Just remember that compositions hold copywrite as well, not to the score but to the actual performance or midi sequence etc. You can't just take someone's midi even if the original composer has been dead for 70 years.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Got my hands on the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta today and was genuinely blown away by the level of detail in the co-op campaign mission 'Nepal Warzone' available to play. Naughty Dog have got some serious artistic direction and attention to detail in this game, it feels charming, it feels nurtured and best of all it almost feels pixely?

That probably sounds insane to those who have not played this game but if you take a look at this screenshot you can get an idea of what i mean.

http://www.anaitgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/uc2at-urban-warfare-street.jpg

It's not the best example, but the first i found. Each part of the map is so full up with rubble, dirt and bathtubs (among lots of other things) that it is a constant stimulus to the viewer much like those painstakingly pixeled backgrounds that we all love. Instead of filling up these 1080i games with copy+paste models and tiled textures (ala Halo ODST) uncharted 2 has put the effort in to make every second of play as visually pleasing as possible. I can only base this on what i have played but it's such a long time since a game has stood out this much to me visually that i thought it was worth a mention.

Anyone else played it?

Imagine Matrix done with classic cinematography... while it would be a fun experiment to see :D movie itself would probably suck

This is silly, have you seen the special features from the matrix DVD? The way they do the 360 camera is bloody clever and i would consider it classic and innovative cinematography (not sure if they did it first though). Also if you take the first matrix film and compare it to the toss that is Matrix Revolutions you can clearly see the negative effect CGI has, even in a film based around a computer generated reality.

It's clear that CGI is over used in almost every hollywood action flick, this is largely down to the rules put on producers regarding actors safety when stunts can be substituted by CGI. Why risk people's lives when the same effect can be achieved with a good 3D artist? Because it makes a far more satisfying watch! I like to know that someone has risked their life for a role convincing scene, i respect them for it. I'd choose real life action heroes blowing themselves up over sweaty men sat in middle of a rendering farm.

Sorry to rant.

28th was the final deadline, sorry for the delay (i'm hopeless).

Tzachs wins first place with his cute creation and receives the gold medal!

Jim Reed takes second place with his not so cute but nicely rendered and charming creation.

FSi takes third place with his lumpy creation.

Hey hey,

I have been doing a degree in moving image for the past year and am finally shooting my first worthwhile film in october! I just wanted to see what people thought of my production title which is linked below and was seeing if anyone else on the forums are into the indie filmmaking scene? (i know LGM has a dabble)

I've accumulated quite a lot of kit now, things like a handheld camera stabilizer, 35mm DOF adapter, wide angle lens, HDV camcorder, 3 piece Redhead kit etc. There's so much creative control once you get into stuff like lighting, prop design, focus selection, screenwriting and camera gestures that it's a really exhilarating and satisfying process. It all feels quite similar to the adventure game production process so i figured we might have a few filmmakers in our midst? Anyway here's something fun i made to play before my films.

Oh and if anyone's interested there's a casting call on the twistedtape.co.uk website for UK actors, unfortunately both the lead roles have been filled already but all the characters are quirky in the own right!

If this turns out to be true I hope you use your newfound wealth to establish the Dave Gilbert Institute for the Advancement of Adventure Games, and give us all scholarships, and people would call us Dave's projectees.

That would be amazing, we could finally moderate the use of 'adventure game' as a genre.

Rubbish! You cannot fault the CGI in the indiana jones trilogy, you try and do better!

Kingdom of the alien bullshit sucked so bad. I refuse to accept it's existence.

I think we need to consider that if it wasn't for S Club we would be without the cinematic genius that is Primeval.

I'm going to extend the deadline by a couple of days to allow for the forum down time.
