What's people's opinions on Kickstart? Easy to use, does what it says, etc?

I think it does, but 2 reasons you should consider IndieGoGo instead:

- I don't think Kickstarter is Europe-friendly yet - as far as I remember from when I looked into it in relation to my own game a couple of weeks back, you have to be located in the US
- With Kickstarter, you only get the money if you raise all of your goal.  With IndiGoGo, if you raise less than you were trying for, you still get the money (although the commission they take is slightly higher - 7% instead of 4% I think)

General Discussion / I released a new ebook...

In preparation for releasing the public demo of Captain Disaster in Death Has a Million Stomping Feet, I've also re-edited my original short stories featuring the character, reformatted them to make them more ereader friendly, and included a short essay on the process of taking the character out of the realm of short fiction and into a point and click adventure game.  The stories are comedy science fiction with a lot of parody, manic wordplay and general silliness - I wrote the first episode back in 1997 I think, can't remember when the 11th and (so far) final episode was written.

For those interested, it costs £0.99 and can be found here.

I missed last year so am definitely wanting to come this year - the location is actually quite handy for me, only about an hour's drive away.  Maybe first or second weekend in December?

I do hope to have at least 2 games to showcase at the event, depending on the stage of development they've reaching - Troll Song Episode 1: Completely Stoned and Captain Disaster in Death Has a Million Stomping Boots.

No particular ideas about speakers, unless you can bribe Steve Purcell into coming!!  :-D

I compiled a few screenshots from my GiP (which is still too fresh to have its proper GiP thread), The Samaritan Paradox:

...

WOW.

Yeah I guess I should post some up to date screenshots really.  This shows how the ship's cockpit it beginning to come alive:

Nice work - you could say that MPH is a chip off the old block (groan).

Heh, I've been accused of being a grammar Nazi myself at times!

(My game will of course contain a disclaimer that all grammatical and typographical errors in the game are not in fact errors, but intentional misphrases misspellings. :))

Question: Would it be annoying or helpful if I pointed out that there's a typo in the third screenshot?

[glow]Helpful![/glow] :-D

Thanks for that.  I'm pretty sure only the text will need changing - I'm pretty sure I voiced it as delivering!!

It looks great and is already a million miles better than I could achieve myself.  However my only comment really would be maybe to have a tiny amount of movement in the hair as he walks?

It can be hard to tell what characters will look like in action on a low-res screen where they're much bigger, but your sprites certainly look good so far.  I'm interested to see what you come up with for the storyline.

Looking very good so far!  Hopefully I've have time to check out the demo sometime.  All the best with development.

First post updated with new estimated release date of demo, and updated team members.

We're not actually behind schedule for releasing the demo, we've just put it back because we're including a lot more in the demo than originally planned - I'm pleased to say that development is still going very well.  More news soon!

I've also replaced the link to a sampler reel with an .ogg file instead of the stupidly big .wav file I had there - (not quite sure why I didn't do that in the first place!).

I'll second Broken Sword 1, fantastic storyline.  (I love the second game even more, but storyline-wise the first game is stronger.)

The Uncertainty Machine also has a cool storyline that's very well developed.

When it comes out (17th June?), you definitely need to check out Resonance!

Anian has released a line of text in the Release Something 2012 thread! :) 8-)

I think it sounds like a great idea!  One of my favourite things about FoA was that the interface changed slightly when you were in the dark, which is a microcosmic example of what you're looking to try.  If you were (for instance) using a 9-verb interface, you might only need 2 or 3 unique verbs for each character, but it would make the game feel more interesting.

Also have you played Discworld Noir?  After a while you get turned into a werewolf, and your perception of the world changes drastically - basically you see smells as colours.  It added a whole new dimension the game.

So basically yeah, I think if it's done as an essential part of the game and not just a gimmick, you're going to have far more people like it than not.

Harrison Bergeron (1995).

I give my turn up (please no more obscure films with a cult following).

Yup.  Whoever gets here first can take the next go.

And, speaking of graffiti, here's a very-WIP screenshot from a game I've been working on a little while back and plan to come back to after I'm done with another super-secret project (that I'll announce real soon). :P

If that's "very WIP", I can't wait to see the finished version!

Igor, that looks like a fascinating project you've got there!  (nod)
