Hey how!

I have now started the final year of my degree course and have been asked to do a dissertation on a subject that is relevant to my future career. I'm really trying to jump on the bandwagon here, i want to direct those epic scripted sequences you see in the shooters, and the fantastic cutscenes you see in every FF game. Commercial gaming is becoming more and more linked with the film industry as the years pass and i really want to be on top of the competition.

Now i have a few contacts at Future Publishing, who are more than willing to share their little relevant knowledge on the subject but i figured that my good buddies at AGS would be another great place to ask!

Has anyone had any prior experience in a production team where there has been call for a cinematography director? Does anyone know of a company i could e-mail who may have some experience? Any articles/websites that you can remember that touch on the subject? Know of any really good FMV games?

I'm also toying with my final major project, i'm either going for a 20 minute short film or a short (demo length) FMV game to showcase my skills. Opinions?

Any bit of help is appreciated! It would be great if i could get an insight from some of the big names in the indie industry!

Well done Mode7, you have established a very desirable look. Your sprite fits perfectly but needs a little work on the hands, the character also appears to be leaning backwards.

That farmer looks awesome! Pretty way of drawing the tree, too! Thanks to Babar and Ascovel for the plug  ;)

your links seem messed up, (.htt?)

Your art on the other hand is not! Beautiful work Pinback.

Inc, that video is bloody great. Don't give up on this! If the palms twisted as Mad suggested that would look spot on. I suggest adding the yellow highlights seen in Ryan's examples.

ProgZmax or SamLjackson? :D

Not much wrong with the grass, it has a nice depth to it. Nothing wrong with using the grass brush for its intended purpose.

The walls behind are a little confusing.

Idea: Blue Original idea, no clear walkable areas though!
Design: Pinback Very interesting and strangely organic detail, lovely atmosphere.
Functionality: Tier Great background! Lots of tiny details to examine.
Technique: Blue Great quality to the rendering and the skyline is perfect!

i think there's a bit more to it than some simple shapes! You obviously have a good grasp of how an image should look, nice clean style.

See how you've given the floor some depth, try adding a bit of that to the top of the cubicle walls.

I suspect that larger models are healthier for your body, as you get more posture variation

I like your character, he looks like liquid snake!

Aww, i wish i was a badass elite artist too. Draconian is such a cool word.

Joel, have you tried a little pixel by pixel anti alias on those shadows?

The Cintiq is great if you have somewhere tidy to use it, it's pants for use with a laptop on a sofa  :-X

Also has some annoying issues when drawing near the edges, but as i found out recently... they're beer proof!

All of the sprites and backgrounds here are free to use if you keep within the bounds of the RON backstory.

Icey you are amazing, you make me laugh so hard. Please don't ever leave these forums.

I like the slightly higher res character portraits you have on your site. I can't wait until you grow up a little and can apply your efforts a little more consistently.

I actually find music to be one of the quickest things to do.

All the music in Eternally Us took a few hours.

Art takes the longest in my experience, ey ey ey Steve, ey ey!  := := :=

Promotional tournament for the release of Doctor Doctor: Freelance Surgeon, in the local arcade, including real life nurses! Winner takes away coveted stethoscope + stand trophy, signed by the lead game designer: joeflint82.

Just draw a new arcade machine, make a mini-game and add some characters. Job done!
