QuoteOK, Count me in...

The usual table Mr Slasher?

That's a good start. Aseprite got a lot of praise on the AGS forums recently.

QuoteWeird...that's exactly the reason why I wanted to join. To prove to everyone (and mostly myself), that my character-designs (albeit with some minor tweaks) would work in a game.

Let me rephrase: I also think that most sprites produced in the jams would work great in a game. However, many weren't thought from the ground up to be animated. For instance:
- this one has too many patterns and colors to be easily animated
- this one should have been cut into different pieces from the start to be conveniently animated in a bone rigging software.

QuoteThat's also why I chose to do a walk-cycle. It's not the most original thing in animation...but it's the most fundamental animation in the world of point-and-click.
True. Inserted in a background, it already looks like a point & click.

Nice graphics. I was surprised to hear a french theme song. Before reading the presentation, I assumed the hero was spanish since he looks a bit like Zorro and the game is developed in Spain.

Impressive 3D effect. It's blurry but I guess you had to deal with AGS limitations. It's kinda pretty nonetheless.

About the game itself:
Spoiler
I didn't have too much trouble following the instructions. I reached a bad ending and didn't retry because I didn't know if Julia could be saved, since you said that you cut a lot of the game.

QuoteSticking to the original rule-set...because I think it was a great and challenging idea, that should not have been let go.

Thanks Misj'. I liked this idea too but after 9 days without replies, I could see a number of reasons why this jam would have flopped:
-   animations take a lot of time to make. With a restrictive topic on top, it can be dissuasive.
-   the sprites of previous jams were created with a contest in mind and may not be very suitable for animation.
-   those who don't have a sprite of their own may not feel like animating someone else's work.

QuoteI specifically chose him, because of his asymmetrical character-design.
That's exactly why I wouldn't have picked him. Lazy me :P

QuoteI went back to a character from 2015: the Baron from Villains, bosses and henchmen.
Initimidating. He fits in perfectly with the theme. By planting his stick every two steps, he gives me the impression that it's more used to hit people than to walk.

QuoteNo, I mean, have you installed new editor into a new folder, or on top of previously existing editor's installation?
I don't know if it's still relevant but the new editor is into a new folder.

QuoteIf I rebuild all files, it seems to be ok.
I can compile the game just fine but it doesn't solve the problem for me.
#387
I have AGS 3.5.0 installed yes. And the game works fine with it.
#388
It's amazing how much hard work you put into this...

I can launch my game but when I run a test I get the following error message:

QuoteERROR: Unable to determine game data.
Engine was not able to find any compatible game data.
Searched in: d:/Marc/ Brothers & Wreckers/Speech

There's no speech in the game so this folder is empty.

QuoteFor a long time I had this idea of a wordless game, with small characters and lots of animations, that would look something like this.

It's very fluid. Do you picture it as a platformer that would be played with a gamepad or a point and click?

Entered April 2021 on the DeLorean keypad. Thank you Heltenjon

Wow, it's long. I love how the stick fills up with colors.

Nice. Let's dance together [imgzoom]https://i.imgur.com/9fmfLGY.gif[/imgzoom]

Without colors and at this resolution, it's hard to form an opinion.

Sarlacc pit in front of stairs?

QuoteReading all of this makes me think it might be interesting to create a new thread, probably in the Rumpus Room, where people can post about "the lost projects". I have at least a dozen projects of my own that reached various stages of prototyping and documentation, but died out, or have been on hold for years and years. I might make one over the coming week, to see if people are interested, unless someone beats me to it.

I'd like to see the release something thread come back. I bet we all have unrealized deas.

QuoteHaving said that, I've recently been making some long overdue progress on a project, and it feels SO good!
(nod) Sometimes, I still toy with old projects that have been baking for years.

I work on a computer all day long so my eyes won't allow me long sessions in the evening.

Another jam in perdition.

Let's allow any animation as long as it's been made this month.

Well done Arj0n.

Superb trophies.

Thanks Cassie and Sinitrena for the votes and Misj' for the little reminder. I've had other things on my mind lately.

QuoteCreamy's Elephunk - What an elegant creature. I like how it almost looks like it is bowing, or maybe curtseying (or something in between) and the colours look great.

QuoteCreamy's Fancy a Shrimp - Interesting creature, though I can't say exactly what it is. A kind of dog? The ears make me think so, but the tooth (that's a tooth, right?) looks more like one of a walrus.

It's supposed to be the same character. He swims to you in the 1st pic and gives you a shrimp in the 2nd.
I realize that it's totally unclear - notably because he has no ears in the 1st pic and gets a hat in the 2nd. Plus, the colors change. Whatever (laugh)

1st: arj0n
Cute creature. The black nostrils may be a little misleading. I took them for eyes at first.

2nd: Sinitrena
I like the hair.

SPRITE JAM: ANIMATION

Dozens Thousands of characters have been created in the sprite jams over the years.
Yet they remain immobile assets of fictional games that we're left to imagine.

For this jam, I'd like to see some ACTION.

It can be a simple speech view, a complex walkcycle, or whatever comes to your mind.

Preferably, take one of your previous sprite jam creations and make it come to life.

Never entered a sprite jam before? You can find a sprite to animate in the Treasure Trove or the Reality-on-the-Norm ressources.

You'll only be judged on the appeal of your animation, not the chara-design.

Deadline: April 1st.

Move it now!

EDIT: any animation made this month is allowed.

#400
Well, the deadline has passed  :(

Thanks for your entry Sinitrena. The Blitz is yours. I hope you'll get more participation next time.
