Superb little game.  ;D

Looks awesome!

Will play this as soon as I've completed The Journey Down.

I can't compare to working on my own as I've never actually finished making an AGS game... but working in the Journey of Iesir team now is a stimulating experience, albeit occasionally frustrating - we seem to be good at finding puzzles none of us can quite agree on every now and then!

Otherwise, it's a very positive thing and mostly done on a forum and via email - I don't really know if any of the team members are even in the same country.

Cool game so far, I'm really enjoying it.

I think high res graphics would have looked great too, but the game has an irresistable retro charm with the high-quality, low-res graphics.  (Great music too!  ;D)

Haven't completed it yet but everything seems good so far.

Can you add the ability to run it in 640x480 resolution?  I know the graphics won't actually be a higher resolution but the only way I can run the game in Vista right now is to have it in a tiny window that I can hardly see!
You can't just choose "run windowed", 2x nearest-neighbour filter?

4X and I have full-screen.  Duh.  Sorry, forgot about that feature.  ::)

Thanks ZayanM and Jimbob!

TheJBurger: Thanks for the kind words, bug report and tip. I'll try your cutscene idea and see how it feels.

I will most likely be accumulating bugs and fixing them this coming week, will try to have a new patched up version online by next weekend.

I'm not so sure you should re-do the backgrounds - the simple cartoony style suits the storyline well.  ;D

This looks to be an interesting project, I look forward to playing the finished game (in English - I'm afraid my French isn't up to much!)

It's good to hear the compliments this game is receiving.  I've been doing my very best to add little programming touches to this game to match the quality of the artwork; to give it that professional feel.
Little touches that the average player wouldn't even notice. :P Those are also the fun ones.

I can say from what I've seen in the beta build so far that those "little touches" really are paying off already.  (Pity a lot of the dialogue's likely to be tripe if I'm writing it... ;D :o)

You receive the +8 Coat of Coolness!  8) 8)

Still working on this bit by bit, In case anyone's interested I've decided to make this an episodic game instead of a single long game - It'll be like a new series of Red Dwarf :P
- Good decision!  ;D

Not really much else to show, I've been working on making the initial puzzle a bit harder and sorting out various small bugs. Hopefully shouldn't be long before there's a finished game for you all to play ;)
- Great news!  8)

Interesting concept, I look forward to seeing how you develop it.  8)

An idea for highlightling when the cursor goes over a hotspot area -  you could have a negative image of whatever sprite the cursor is at the time.  That way players would know something was there, you would still have your b&w screen, and you wouldn't need to create new graphics, just invert the colours of what you've already done.  8)

Okay the bug CaptainD brought up has been fixed. And an updated Demo posted. Just a simple matter of having removed some code from the script page, but forgetting to take the link out of the actions menu for that room.

Thanks again CaptainD!

Your's welcome!  ;D

Glad you fixed the bug, I'll go back and play it again, maybe working out the real solution to that particular puzzle this time!!  8)

Feel free to leave comments/criticisms of the game demo. I would appreciate any feedback.

Hi there!

Some thoughts...

Love the character graphics - very Albert Uderzo (is that what you were aiming for?) - nice animations.  The backgrounds were a little indistinct, but I don't know if they're the final versions?

The puzzles were good, though I couldn't check whether my idea of breaking up the window by putting it where the stones were falling heaviest because the game crashed at that stage.  (Error: prepare_script: error -18 (no such function in script) trying to fun 'hCliffEdge_UseInv' (Room 4)

I loved the idea of the idea icon, and the slowly dawning idea that could then be used.  Great stuff.

Dialogues were funny and just pointed enough to hint the player in the right direction.

I often found it difficult to know where the hotspot of inventory items was - usually a matter of trial and error.

I always prefer it when games give you at least some sort of visual clue when the mouse cursor is over a viewable / interactable object onscreen.

Wasn't too sure about the music - kooky style fitted the game, but it made me turn the sound down after a while (to whoever did the music - sorry!  :o)

All in all this seems to have great potential, I look forward to the finished game.

I'm guessing you asked for one in advance? I didn't bother since I wasn't reviewing it. The press release I got from Emily upon launch simply said "To download the episode, users will need to register a free account on The Silver Lining website", and as far as I could tell there was no direct download of the game available on their pressroom site.

Yeah, when Emily first emailed asking who wanted a copy I said yes, so I guess that's why I got the ftp instructions with no registration required.  Mystery solved!  8)

It felt much more like a tech demo than anything.  There were some good things about it and some bad things... I think we'll have to wait until episode two for any real idea of how good it will be.

My thoughts on TSL

Dualnames - I got a press preview copy and didn't have to register, I'm not sure why everyone else has had to (even some who got a press copy?!)  ???

Has anyone else played this?  It's a real Monkey Island pastiche but also a very good adventure game in its own right.  The only problems are its shortness and relative easiness for most seasoned adventure gamers - the game incorporates some casual gaming elements as well, which I felt were a bit of a mixed blessing...

I've also reviewed it if anyone's interested.  It's definitely an enjoyable game, though probably a little over-priced right now (though the game's author told me that there's a special offer starting tomorrow).
