Oh yes, well that's obviously... er... so obvious really that I can't bring myself to say it.

So... Mandle was right, more or less... but then he thought I was right when I was wrong... so... where does this leave us??!?  :P

No, this game is part of a series.

One of the Blackwell games?

A lot of these sort of posts tend to be made by people who just registered, or have no proof of their abilities.

Ah, I see... should have realised that's what you were targeting.  I think sometimes it's more that people don't actually understand just how much work and talent goes into making a good game than deliberately "taking advantage" (although not always), but I see your point.

Ah I see (I cheated so I'm not going to say the name) - I didn't recognise the Speccy screenshots but I do remember playing the demo of this game on the ST.

Yup don't really disagree with any of that.  Some of the crowd-funding campaign pages you see are laughably bad.

It seems that you're talking about an individual who gathers people to do his / her bidding instead of someone who forms a genuine team.  If that's the case then I agree with you.  However most indie game teams are formed to pool various talents - if one person can do a good job at every single element of creating a game, they often go ahead and do it as a solo dev.  Not many people can do that.

That bothers me too! I think if you're going to make an indie game you either need to be the artist or programmer yourself. If you're not one of those then you best have the funds.

My programming and artistic skills are pathetic, I concentrate on the bits I can actually be good at ie story, game design, voice acting, have also become handy at SFX.  What you say only applies if you are determined to be a solo dev.  Different skill sets are what teams are for!

Although... after reading CaesarCub's post maybe you're talking about something different altogether, someone who kind of dumps a very basic concept on you as if that was "designing" a game, which it clearly isn't.

This is in readiness for the game's release, we're currently finishing up RC1. Hope the testers don't find too many bugs!!

If you're a GameJolt user, following the game there is a nice way to get the latest news about the project.

(It's currently labelled as "Devlog" status in line with GameJolt's new categories.)

Many thanks to Katschey for the awesome header image!

Treasure Island?

I was going to guess that but remembered the background to everywhere being yellow (being sand and all) - will be disappointed with myself for convincing myself it wasn't if you turn out to be right!

Hints & Tips / Re: The Journey of Iesir

You don't need to go into the mine to scare the doctor.
Spoiler
In dialogues with the Barkeep he will talk about the doctor going into "The Zone" - I can't remember if this is when he has another beer, it probably is - he will start to mutter things describing the monster in his dreams.  Also, it's not a picture, but a doll - remember those little dolls in the back room of Daniel's shack?  He will make you a bespoke doll (it's in a dialogue with him but easy to forget when you get into the rest of the game) - go back and ask Daniel, you choose the materials he makes it from which should be done to match the doctor's description.  Daniel's shack is the location where you start the game, talking to the big viking.

Hope this helps!

Er... hm... looks like Speccy graphics to me
It did to me too, but there's way too many colours there.
It looks more EGA to me, but even then it looks as though it has too many colours. :-\

And seeing the latest screenshot. Yep, I've never seen that game before in my life. Unless it's a port or something.

Yeah I should have enlarged it, didn't realise there were so many shades of green in there!

Having seen the other screenshot I have absolutely no idea.

Simply gorgeous! I wish I could make art as beautiful as this :)

Who did the art?

That was Dan (Daniel Thomas).  I think he said the backgrounds took on average 20-40 hours depending on the size.  He's an incredible artist.
