like just one person to take on all the backgrounds and characters, because I think that the smaller the team, the easier it is to get it to work.

There's no enormous rush on this project, and it'll probably take a while because I want it to be quite big, so a certain degree of faith and desire to work is envolved.

ALSO: the workload will obviously be biggest at the start of the project, in order to get player character animations and GUI art out of the way. I'm letting you know this just so that people aren't put off by there being LOADS to do at the start, because it won't be that way for the whole thing.

I've had good experiences of working with Squinky on Vegetable Patch Extreem Turbo 2, which I mention to assure you there's no need to worry that *I* might not have the dedication to carry it through.

The look is very much open to your enterpretation. I have some pics that Squinky knocked up before getting pregnant if you want a starting point, but as long as it's brooding and looks GOOD, I'm happy for the artist to make the look of the game just the way they want it.

Someone in the UK might be useful, as I had great difficulty explaining to U.S.A squinky what a chav/charver was. He kept thinking I meant someone who had some sort of street cred...

PLEASE help me!

No hard feelings!
I'll start canvassing for a new artists...
Maybe when you get back we can do a Richard Longhurst sequil, to make up for the bad luck the current project's been it by...

At least I got my avatar in before your baby arrived! Result!

whatever happened to the Larry Vales smilie?

We could have them ALL Larry Vales smilies...
#129
Oh the underdogs... I have NO idea how to get listed on that site. It's like when Dana International (the Eurovision song contest transexual) tried to break America. It didn't matter how much of herself she put out there, it just wouldn't stick...

I think they're more to do with abandonware, not freeware aren't they?
#130
No, seriously! Rob blanc is in Larry Vales 1 (on the t-shirt of the side kick guy who's name I forget) and then in the second one, the same guy is wearing a Richard Longhurst t-shirt. I SWEAR it!

I remember because I said to Phil: "Hey! Can I book an ad slot on the t-shirt of that character in LV2?"

and he said "no"

So I had to... bribe him...

Both Rob Blanc and Richard Longhurst make cameo appearances in Larry Vales games.

for the colourblind (and I actually DID think to myself while making the prize that I really shouldn't make a game that discriminates against this group of people)

The PINK items are:
the cows
the chairs
and the bicicles

the BLUE items are:
the wizardly hats
the tamborines
and the vases-with-flowers

and the YELLOW items are:
The turnips
The pens
and the light bulbs.

I hope this is of some small help (not least, perhaps, in identifying what my drawings are meant to be!)
#133
there is a prize... I don't know why you can't download it though... ALSO, I wouldn't have expected it to be particularly seizure enducing though!!!

will look into this.
#134
I've not ignored it, but because I've aparently (according to you) not read the book I don't feel in a position to pass useful comment on it.
Since I'm clearly a jibbering idiot with no knowlage of the subject, I can't imagine why you'd want me to respond to whatever argument you're alluding to.

Colossal & Rode: he he he
#136
Oh migs. With your cunning de-construction of my comments, you've made me seem so stupid. I apologise completly, and take back everything I said, 100%
American McGee's take on the story is not derivative, OR based on a lack of understnading of the books which I now realise (after you helped me see the truth) I've never read, especially not studied the history of, and CERTAINLY not lived in a house named after an aspect of one of the poems contained within.
ALSO: I now see that "opium fuled" doesn't imply any idea that it was written under the influence of drugs, and I've never heard of ANYONE trying to make out it's a gothic pair of books before in my whole life.
You are a wonderful and brilliant person and I'd just LOVE to be as perceptive and clever as you are. It must be simply brilliant to have everything so clear to you, not to mention to always be right all the time!
#137
Rode, does this mean I've cured you of your continuous seizures?!?! If you only flipped out 3 times while looking at my page, you should look at it all the time! I bet those three you snuck in were just when you looked at the full colour screen shots right?
Keep your eyes on the soothing background... let the vegetables calm you...

It's an impressive game from a visual perspective. But I was constantly irritated by a deep lack of understanding of the books that was displayed.

Mind you, it's fasionable to mis-understnad the books these days. The idea of it being "opium fuled" and nightmarish is enormously over-interpreting. They're amazingly weird books, but they weren't written under the influence of any drugs, and they're not particularly dark really.

People are always trying to make Alice in Wonderland somehow dark and gothic when it's not.

Mind you, the game doesn't take away the books, and it's not like anyone will re-write the novels to match the game or anything. So I guess it doesn't matter that an American (who must be pretty damn amazing to have his name put in the game's title! even the Mario chap hasn't done that yet!) didn't "get" it. And it's not a bad game by any streatch of the imagination...

I guess I'm just a little precious about the books (which are quite brilliant in their simple charm) and get cross when people want to capitalise on a general mis-understanding of them...

Now the moomins: They WERE scary and gothic!
#139
that sounds fascinating!!! If you e-mail me the plug-in (or point me to a link) I'd love to play around with it, and see if I can get it to work!

It does sound HORRIBLY complicated though!   ;D :D

the way to win an AGS award is to make a game that has AGS forum members as characters in it... Don't bother with putting any great thought into how the game will really work in particular. As long as it has an extended intro with hilarious references to the MITTENS gang, you're on a winner!

Not that I'm bitter.  ;)
