The Rumpus Room / Re: What grinds my gears!

QuoteExactly, most millennials couldn't care less if a YouTuber says the F-word, but advertisers are terrified they'd get associated with something that could get the Midwestern US christian moms into a moral panic

Sometimes, the creators themselves resort to self-censorship out of fear.

Apparently, that's what's happening with Commandos 2 HD remastered. I find it sad when a company claiming to make a game set in World War II decides to remove any symbols, portraits, speeches or other assets that could break the law in many countries - namely anything that connects it to reality.

Since no law could force them to remove the japanese flags, they seem to be more royalist than the king.

QuoteWoaM has been nominated in SIX categories in the annual Aggie Awards! :-D

    Best Story
    Best Writing (Drama)
    Best Gameplay
    Best Concept
    Best Acting
    Best Traditional Adventure

Fingers crossed.

I finished the game this evening and enjoyed it very much.
Good looking, thought provoking and original. Just how I like my Clifftop and Faravid games

Footnote: I've played most of the game without noticing how different some puzzles could have been.
Only when I browsed a walkthrough did I realize the amount of work that went into it.

So many details with so few pixels  :)

Thanks for your kind words splat44 and avensis. The game is far from perfect but I still like it.

Spoiler
QuoteYou mention something about starting with river but due to darkness of room, it was impossible locating.
My bad. The river is on the top-left corner but cannot easily be seen in game.

I finished your demo.

Spoiler
I found it original and well-written
It wasn't too difficult overall. The fact that you're often confined to a couple of rooms helps IMO. The graphics were crafted with care.

The game is linear. I have no problem with that when it's done right â€"and for the most part it is â€" but the beginning felt slow to me. Some examples:
- finding your own stuff.
- you need a specific mug, a specific coin...

As things speed up and you do what cops are supposed to do, it gets more interesting. I like the whole investigation.

Please consider adding a save feature and the default option menu. I wish I could have increased the walk speed of the main character.
The points chime was a little intrusive. It even plays when you make the last discovery  :-X

It's technically polished. I only encountered one minor bug: the score disappeared when I was about 50 points.

Good luck with the sequel.

Spoiler
The walking wolf doesn't fall asleep. Only the two others do. Just wait for them to take a nap and pass.

You need to start with the wolf near the river.

The double click only lets you go to another room quickly (doesn't make you run or anything else).

Hi Splat44,

About chapter2 :

Spoiler
Because of some justified complaints, I've simplified this puzzle.
You can't use the spiced meat anymore. Now, it's a timed puzzle. Just wait for the wolves to fall asleep and pass.

Quotereaching Litith at end zone
I changed her name too. Someone mentioned that Lizaigne and Lilith sounded too similar.

I didn't know him well but I loved his games. He seemed very nice.

The extended version of the game is now available HERE

It was done last year but I only fixed the last known bugs recently.

As promised, it features:
- a new final chapter with puzzles, cutscenes and another playable character.
- some new tracks by Eleusis.
- game upgraded to AGS 3.4.

I only made some minor changes to the first part. If you finished the original game and would like to go directly to the new chapter, here's a shortcut:

The new website is nice.

Can't wait for the demo.

About B&W:
Somehow, I knew that the broken signpost puzzle wasn't completely original and I've racked my brains to figure out where it came from.
It turns out that it was lifted from Jim Razzi's  Sherluck Bones Mystery Detective Book.
You can call me Gad Elmaleh now.

I've finished chapter 1. Quite gritty.

I'm not sold on the graphics but I'm curious to see where it's going.

I like the blend of different gameplays too.

Thanks Cassie.

Spoiler
QuoteYou were suppose to listen to the music, and figure out by the name of the music tracks to which directions they pointed to. Then rotate the sign to match.

We've tried to use popular songs. You only need to recognize one place to be able to solve the puzzle. Yet, making puzzles that require outside knowledge from the player is always risky.

Another way to decipher the signpost is to know Antillean Creole   :-D

Sorry, I think you misread my question. I was reacting to this comment you made about Brothers & Wreckers:
Quotethe puzzles were random

I know for a fact that you like history  :)
#578
Blondbraid, do you mean that you would have prefered our game to be more believable historically, less tongue in cheek?
The puzzles themselves have a logic IMO.

Dear SantaFish,

May I get your Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered copy? I've heard many good and bad things about this game so I'd like to try it for myself.

Yours truly
