She's also an animator and music composer on the project, so we're skipping together, yay! :-D

Wow you've really struck gold there!

To get back on topic though... this game looks awesome so far.

can't wait to skip domestic chores tomorrow and head straight to the office to start animating :)

I hope your missus doesn't scan your activity on these boards... :X

Looking good, would lose most of the just walking around right at the start unless you're going to have logos fade in and out over it.  Also cut out a couple of the Look responses when you turn it into a proper demo to make it slightly more zippy.  (I know, you've probably already thought of that, but you did utter the fateful words "What do you think?", so it's your own fault. ;)

It might not be intentional, but I LOVED the way the cat pushed the player character by walking into him!!!

Great!  Thanks especially for posting the download mirror, I tried last night and failed to get it to download.

[EDIT] - whoa there... 3Gb download! 8-)

I've done a post on IndieGameNews.com - I hope it sends a few more voters your way.  If ever a game deserved to be Greenlit, it's this one!

Challenging puzzles = posts in the Hints & Tips forum = free publicity! :-D

Puzzle difficulty is always such a hard thing to gauge - what's easy for one person is tough for another and vice-versa.

One other option - though it would delay your release date - may be to consider implementing an in-game hint system of some kind.

C64 version of Gauntlet perhaps?

I guess I should really do another update post on this...

We've been working hard behind the scenes and Act III is really coming together nicely, and only a handful of remaining art and music assets remain to be delivered.  We have made a couple of changes to puzzles earlier in the game to improve game flow, and will be looking at the introductory sequence again to add some extra gameplay elements.

Once all this is done, after the testers have broken it (damn them!) and we have fixed it again, we will be looking at existing assets that need to be upgraded.  This is partly to make the look of the whole game more consistent, and partly just to make the whole game look as good as it plays, plus rechecking the puzzle logic of the entire game to make sure there are no continuity issues.  Then I'll be adding some more SFX to it and finally the voicing needs to be added.

It's going to take some time but we're committed to making a game that we'll be proud of - if we'd decided to just do a rush job on things the game could have been out last year, but it would have been nowhere near as good.  I just hope that people will still be looking forward to the game when it is finally released!

Recent additions to the team have been Mandle (testing) and LostTrainDude (assisting with production and puzzle analysis).  I'm sure we can give them some properly impressive job titles when the time comes 8-)

Thanks to all the people who have continued to show interest in the game and encouraged us to keep going, we think that you're going to be happy with the result.  It may be released at the end of this year but I can't guarantee it - we'll release it when we're satisfied that the overall quality is high enough for us to be happy with it.

If you throw a die 5 times, what is the likelihood of getting the same number (at least) three times in a row?

Spoiler
Is this a trick question?  It would depend on the number of sides the dice had.  If we assume a 6-sided dice, the probability would be quite simple - 6^3 = 1:216.  But that's just based on getting it in 3 rolls.  But we'd had to multiply that by 3, as you could potentially start the 3x roll on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd roll. So that would make it 3:216 or 1:72.

But then you'd have to add in the probability of getting 4 in a row (twice) and 5 in a row (once).  So that would be 2:1296 + 1:7776.   Putting that all together, unless I've made a mistake, gives you an overall probability of 121:7776.

TEchnobabylon was a little different, as there were 3 small freeware games released, which strictly speaking weren't demos of the finished commercial game.

But... probably depends most on what you want to achieve.  If you want some early feedback, release it when you've got a reasonable amount of gameplay (half an hour or more roughly) and a good idea of the direction you want to take with the game, but allowing for wanting some player feedback before you finalise such plans.  If you want the demo to mainly be raising interest in the main game, probably best to wait till you have the full game finished (more or less) and release the demo no more than 3 months ahead of the full game's release.

(Or, if you're like me, release the demo in a rush of enthusiasm and then still be working on the game 3 years later... :-[ :-\ :-D )

You're right CaptainD, this thread is too good to let it die.
I propose Parasol Stars (sequel of Rainbow Islands).

You're exactly right!  (I know the character and parasol were a bit of a giveaway, but I wanted a nice easy one to start the ball rolling again..)

I've started playing this and... seriously, one person did all this?  Incredible!

Anyway, haven't got very far yet but looks very interesting.  If anyone likes archaeological mysteries and the like, please don't be put off by the download size - give it a try!

Hope no-one minds, but I've taken it upon myself to start afresh here.  So here's probably my all-time favourite platformer from the 16-bit age:

I think it might be worth contacting Cros on game jolt.

Or maybe ask on the GameJolt forums.  I can't actually think of any AGS games that have used GJ achievements, but I might simply not have played them.

Well... at least one monkey would have to named Shakespeare of course :P but I would have thought...

Spoiler
With infinite monkeys, it should take one of them 1,000,000,000 seconds (31 years and approx 8 and a half months) as theoretically at least one of them would accomplish this.

For the bonus question, I would also answer an infinite amount.  Although depending on the number of potentially different keystroke combinations available you could come up with a number (assuming 26 letters in upper or lower case, 10 numerals, 5 punctuation marks and blank space would give you 68^1,000,000,000), infinity divided by any finite number is still infinity (though it could I suppose be expressed as a theoretical number ∞/n), as ∞ cannot be quantified, I would expect it to still be ∞).

Those are my ramblings, anyway.

Deano_27 - I like the look of this and will feature it on my indie game news site when I get time.  Could you PM me some details such as estimated release date, whether you're planning a Kickstarter, etc.

Your concepts look great but I would really have liked to see some gameplay (I appreciate that you may not be quite that far along yet).  The only Crash game I remember playing is Clash of the Titans on the Wii a few years back, but it was a lot of fun.  (Unfortunately I have not been able to play the vids with the sound on yet so can't comment on music etc (if there is any at this stage!)

I like the main character design too.  Seems like it will be a face capable of showing a lot of expression!

Thanks for the answers!

MediaFire never used to be this bad but they clearly don't check their advertisers very carefully from my recent experience.

Anyway great to see it up on itch.io now, hope you get loads of downloads as it looks like you put enormous effort into this game!

http://amanta4ray.itch.io/echoes-of-the-past

I'm downloading now, look forward to playing it. ;-D

(GAH... scratch some of what I said about MediaFire, I just realised another game I was going to download was on it, and had not problems whatsoever with the download. :-[  Still happy to see this game on itch.io though, completely hassle-free to download!)
