Absolutely love those screens!  :-D

I'm liking the look of this more and more every time I see it!  I hope there's lots of Larson-esque humour in it too.  :-D

This is looking really good, although I can't forgive the unforgivably large cast of characters.  :-D

Congrats Dave - it's the most amazing experience you can possibly ever have!  Plays merry hell with having time to make games, but still...  :-D

Wow that looks like it could have been a screenshot from Elite 2: Frontier on the 16-bits!  Awesome!

I can't believe how long this thread has gone on.  You guys are just miking it for all it's worth.

Firstly, I'm so glad that this is still in production!!  :-D

Secondly, if you need a hand with the storyline, PM me any time and I'd be very glad to help.

Okay this may be a stupid one, but remember Snake2 back on the old Nokia phones?  The one with an insanely fast game mode?  I got pretty proficient on that and got high scores, but on just one solitary occasion I completely filled the screen with black - no space left, only snake.  I was so pumped up (not to mention surprised and thinking that I must have "completed" the game and that I'd get a congratulations screen!) that I barely noticed the screen then going black and starting from scratch again, getting myself killed almost straight away in the process.

Never actually completed it (or got anywhere near), but managing to successfully navigate those tunnels in Starglider 2 was something I seem to remember being extremely difficult.  Didn't manage that many times.

Does this appeal to anyone?
Yes!

Quote from: Mouth for war on Mon 08/10/2012 17:25:38What are your first thoughts about it? :)

When is the game featuring these graphics coming out?!?  (laugh)

KB - thanks, glad you like the idea!  Tino is entirely responsible for the great art design, I just send him obscure sketches and he turns them into something good!

Selmaik - headbutts no (at least they're not planned at this stage), screenshaking definintely features though!  ;-D

Anas - glad I've surprised you!  Though... if you expect to be surprised next time and I do surprise you again, will you actually be surprised??!  Anyway, we'll get it finished as soon as practically possible, but I have to admit that both Tino and myself have other priorities right now... mainly Captain Disaster and Journey of Iesir.  But we WILL definitely get Troll Song made!  8-)

Firstly, I have to say that this is nothing to do with Pixel Hunt's song!

Secondly... this is going to take a while to come out.  I'm working on this with Tino (Knoodn), creator of the amazingly awesome UNGA needs MUMBA; he's doing the programming and graphics, I'm doing the writing, game design and voice acting.   Both of us are working on other, bigger projects at the moment so this one is going to take a while to come out... but we're steadily working on it.  Music is being provided by the frighteningly talented KingSeamus (http://www.kingseamus.com/).

Troll Song is a little different to most of the other games I'm working on - we're using a 5-verb interface (+Look), the verbs are very specific to a troll.  This isn't a game about dumb brutes... okay the trolls may not speak very eloquently or be extremely intelligent, but they have a definite culture and code of conduct.  (I've always felt that trolls have been dealt an extremely harsh hand in literature!)  This episodic game series gives them a whole new mythology, a creation mythos, and despite their strength and size, a very dangerous enemy...

We're only actually developed one location so far, but it is a rather large location containing a number of puzzles.  Here are some screenshots:

In Troll Song Episode 1: Completely Stoned you play as Clod, a troll who along with all the other trolls has been overpowered by a mysterious force and locked away inside a mountain, trapped by strange devices that are slowly turning them back into inanimate stone.  A freak avalanche opens up a hole into the area Clod is being held, and this reverses the process slightly - enough for him to free himself properly, save his troll brothers and start to find out who their enemy is?  That part's up to you...  As you can partially see from the screenshots, being turned to stone has left Clod a little short of abilities... before you can hope to escape, you'll need to regain your strength and get those abilities back.  (Okay I admit it, this was largely inspired by the part in Zak McKraken where you got locked in a cell by the alien mindbenders and were left with only the Walk verb active until slowly the rest returned!)

I'll post more information on this thread of course and you can also keep tabs on the game at http://www.troll-song.com/.  Once we've got a little further into development I'll probably be looking for some beta testers.  We're hoping to give this game a unique look and feel, and I think we're along the right lines so far.

10'30" and 30% power worked, but only for EB. What are the others parameters for the other brands of tea?

At the moment it doesn't make a lot of difference, because that particular combination is the only one to make one of the fuel components.  In the full game we will of course have an "Earl Grey, Hot" moment!

If you've already got the fuel component, you don't need to do anything more with the tea.

I think that's better - the different elements blend together better now.

To me it still looks a little more like what I'd expect in maybe a horror game, but it depends on how dark you want to go and of course visuals are only a part of the whole atmosphere.

Looks good, anyway.  Interesting game concept too!  ;-D

Ilyich - you thanked us all in advance by making such a great game for us!  ;)

I'm not a musician myself, but...

  • For my commercial game project I will be paying my musicians - I wouldn't think of not paying for music in any future commercial project.  I'm pretty sure all musicians working on commercial projects get paid (if you've composed it specifically for that game).  Getting paid for freeware projects would, I'm assuming, be pretty much impossible though!
  • One of my musicians told me that BandCamp is a good place to both place both to have your portfolio and sell your music (not specifically to game developers, just generally).

Well... that's about all the help I can offer.

Hi there!

Firstly, I'm really pleased that you're enjoying the game so much - always very nice to hear!  ;-D

Here are a couple of hints...

About the pizza... you're on the right track...

Spoiler
CD won't bite the pizza... he just doesn't have the heart to eat a talking pizza.  Neither does anyone else.  But maybe something could appear to eat the talking pizza?
[close]

About the broom alien...

Spoiler
The broom alien doesn't wake up for much, but he HATES dust, especially on the transporter pad...

I'll give more hints if you need me to, but I don't want to spoil it for you by telling you too much straight away!

Ah, more comedy sci-fi!  :-D

Congrats on the release and the mention on indiegames.com (I had to twist Gnome's arm to get a mention for my demo on there...)
