Is there a simple way to make my ego sprite walk faster? I guess it'd be increasing it's step size. Is there a non-scripting way to do this?
Thanks

That worked like a charm. I had to go from indexed color to rgb twice, but I figured out a method that worked. PNG format worked as well.
Thanks for the advice.

Ok, sounds simple enough. But before I do this, how do I make a photoshop image into 256 colors? Do I just make the two colors I'm using for the mask one of the 256 colors? If so, does anyone have a hexidecimal color I can use (besides black of course).
Thanks again.

Hey,
I can't seem to export a working mask from photoshop. Can someone tell me what the required formats that are involved? ex) 256 colors?, resolution, file format, 8-bit or 16-bit, foreground color, background color, ect ect... I have no clue on how to make this work. Also, I can use a mask for walk-behind areas right?
Thanks!

Hey thanks, this method worked just fine. I wanted the sprite resized as the character was closer or father away from the bottom of the screen, similar to the method used in QFGIV.

Quick question... can AGS resize a sprite for you? Or do I have to draw different sizes of sprites? If AGS can resize them, does the product look bad?
Thanks

Here are some helpful tips not in the tutorial:

First, for the grass and leaves you've been using, set your background color to pure black. It makes things much more realistic.

Second, you can create your own brushes for making foliage.
First download this psd file:
http://igloo.zapto.org/~corby/stock/leaf.psd
Here's what it is:

-Basically what I did was opened a new 32x32 pixel canvas, and used the pencil tool to draw a leaf shape with a transparent background.

-Next, go to Edit - "Define Brush", and pick a name for your brush.
-Now Select your new brush, and under "Windows", select "brushes"
-Now just change the settings to these:
Under Shape Dynamics:
   Jitter - 100
   Minimum Diameter - 1
   Angle Jitter - 100
   Roundness Jitter - 56
   Minimum Roundness - 25

Under Color Dyanimic:
   Hue Jitter - 13
All others should be at zero

Under Scattering:
    Scatter - 449
    Count - 2
    Count Jitter - 98

-Now go to the indicated arrow as seen here:

-In the drop down menu, select "New Brush" and give it a name.

You now have a brand new scattering brush that should work nicely for foliage! Turning down the size of this new brush to about 6 or 7 makes for a good random leaf pattern. Play around with your own shapes and fiddle with the brush settings.

As for grass... here's a nice example: http://www.nancycarterdesign.com/bryce/tutorial/

Hmmm maybe I should add this to the tutorial...
Hope this helps!  8)

WOW! I'm amazed and very very jealous! The thing I like most is how you do your rocks and trees! Reminds of the way I do business but I like yours better!

I can tell you used a underpainting/overpainting method, very good work! I think I may steal the colors you used for that rock in the first pic! :)
BTW I love how pixalated it looks! Keep it up!

Thanks for all the comments guys!  ;D I'll revise the tutorial a bit and add the colors for both doors. (Those doors are actually more of applying color with a normal brush rather than dissolve, but the dissolve method works too.) I'll put the colors up nonetheless.
Thanks!
