Hi guys, i'm desperately in need of some responses for a questionnaire i'm running. It's in aid of a research project i have undertaken as part of an assignment for my final year at uni. It's quite specific and maybe not so relevant to a lot of you, but hell i just need to make up the numbers!

It was designed to be sent to full time game developers, so the questions tend to lean towards 'in your experience in the industry'. A little role play may be in order here.

If you could complete the questionnaire to the best of your ability, for anything you're not sure on just make an educated guess. The responses are anonymous, i just need some data to analyse.

If you notice any errors, do let me know! Thank you kindly in advance!

Okay, there's only 10 hours left of the promotion. Some of you may have already spotted this but i'm a bit late on the update.

I'm no 3D guy but this offer may benefit some of you so i figured it worth a post.

Pre-purchase Messiah Studio 5 for just $10 or $40 for pro version, a saving of $1,150.

Hey AGS!

So after many many hours editing it's finally up! This is my first music video, my band have just released our second album so i put together this to promote our track 'When the Dead Walk'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr2FtOvD544

Shot, directed and produced by myself on 550D with Kit and 50mm, there's some slider shots in there are a lot of budget steadicam work. It was 3 days location shooting and a few weeks on and off for the editing, please note that the edit was a little rushed to get it online for the new year.

Enjoy!

Hey how!

I have now started the final year of my degree course and have been asked to do a dissertation on a subject that is relevant to my future career. I'm really trying to jump on the bandwagon here, i want to direct those epic scripted sequences you see in the shooters, and the fantastic cutscenes you see in every FF game. Commercial gaming is becoming more and more linked with the film industry as the years pass and i really want to be on top of the competition.

Now i have a few contacts at Future Publishing, who are more than willing to share their little relevant knowledge on the subject but i figured that my good buddies at AGS would be another great place to ask!

Has anyone had any prior experience in a production team where there has been call for a cinematography director? Does anyone know of a company i could e-mail who may have some experience? Any articles/websites that you can remember that touch on the subject? Know of any really good FMV games?

I'm also toying with my final major project, i'm either going for a 20 minute short film or a short (demo length) FMV game to showcase my skills. Opinions?

Any bit of help is appreciated! It would be great if i could get an insight from some of the big names in the indie industry!

Hello sexy!

I have decided to jump on this youtube wagon thing. That means that now i can inflict my films upon you, although i have made many university related short films, they've all been pants.

Anyway, i uploaded a short camera test (in HD) with my new Canon that has some cool music, slow-mo and a nifty production logo at the start. It's the same production alias that i would go by if i ever finished an AGS project.

Camera test:

Edit: 4 minute experimental film:

Check it out and subscribe, hurrah!  :D

Not sure this is really worthy of it's own topic, but i'm sure someone will be a bit 'Oh yeah, thats... good to know?'.

Anyway, this image helped me realised my fat hands had experienced the Wii's phallic glory before. Even the analogue stick, it just never dawned on me.

If this is old news then calm your lary i-ego and indulge in an alternate conversation over the further lack of innovation in the playstation and xbox controllers, or penis size. That or just watch this:

I figured i'd make my first CGA thread, this is a very short game with little to no difficulty and a lack of beta testing, story and animation. Proof that i'm not as awesome as Ben and Calin  :=

Use this thread to post bugs that i will never fix  ;D

Hello script monkeys ;)

I would like to use some pieces of video i have recorded in 1080i in AGS. But don't worry! I want to render at 640x480 and am just wondering what the best output settings for my video editing software (FCP) would be? What is the best file format for quality/size and is there a specific frame rate i need to use?

Also, how well does AGS handle objects overlaying video?

thanks for any help, i hope i chose the right board.

Hello far superior coders!

I have a simple problem that i don't really know what the best solution would be. I have 9 coins scattered across multiple locations, i simply want to have a number in the top right hand corner of the inventory graphics that increases when you collect each coin.

Would it be better to make 9 separate inventory items (each with unique graphics) and some sort of +1 script or is there an elite raw draw text scripting alternative? The coins can be collected in any order.

Thanks in advance!

Got my hands on the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta today and was genuinely blown away by the level of detail in the co-op campaign mission 'Nepal Warzone' available to play. Naughty Dog have got some serious artistic direction and attention to detail in this game, it feels charming, it feels nurtured and best of all it almost feels pixely?

That probably sounds insane to those who have not played this game but if you take a look at this screenshot you can get an idea of what i mean.

http://www.anaitgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/uc2at-urban-warfare-street.jpg

It's not the best example, but the first i found. Each part of the map is so full up with rubble, dirt and bathtubs (among lots of other things) that it is a constant stimulus to the viewer much like those painstakingly pixeled backgrounds that we all love. Instead of filling up these 1080i games with copy+paste models and tiled textures (ala Halo ODST) uncharted 2 has put the effort in to make every second of play as visually pleasing as possible. I can only base this on what i have played but it's such a long time since a game has stood out this much to me visually that i thought it was worth a mention.

Anyone else played it?

Hey hey,

I have been doing a degree in moving image for the past year and am finally shooting my first worthwhile film in october! I just wanted to see what people thought of my production title which is linked below and was seeing if anyone else on the forums are into the indie filmmaking scene? (i know LGM has a dabble)

I've accumulated quite a lot of kit now, things like a handheld camera stabilizer, 35mm DOF adapter, wide angle lens, HDV camcorder, 3 piece Redhead kit etc. There's so much creative control once you get into stuff like lighting, prop design, focus selection, screenwriting and camera gestures that it's a really exhilarating and satisfying process. It all feels quite similar to the adventure game production process so i figured we might have a few filmmakers in our midst? Anyway here's something fun i made to play before my films.

Oh and if anyone's interested there's a casting call on the twistedtape.co.uk website for UK actors, unfortunately both the lead roles have been filled already but all the characters are quirky in the own right!

This is bloody mental, i'm freaking out here!

'The Walt Disney empire is to buy the superheroes stable Marvel Entertainment for $4bn (£2.5bn) in a star-studded Hollywood deal that unites family names such as Mickey Mouse with lucrative characters including Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk and the X-Men.'

Gutted!

Sprite Jam | 15th July - 23rd July | Point and click super-heros

Everyone knows Stan Lee is a massive fan of Monkey Island and with the release of the fifth installment in the series it was only a matter of time before Marvel made the all important call to Lucas Arts regarding a low res point and click super-hero game. "But where will we get the artists!" cried Stan, well with all the fan game copy-write infringement coming from the AGS forums Lucas Arts knew just the people for the job.

Yes that means you! For this weeks sprite jam you need to take the role of character artists for Lucas Arts big new adventure game due for exclusive release on the Nintendo DS. You have been asked to create a Player character sprite of a classic Lucas Arts adventure game character dressed as their super-hero alter ego. The sprite needs to be suitable for the Nintendo DS's native resolution of 256 x 192 pixels.

To re-cap:

Sprite must be suitable for backgrounds sized at 256x192 pixels.

Sprite must be a unique image (no paintovers) of a classic Lucas Arts character dressed in a super-hero outfit.

Sprite can have no more than 30 colours.

Remember! With great power comes great responsibility.

Happy pixeling.

Hello, hai.

Just got myself a macbook pro, they're pretty sweet but the freeware m$paint substitute i've downloaded is pants. Anyone know of any good programs out there just for low-res stuff?

Also has anyone used one of those wacom Cintiq* tablets?

*thanks Darth  ;)

Heh, another computer woe to mindboggle the ags hardware leets.

My computer is one of those horrible hp pre-builds (thumbs up for pc world cridit scams) but its not half bad had a 2.4 quad core, 3 gigs of ram and did have a basic 300watt psu.

Now i bought an 8800 gtx for it as the video card before was bottlenecking and also a new psu as my new card needs two pci-e power connectors.

So i got an EZ Cool 600W SLI Ready PSU - 12cm Fan, 2x PCI-E, 20+4pin, 1x SATA and now all i get is the system rebooting whenever the pci-e bus or gpu is stressed.

ideas?

Or if anyone thinks they can do a better job on the mastering i have all the master tracks in Audacity native format and a gmail account.

I have spend the last couple of days putting together the track 'anemic'. It's still a demo, and i need another instrument really to complete the mix.

But anyway, everything is played, recorded and mixed by me. Comments?
