Thanks to everyone who took part for an awesome Sunday! There weren't enough hours in the day for me to meet everyone but I had a lot of fun chatting to those I managed to meet :) Also sorry to Dave for going a bit fanboy on him 8-)

You're all awesome! Just got back from AdventureX to see all these lovely comments :)

selmiak: You'll have to trust me on the story, it's wild but should feel like something fresh. I wanted each act to add something new for the player, like three interwoven mini-stories. If there was a subtitle it would probably be something like 'Horseback to the Future'.
Dualnames: It's been a long ride but I eventually found my style, all thanks to this very inspiring community (and you too bbz)
KodiakBehr: Thanks! Hopefully the story isn't too wild ;) Watch this space for a dev-blog link.
Fitz: Score! The first 30 minutes of Bioshock: Infinite were my favorite, I loved walking around Columbia and watching all the NPC's. If I can come close to this i'll be happy!
I<3Pindorama! Um. Thanks, I think! :D

To all commenting on the artwork, you're the reason I do this. Big grin on my face right now!

Guard Duty is an ambitious puzzle adventure game, following in the footsteps of titles like
Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Simon the Sorcerer and the Discworld series.

The game features a unique three act story with an open world to explore, carefully paced
puzzles and two radically different timelines.

Story

When a teenage apprentice stumbles upon his mentor's collection of Demonic literature he
learns of a long forgotten ancient ritual, a recipe for destruction, death and the promise
of immortality.

With evil in his eyes the apprentice embarks on the journey of a lifetime, one reaching
far across the depths of time and space.

'An exchange of royal blood for an eternity on the throne, to be king of the underworld,
ruler of the mortal realm.'

Characters

Take control of the first dynamic duo with a heritage line spanning multiple millennia!
Destiny speaks of two men that can stop the young soon-to-be ruler of the world, well,
more like one and a half men:

Agent Starborn, time travelling Lieutenant General of the Guardians of New Haven!

...and Tondbert, Night's Watchmen of Wrinklewood, part time drunk and three quarter dwarf.

Gameplay

As you puzzle your way through this unique three act story you will get to do a bunch of cool stuff like:
Catapult yourself across a bottomless chasm of doom, save a Knight from a giant Sandworm
or even TRAVEL THROUGH TIME AND SPACE.

Guard Duty is due to release in Spring 2019.

Super excited to return to AdventureX, i'll be there on the Sunday. Looking forward to meeting some new faces!

Saw this and was a little insulted by the amount of money he is requesting. Is this to cover publishers and promotion or something?

It would have been nice if they used an original style with a talented pixel artist, there's plenty of people who would jump at the opportunity.

Meh, I've never been a fan of those MM oversized heads!

Fun! I managed to get inside the cage whilst it was raised. Not sure if I was supposed to but it seems the player collision needs to be a bit wider to stop us from squeezing through the bars ;)

Keep going, you've got a good vibe here DN.

Aww, so cute NickyNyce! What an adorable costume ;-D

LimpingFish - Creepy! Did you light the eyes, or is that just the photo's effect? They look cool glowing.

Did anyone else dress up, c'mon guys! :) I know a certain someone dressed up as an Ewok, which was also adorable ^^

Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
Halloween! Halloween!

Everyone hail to the pumpkin song.

Did anyone else dress up? I did the rounds at a few charity shops and whipped mine up this afternoon. Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead :=

I think ChestPecRespect's point is based on the assumption that most players don't want to look at photos of dead people!

That said, it looks like you have a very complex game here Slasher, I love the whodunit idea and the attention to historical details really make the project stand out.

Maybe the deceased could be represented by a gravestone with the victims name and date of birth/death engraved?

Hats.Hats.Hats.Hats. Hats.

Sorry for the hat-crop, the hat didn't fit my head very well.

Any news on the next podcast? Have just caught up with the last 15 or so episodes in my backlog := Really liked the GDC one, had a nifty change of pace.

If you're stuck for topics it would be nice to hear one about the challenges that come with making a commercial release, press packs, promotion, non disclosure contracts -that kind of thing :)

*Edit: Didn't think that through. Sorry for raising hopes of a new episode :sealed:

Had some time to work on this again today, I tried to incorporate all the points mentioned. Moved the antenna from her head, not really sure where to go with the image now... I guess she could be face to face with a creepy alien := My initial idea was to draw a RC android girl, but now she looks more like a space explorer :-D

It means a lot hearing all your compliments, so thanks again for those  :-*

Thanks for the kind words guys! I tend to overlook certain proportion/anatomy issues after working on the same piece for a prolonged time (flipping horizontally totally helps for this!)

It's good to hear there aren't any obvious issues with the first pic, spent a bit longer tweaking that one. Scavenger, your edit is spot on and definitely the thing that was bothering me. I'm at work at the moment but will work that into my next update. The hair on the second picture need some work too, I'm thinking it's a bit too detailed?

The avatar image is from an old TV advert, I'll dig out a YouTube link, she's certainly mesmerising ;)

It's been a long time since I've posted something here for critique, mostly because all I do is top secret game stuff. := I'm practicing drawing high-res art between the HOURSANDHOURS&HOURS of pixel art I've been slaving over.

So I recently tried converting some of my pencil sketches to digital, kinda comic book style. I'm pretty sucky at digital painting so I'm trying to find a colouring technique that is flat and easy to reproduce.

Would appreciate critique on any area of these, proportions, line weight, colour etc. They could both do with a background, but that can wait for now!

Ta!

Thanks guys! ;-D :-*

I've had a productive day in Photoshop whilst drinking fizzy drinks. Hurrah!

Looks good to me, thanks for heads up :)

I picked one of these up for £5 a few weeks back, it's missing the cables and the Amstrad CRT, does anyone have any experience with using the RF modulator and PSU?

It goes so slowly because every time I make progress, I level up in drawing ability and start over! I haven't even started learning to program really yet, and I've been here for years.

Eric, go careful with that. Soon you'll be 11 years in and have re-designed and rebuilt your game 4 times.  :-D

Besides, the puppet door has to be the most original approach to the locked door puzzle i've come across. Fantastically creative!
