Apart from the hints from Crimson Wizard, if you have an AVI cutscene playing at the beginning of the game, it's not going to work in fullscreen, with the Direct3D renderer (it will result in a black screen, with just audio playing). Either convert the video to OGV, or change the graphic driver to DD5/OGL (3.4.1)
Plus I get the black screen issue you mentioned quite often, when running the game in a minimized window state (for example running the exe and clicking somewhere else on the screen minimizing the game window, before the first room fully loads) - it doesn't load anything, hard freezes on a black window, and can only be killed via the task manager. Running the game in a focused window works each and every time.

True, it's always exciting to see your new animations on my twitter feed. :D They're just so gorgeously crafted, it's really pleasing to the eye.

And yes, nothing can top your water effects, absolutely nothing.

I sure do. Remember playing it on my friend's Amiga 500 (which was a total beast back then. Having just a crappy DOS PC and a NES/Famicom clone, I was completely mesmerized by the cool games and demos he had), and really enjoyed it, but never bothered to remember the name. All the good memories returned when I discovered there was also a DOS port ("Hey, it's that cool game I played!").
Funny thing though, I also played it recently, while firing up my Amiga 1200 for a quick check run.

The lyrics probably said it the best - war never been so much fun. :D

@Gurok - Hideki Naganuma does some excellent work with sampling in his tracks. His soundtracks (Jet Set Radio, Sonic Rush, Ollie King) are a pure joy to listen to.

Looking awesome!  Now it's time to FINISH IT! (So we can PLAY IT ;) )

Yes, Sir! :D Man, I should've known the last 5% will be the longest 5% I've ever did... having a day job doesn't help. :( Oh, and thanks Cassie, Stupot, Blondbraid and AnasAdbin! Glad you liked our lil' cartoon shorts. ;) (there's more to come soon!)

Anyway, more final artworks and fixes. Including hi-res encyclopedia illustrations:

and some better screen/scene transitions. Several users already noted the old ones looked kinda basic, so we decided to spice'em up a bit:

And as an added bonus - ever wondered what did the dinosaurs do in their free time? Wonder no more, here's a historically accurate portrayal:

With the first screenshot I wasn't 100% sure... but the archers on the second one totally gave it away. :D

Alright, here goes!

What catches my attention in your cut scenes is that you are not afraid of moving large objects even slightly (nod)

Thanks! The last GIF is actually an avi/ogv video cutscene (ZA will feature several of these), although you're correct, the rest of the animations shown here (events, real time cutscenes, actions and background animations) are played using the wonders of views and AGScript. :D

And thanks Blondbraid, Stupot and Cassie! Glad you enjoyed it!

That scenery kinda reminds me of Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender...

Thanks AnasAbdin and Danvzare!

QuoteYou and your team are really going all out with this game.

Heheh, not much of a team, it's just me (programming, writing, some smaller graphics and anims) and Twarda (everything art-and-animation related). :D And Problem of course, who does some excellent tunes for the game!

Anyway, as we promised, we started doing the absolute horror that are FMV cutscenes (can't have a cartoon game without a few fullscreen videos!)
Since we're doing it in a classical manner, it's 10 times worse than the normal in-game animations. :D But hey, anybody who did some frame-by-frame animation knows the drill...
Can't really show you a longer and finished cutscene, as it's dangerously close to the spoiler territory, but hey, here's an other example:

If you're traversing through the bushes, you have to hit everything on your path, it's the law of the cartoons!

I just don't want to think about the amount of work required to animate the intro and outro... :D

Personally I love such little design touches. It's like the game is telling me "look how the devs/designers are thinking of everything!" But hey, I was growing up with Origin Systems productions, so it's normal I'm always looking for such things in games. :D

Also great animation, man. :) Really digging that parallax scrolling

I think I have seen that one before. It was a game my son used to like about 15-20 years ago. not sure when it came out but it was Pink Panther Hokus Pokus?

You got it man, it's Hocus Pocus Pink. :D (aka Hocus Pocus Pink Panther)
It was released in 1997, although some countries received it much later (2000 in Poland, for example). I loved this little adventure game as a kid!

Your turn, dayowlron. ;)
