VW, the game crashes when I push the red button:

Quotein room 9, line 34
Error: MoveCharacter: character not in current room

Nice game. You got me hooked.

Yet I had to stop because of a bug:
Spoiler
When I was in the bunker, I clicked on the right side of the screen and was able to pass through the door and exit the room. It breaks the game since she refuses to get back in. Plus I cannot talk to the characters anymore.

Don't know if this is a bug:
Spoiler
I read the paper about the prank safe box and how to open it. But she refuses to poke it as instructed.

Don't know about the answer, but I noticed this in the first sentence:

Judith married Stephen and they named their firstborn Mary.
=Just married

I love the expressive closeups.

Let's hope that something happens  :P

Thanks guys!

QuoteYour games are always very stylish
Kastchey deserves praise here  :)

QuoteThe constant threat of death keeps a feeling of tension, without becoming frustrating.
I'm glad you felt this way. There's a fine line between tension and frustration and it's hard to assess when you cross it. The short length probably helps.

SUSPICIOUS MIND

You're trapped with an amnesic psychopath.
Can you fool his suspicious mind?

GAME PAGE

WARNING: contains bad language

Kastchey and I conceived this game for the MAGS competition March 2019 on the theme "glass of water".

It was done in half a month. Many things were lacking or unpolished.

Therefore, the game is updated to provide a better experience:
- added animations.
- removed many bugs.
- fixed the timers.
- reworked the difficulty.
- better indications.
- french translation.

The plot is left unchanged.

Good luck!

Man n fist, I love how you balance Pulp with Emperor in your last two posts. It's quite a leap

QuoteBaldur's Gate.

I've replayed that game several times thorughout the years and it's fed back into my love of D&D all these years. The magic items in that game are some of my absolute favorite bits of game play.
I didn't play many RPG but I got completely drawn into Baldur's Gate I and II. It made me quit Diablo II   :-D

Apparently, you didn't get the good ending any more than I, Selmiak  :P

Finished it a few days ago. Nice game  :)

"Cedric and the revolution" was a funny fantasy.
"Reactor 09" was a well-rounded SF thriller.
This one is something else, a touching search for your boyfriend closer to the Blackwell series or Kathy Rain.
But still with Bernie's fine sense of humour.

The puzzles are fair too.

QuoteI feel like it should be possible to make a game about cheese rolling...
The first time I heard about it, I thought it was a joke.

There are suspended fries near my place. I only discovered it recently.

Another one : the Ma'nene ritual of cleaning corpses in Indonesia.

I agree about the rain.
I tend to fall asleep faster when it's raining outside.

Opening a pop-up book.

Glasses up to Retrowolf!

Hi Ars Creativa,

Some more input on the demo:
Spoiler
I found the art gorgeous, the animations nice and and the dialogs amusing.

The only puzzle was far-fetched IMO.
Why can't you simply shoot the regulator? Why does an overload work better? And now, she has no more weapon to fight the bad guys.

Other minor annoyances:
- the font is too big.
- the communicator controls, as pointed above.

Best wishes on your intergalactic journey  :)

QuoteOkay, that (the last clue) helped (barely)...  (roll)
think the problem is that we're used to be "frozen" when in speech mode. That we don't even think about many of the options.

You're absolutely right. We even talked about adding some sort of hint to the player that they can move around during dialogues, but as with many other stuff, there was no time.
I think many solutions would have been a bit more obvious if we had time for more visualizations and polish, most prominently that last puzzle with the entry team bursting in, but this will need to wait for a post-MAGS release :)

Yes, that was one of the ideas behind the game. That's why we had the characters speak in the background and put many interactive hotspots at the beginning.
Maybe we should be more direct about it and simply write an explanatory text first, like Retrowolf did in his game.
"in this game you can - and sometimes you must - act during dialogs".

For the last dialog, given more time I think we'd have added feedback after each attempt. Something like "Jack made a spectacular entrance into the room but he couldn't see the kidnapper and missed him with his stun grenade. The kidnapper killed you the next moment"

Quotegood job, eve if slightly too frustrating. Also the save game might not help, if you pick the wrong option at the start.  (roll)
Thanks Cassie. We may try to balance it later.

About the other games:

Flukie
Spoiler
The dialog is funny but the search for Flukie is extremely short.
I like the character art. Flukie's brother reminded me of the imp from Quest for Yrolg.

Hydrate
Spoiler
Another treat from Retrowolf. Nice graphics and fair puzzles.
The dialogs and names are silly and hilarious.

The GUI is rather unusual but works perfectly well. I guess this could work on a tablet.

I understand it too and I always meant to add it.

I don't want be unfair to the other contestants but I don't want to annoy the players either.

On the game page, the mirror link now takes you to a post MAGS version. Click on the floppy disk in the lower right corner to save.
#639
QuoteMm.. Possibly.. you don't? I made GUI elements for loading, but I'm not sure if Creamy had a chance to add the script.
We had a tight time budget

Exactly. I've coded the load button but not the save one.
The closure was really hectic. That's the charm of MAGS competitions  (laugh)

Here you go:

It's untested and probably buggy as hell but finishable.
