I don't know if I'm the first person to mention this, but running on Vista is a bit problematic... there's only an option fo 320x200 when you run winsetup, so it can only be run in a window, which is too small to play it properly.  Any chance of making it possible to play in 640x400, which Vista can handle though obviously it will look exactly the same.

Cheers,

Rather odd but in a good way!  ;D

Very nice graphics, very funny voice-acting, good game overall.  When's Chapter 2 coming out?  ;)

Keep it going Dualnames, a project that big takes its time but in the end you'll reward us with something cool, I'm sure of it.

Just played the demo and really enjoyed it - very true to the text and spirit of the book.  Please don't give up on this project - it has amazing potential and I'm sure you'll reach it!

Very short but very funny - nice one!

Sweet! That's some great progress ya got going there ;D

Glad you aprove!  The coding's being a bit of a pain but hopefully a new version with fully completable Act I will be finished soon.

In the meantime here's a screenshot from something that isn't reachable in the demo just yet - something you know you've always wanted - Death riding a cable using a rubber chicken with a pulley in it!!  (Gives away a puzzle later in the game but it's not difficult, especially to anyone who remembers the first Monkey Island game!!  ;D ;D)

The bug which meant you might need to rename the file should be fixed now.

In other news...

A new version of the demo is now available at http://www.games.darscom.net/LODD1.2.zip

Various improvements, additions, and bug fixes.

Some updated screenshots:

Old

New

Still not great works of art I know, but at least a bit of an improvement!

Thansk to CosmoQueen for her help so far with playtesting this game, if anyone else would be willing to lend a hand with finding bugs etc could they please PM me.

Thanks for reporting it; since the editor is undergoing major rework for the next version, hopefully whatever the problem is will be fixed as part of that.

Sadly it won't fix my lamentable lack of scripting ability, which could well have somehow caused the error in the first place!!  :-[

Oh well, one can but try...

Has it happened again since, or was it a one-off?

It seems to be a one-off, I've been using AGS quite a lot today and it hasn't happened again.  I only posted it as the error message itself asked that the details be put on the tech board.

I was just trying to fix a scripting error in a room (and thought I'd managed it... drat!) when I got Exception error 0xC000000005 occurred in AGSEDIT.EXE at EIP = 0x0049C90A; ACI version 2.71.631 while saving the room.

Gah what have I done this time?!?!?!  ::)

Hmm... I had to rename the exe 'Parklife' to get the Winsetup to work.

Other than that, it's progressing nicely. Keep at it!

Oh yeah that was my original name when the game was going to be a one-screen game to get me used to AGS...

...

...

... but I wasn't sensible enough for that...

Here it is, version 1.1... I now have 2 playtesters (with a possible 3rd) who are going to hound me with bug reports and I'm probably going to regret ever knowing!!

    Here's the new download:
www.games.darscom.net/LODD1.1.zip (1.65Mb)

The old download is still available, I kind of want people who are actually interested in this project to see how it's progressing.

What's new:

Some bugs fixed
One new location to explore
A revamped title screen

A couple of new screenshots for you:

Not without doing the 'Don't automaticaly move' thing, no. (That's what I meant by "eModeWalkto doesn't trigger interactions in the same way as other modes".)

According to the manual, checking that option causes eModeWalkto to trigger the Hotspots 'Player stands on hotspot' interaction, so you could use that instead of 'Any click' and if (mouse.Mode == ...

Another, probably easier, option would be to use a Region in conjunction with the Hotspot. Clicking the Hotspot in eModewalkto will make the player move to the Hotspots Walk-To point, and then the Region handles the location change.

Thanks, that's probably going to be the easiest way round it.

Apologies if this has already been answered before but I couldn't find it anyway.

I have a hotspot on one screen that has options fo all the normal interactions, but I want to make it so that if you click on it whne the mouse cursor is on the WALK function, it will take you to a new location.

I'm using the script belopw:

if (mouse.Mode == 0) {
player.ChangeRoom(4,185,280);
}

I'm using the RON template, I'm not entirely sure if zero is the figure for the walk cycle but I'm not sure how to work it out from the global script and from trial and error testing 1-3 seem to refer to the other functions.

Any ideas?

Ah, Zak... I generally hate big mazes etc but somehow the original Zak McKraken will always remain one of my favourite adventure games!  ???

Can't wait to play this one...

I've gotten into the park and had a little wander around, looks good so far!  I'll get back to you when I get further :)

Thanks, that question was just based on something I was told in a PM and I has a sudden horrible moment of thinking no-one realised it was more than 3 screens of playable demo!   :o
#5496
Can I just check, some peole have managed to get inside the park, right?  The games got about 12 playable screens right now.  Getting into the park was just an introductory part of the game...

Very nice graphics!

I haven't read the book - is the Coca-Cola reference from that or of your own devising?!?

I'm not really sure about the head close ups when the characters spoke, but I can see why you included that.

I look forward to the game when it gets releases - sounds weird and wonderful!

Hey you can never have too many RON games!! There hasn't been a new one in quite some time so I'm super excited about this!!! I'm a HUGE fan on RON and I've played all the previous games ;D.

True, you never can have too many RON games... I've nearly played all of them myself!

I hope you enjoyed this one so far... it's got a long way to go, but hopefully this demo gives an idea of what it will become (though admittedly I've been very cagey as to the main plot...)

I am also horrible with graphics, but the one tip I can give you is that you don't leave empty white spaces like you did in the picture before the gate.

I definately can't help you since I am already myself overburdened with a too ambitious RON project!

But, still, I wish you much luck!! :)

Thanks Ozzie, and thanks for the tip too.  One thing I tried to do with this game was have screens different sizes, some bordered by black an some where the player character is very small due to the size of the environment, but I realise a lot of the graphics look really bad.

All the best with your own RON project, I look forward to seeing it (someday - probably before mine gets finished whenever it is...)

Another Dave in relation to RoN? Don't we have enough already?  :=

There's always room for another Dave!!  ;D

I wanted to do a RON game to start with to give something back to teh RON community as I've enjoyed many of the games set in Reality...  want to do a sci-fi adventure game at some point later on, but I'll definitely need a good programmer and graphics artist for that one!
