Explore the island

See the sights

Eat bananas

Story
Play as Herman Toothrot fresh on the shores of Monkey Island for the second time. After a lengthy intro tale on the decks of the Sea Monkey, first mate Herman and his captain stand face to face with fate in the hope of finding the secret of this seemingly harmless island.  Play through from the first footsteps in the sand all the way to meeting the mighty Guybrush Threepwood, as seen in SoMI.

Development Progress:

Story: 60%
Scripting: 15%
Graphics: 60%
Sound/Music: 0%

Art, puzzles and story: Chicky
Programming: Babar

Development Diary:

21/02/06: Completed three new backgrounds today, mostly finished story planning.

15/03/06: I've been re-working the story somewhat and working on background art and scripting. I've come to the point where i'd like to include some music to add to the atmosphere of the game. I don't know much about composing but i want the music to sound retro, like the graphics.

19/03/06:I've been working hard on the game almost all day today and decided to play through MI1 again for some more ideas. I'm at part 3 of MI and have been taking a lot of notes and working on the story a lot more.

Fond a Musician now.

20/03/06: Finished Monkey Island 1 again this morning (first time in a good 2 years!) and i have over 3 pages of notes now! I am currently re-working the story to make is as true to the two first MI games as possible. At the moment i've got close to 15 backgrounds complete and am hoping to really explore Monkey Island a bit more. Maybe Melee island will have a few new footsteps too ;)

Thanks for the comments and help guys, i've got a close circle of ags'ers keeping me going on this one and every comment is apreciated.

06/04/06: Release dates suck. College work, lovelife and band work has kept me from doing any serious work on the game the past couple of weeks but development will soon be underway again.

06/07/06: Ahh, been doing lots of little bits with the game, working with the palette is a pain but should pull off. I keep re-playing and re-playing the game to make sure everything feels right, i hope the humors up to standard of the series.

14/06/06 : Well progress has been going slow but sure, GUI, inventory and puzzle system have been implemented, few more puzzles have been programmed and i've managed to hook myself up with a tablet pc so i can work on the game anywhere i go.

REALLY NEED A NEW MUSICIAN - If you're interested please pm me on the forums or email cs.chicken@gmail.com. Cheers.

Much love x

05/03/07 : My my, doesn't this game making process take a long time, 'ey :)

I've started work in HTMI again, don't worry I'm not redoing backgrounds or rewriting story, just plodding along with the same stuff i've been working on all this time.

I'm a VERY slow programmer, scripting puzzles takes me hours so bare with me. I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

Like i've said a hell of a lot of art is done its just putting it all together now, i've coded another big puzzle today so i'm happy.

We WILL get there, in the end!

27/01/2010 : Blast from the past!

Teehee...

I have coined this year as the year of AGS so it seems i have to contribute in some way  Seeing as i'm a hopeless programmer and so many people have been waiting on this game I am very happy to announce i now have a code junkie helping me! Babar is the new weapon in the HTMI fight for release, this is awesome because he's very enthusiastic and has been a fan from the start. It also means that now i have someone else doing the editor stuff i can concentrate on getting every pixel perfect on every screen, i appreciate there are a few improvements that could be made.

I can confidently say that there WILL be a HTMI release in 2010

Could it be?

Last weekend we went to a different pub for a drink, it wasn't quite so local to my girlfriends house this time (about a 10 minute drive) but was well worth the distance. I entered the pub to find out it was like walking into the Tardis. It was a massive place. There was a 25 stone television on the wall, an awesome video jukebox and a lot of other random junk you'd expect to find in a pub.

But i was amazed when i saw something. On the shelf above us were lots of old trinkets (apparently glued down as Amy's sister kindly told me). Among those trinkets were some video game box's, and you'll never guess what; beneath the copies of Theme Hospital and Rollercoaster Tycoon there it was like the bible of adventure gaming. It was a boxed copy of Monkey Island for the Atari ST. Now how much is this worth? Obviously a hell of a lot to me but if someone was to sell such a vintage item (in excellent condition from what i could see) surely it would be worth a great deal?

But yes, if the bastard happened to be glued to it's close friend rollercoaster tycoon i'd be pissed. But do you think i should check? It's right in front of the bar, do i smell a classic adventure game puzzle?

what do you think?

*Also if anyone know's how to chop bits off midi files then could they kindly add me on msn at cs.chicken@gmail.com. Ta.

Howdy all.

I've got this here character that i've drawn for my current project, you see i've now finished game and am looking to clean things up a little and give the whole porject a bit of jazz.

(sorry about the watermark)

As you can see the character is two tone, with two colours.  I need the character to look realistic enough to fit in with my background art. At the moment the two colours do the job but leave too much to the imagination. He needs clothing, and skin tone!

I was wondering if someone could have a quick shot at clothing this frame so i can get some ideas where to work from, i'm not the best guy at spriting realistic characters as it is.  ::)

Okay so i got my wacom today and have been trying to recreate Dans awesomeness all afternoon.

it's a lot harder than it looks :P

So i took a break and tried something different, took me about ten minutes to finish.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT - forget the last one

I took another stab at drawing a more serious background, this one has taken around an hour so far to lineart and colour, all done with the tablet.

I'm really stumped on how to do the water, i want to have something that looks realistic with a nice reflection of the moon in it but i also need to add more of a glow for the moon on the grass etc.

Scotch... Loominous? Eric?

Well i guess someone had to start a thread.

I would like to say that i absolutely love this game to pieces, I've just finished it and i have that same warm feeling you get after a special movie. It's amazing how much work and detail went into this game, I'm going to have to play through it at least two more times to get alternate routes/endings.

And about the sex? I know there's some difference between NSTC and PAL versions of the game but playing pal myself i was quite surprised at how intimate the sex was. I appreciated that the sex did add to the game in the same way a passionate scene of intercourse adds to a film, and i was pleasantly relieved when they resisted adding cheesy mini-games into these scenes.

Simply an awesome game, i could really feel for the characters and just didn't want it to end. Interface was great, story was great and voice acting and graphics were great. Like playing a classic adventure game in 3D. Excellent.

AGS on CD!

Ever wished you could have access to those lovely longer ags games such as the oworc entries or Apprentice2? Or have really wanted a speech pack for a certain game but just don't have the internet speed to download?

Well now's your chance! I've got a heap load of spare cd's lying around and nothing to really do with them. I figured if there's any ags'er that wants a selection of ags games put onto cd for them and then posted to their house then why not come to me. If i don't already have the game i will download it for you and you can put as many games as you can fit onto a 600mb cd! Oh and the best thing is, i will do this for free! Free postage (in uk) and no labour fee!

hehe, so yes if you want some ags games put onto a cd for you then mailed to your house just reply here with a list of the games and i will try to get to it asap.

Howdy,

As of recent I've decided to start up my own little webcomic, it's nothing fantastic or out of the ordinary but it's mine. It's a way for me to get what's on my mind out in the open without it being too obvious. In Bashfull i try to tell a story, but i plan on putting influences from my life into the strip as well.

The comics only been running a couple of days, but with a new strip/episode each day (today being a double strip as i have a new job interview) it should be something fun to check whenever you go online.

So that's about it, bookmark the site www.bashfull.tk and check back as often as possible! Cheers!

A friend of mine has been having problems with his hard drive recently, seems to be virus related. After the problems started he used to be able to access files via a boot in dos mode but he can't even do this now.

So we're trying to access his files by slaving his hard drive from my main hdd. The problem is, his user account is passworded. When we try and access his files windows states that the files are password protected but there is no prompt to enter a password.

Wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem, or knows of how to fix ours?

cheers,

Here's a fun little flash game i found. It's called hapland, not sure wether it's new but it reminds me of oddworld, which surely can't be a bad thing? :)

The aim of the game is to light both torches and open the big portal to the right.

General Discussion / Problem with 2dadventure?
Mon 14/02/2005 17:46:53
I hope this isn't simply a downtime (if so, this is quite a pointless topic), but it appears that the 2dAdventure's hosting is having a problem with hotlinking? see this:

An image that i entered for this months spritejam, (rather crap) but it appears as a small red x in IE, as if it's a dead link; and in Firefox it simply doesnt appear at all.

now if you follow this link:

http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/tv.PNG (drag and drop)

Then the image works! ... Neole, do we have a problem here?

Okay, it's been a while since i've put somthing here for you savages to rip apart. But hey, why not.

Now this is one of the backgrounds for my current project, more of a mockup really. But yes, the style stinks. It deff needs somthing it looks too simple and dare i say 'noobish'.

Any comments on the style are welcome and of course paintovers.  :)

Paranoid!

Well here it is, my attempt at this months MAGS.

You Play EGO, a man trapped in a world of pixels and binary. Convinced that you're stuck in an computer game you go forth to seek somone who may know somthing about the matter.

Game is in 320x240 high colour, with loads of places to go. :)

http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Paranoid1.1.zip

Enjoy.

Version 1.1 is now here, fixed the inventory graphics.

I was very hard pushed to finish this game (family problems), and apologise for any bugs/typos that may be in it. It is my first completed game and i just wanted to get it finished.

The Sprizzle Jum!

Ok, this months sprite jam subject is:

The worst neighbor EVER...

I want to see the kind of person you would absoloutly detest living near, in their living enviroment.

*TOPIC - Draw what you would think is the WORST neighbor ever.
*SIZE - Anything less than 200 x 200 pixels
*COLOURS - 256 Colours
*SUGGESTIONS

Why not the boy next door? having the most popular guy live next to you, resulting in every time one of your *female friends* come over they become head over heel's in love with him. Or vicar versa if you're female.

Good luck, i look forward to seeing the entries. Which must all be in by the third of September.[/b][/blue]

hello there

having a little problem scripting GuardDuty. Im not too experienced with strings and buffers and whatnot.

this is in my GUI script:

else if (button == 0)    // Eat item?

    string buffer;
      GetInvName(game.inv_activated,buffer);
      DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Are you sure you want to eat %s ?",buffer);

i get "error: unexpected string"

a little help please?

*edit*

ok, so I'm still confused. Changed the script a little

    else if (button == 0)    // Eat item?

      GetInvName (int item, string buffer);
      GetInvName(game.inv_activated ,item);
      DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Are you sure you want to eat %s ?" ,item);

: Parse error in expr near "string"

I'm not all that sure what I'm doing. Just trying different things until it works :/
