That's good to hear.

Somebody tell him to check out his thread. It's a whopping 5 pages long these days.

So, some may remember my 'Attic' where I tried my new style. I've made another one.
Attic

Things to know before C&C:
- It exists in real life.
- Yes it will have furniture.
- No the floor isn't finished.

General Discussion / Is FruitTree doing OK?
Fri 01/08/2003 15:08:50
I was checking out the Dutch thread - which FruitTree started - again, and noticed how the people who started it aren't replying at all.
So I happened to check out the last posts by FruitTree which were quite a while ago and not very uplifting, to say the least.

Does anyone know how he's doing these days?

I'm not worried or anything, that would be gay (in a non-derogatory, politically correct sense). Besides, I hardly know the guy. Really, I'm not.

Really.

So anyone?

Another thing, how the hell are we supposed to get our hands on full, old games in TEH NETEHRLANDS. Illegal downloading is not an option for me. Not out of principles ;), but because I want the talkie versions.

Reply within this thread OR on the site that somebody is building for us. Who is that...... :)

Gave sprieten! ;)

But seriously cool sprites. They actually look pretty professional. I could also help out with the translation, but I'm sure the two of you can handle it.
I've been pretty anxious to play a few more games in Dutch, the one I'm working on won't be finished for years and years.

Edit:

Basically I said I liked it...

Change the font you used for 'Tavern', it's too generic.
Especially if this is for your medieval time travelling game.

Typing in "medieval fonts" in Google led me to this: http://www.flatearth.com/forum/links_showsub.asp?cat_id=2&cat=Fantasy+and+Medieval+Fonts

I don't like his circular arm holding the broom (or turd for some people), I'd give him an elbow.

That's your answer for everything!

Anyway, ever heard of the German movie "Funny Games"? Pretty good, violent though (my taste), but very low-budget.
Spielberg's breakthrough "Duel" couldn't have cost much either I think.
Perharps something play-like, that you could film in a single room. I'm thinking about "12 Angry Men" or "Death And The Maiden".
If you're not familiar with these titles, check 'em out at IMDB.

Sounds like a good compromise. But is there actually anything being done with this? N3tgraph?
#71
Sounds a bit like Discworld and a bit like Army of Darkness...

I like both.

The drawers don't follow the perspective of the cabinet. Compare for instance the bottom line of the bottom drawer with the bottom line of the cabinet below it.

Just mentioning Dr. Sbaitso brings back so many fond memories.

And more on-topic, great initiative. Very legible layout and such. How much? Such much!

Aaaah!!!!!!

That link was pop-up hell!  >:(

My two eurocents:

I think the Greek guys have the idea down pretty much. See the GAC homepage, you'll have to find the link yourself.

A Dutch homepage could accomplish the following:

1) Gather all games of Dutch and Belgian origin with reviews, walkthroughs, download links et cetera to show the world some Dutch craftsmanship. :)

2) Create a forum where Dutch and Belgians can talk (ouwehoeren) and help each other out AGS-wise in their native language. Sidenote: many here are quite comfortable with English, but think how many people aren't yet share the same passion for adventure games?

3) Create a forum to unite all Dutch-speaking fans of the good old adventure games by Sierra, Lucasarts and so on.

4)You think of some more good uses...

And Hueij, thanks for the compliment and you're right we should get serious about it, but please, nobody stop making jokes!

I'm going on vacation soon, so I'm not here to help get something off the ground, but seeing as this thread is getting pretty ancient, I'll guess by the time I'm back there's plenty to do. :)

Ah, my kind of thread!

An obvious choice would be Hitchcock:
I recommend 'North by Northwest', 'Rear Window' and 'Vertigo',
but ofcourse all his movies are interesting.

The ever brilliant Kurosawa epic:
'Shichinin no samurai' or better known as 'The Seven Samurai'

The groundbreaking movie:
'Birth of a Nation'

The still very original and well told:
'Citizen Kane'
or the other Orson Welles classic, which also features groundbreaking story-telling and photography:
'Touch of Evil'

Some of Frank Capra's work for example:
'Mr. Smith goes to Washington'
'It Happened One Night'

Frederico Fellini's work like:
'8 1/2'
'La Dolce Vita'

The controversial, though not really a movie:
'Triumph des Willens' by Leni Riefenstahl
She was decades ahead of the movie industry!

The Hollywood epics arose, as did Charlton Heston:
'Ben Hur' is still a rousing epic
'El Cid' has some luscious production design
'The Ten Commandments' heralded the SFX blockbusters.

No list is complete with some early Kubrick:
'Spartacus' goes well with the aforementioned 'Ben Hur'
'2001' is still one of a kind!

The classic 'Casablanca', the Hollywood formula to perfection.
While 'Gone with the Wind' is the opitomy of Hollywood decadent filmmaking.

See young Marlon Brando in 'On The Waterfront' and 'A Streetcar Named Desire'

Charlie Chaplin's greates, intellectual but still funny: 'Modern Times'

One of very few WWI pictures, made before the Second: 'All Quiet On The Western Front'

The visionary 'Metropolis' by Fritz Lang which might offer some inspiration for an adventure game.

That's all my brain can think of right now, but there's an endless supply of excellent movies out there. It's just they're so hard to find sometimes...

I thought it needed a 'muis'.
