This is the image

& this is the image in AGS.....in .PNG or BMP, & in 16 or 32 colour

I use Paint Shop Pro 8, put it in .png format & using AGS 2.7

I'll upload an in-game screen shot when I get off work tonight.

I had my game set to 16-bit colour, & imported an image that has 254 colours.  It said the image has more colours than are allocated to backgrounds.  The image was imported, but it looked as if it were missing, like, 10 colours?!?  Whatever, I switched the game to 32-bit, & I got the same message....with the same problem.

On 16-bit, (Definitely on 32-bit) I should be able to have 254-colour backgrounds.

.....What the Hell am I doing Wrong??

I'd love to spend money on an AGS game, but the quality of the free titles amost always outshine the commercial ones.  How can I buy Mystery Manor when I can get No Action Jackson for free?

Wasn't 2005 supposed to be the YEAR OF AGS or something?  I know I'm part of the problem pushing back Police Quest......Sorry.

Still waiting on Shadowplay...& Rise of The Hidden Sun....& Star Wars....& Lagoon - all from, like 1,000 years ago.

Waiting on King's Quest 3, but Beta-5 makes it sound like it's almost done; so that makes that a lot easier.

New stuff like Amulet of kings gets me exited about 2008.

Oh!  When are we going to see the return of Britton O'Toole of No Action Jackson - The undesputed king of the LucasArts style? :'(

....Anyway, It will be exciting to see what AGDI can do now that they don't have to MIMIC an art style.  The new stuff looks a lot more stylistic than their previous works.

P.S. - Any clues as to how the GUI will work?

Given the recent questions involving the game, I've updated the post to answer some of the inquiries that have come of late.

P.S......& a New Screenshot!!

There's been request as to the status of the game; so I've added a status report.  I didn't do anything revolutionary, but if someone wants to know how far along I am; this will keep them updated.

No, I don't see any way to make it by Christmas.

That is still my number 1 priority, but things aren't moving fast enough....sorry

The website will go public very soon.  Don't worry, I'd be pretty stupid to abandon a project of this magnitude 75% through it.  I don't think anyone should tackle a Sierra remake if there's any question whether or not they'll finish it.

Thanks for all your support!!

Page 6 is starting is starting to look like Pages 2-4.

....Thanks for your concern, but I'm keeping the Hijacking scene.  This topic was covered a few months back.  I took a poll to see if it should stay or not; for awhile it was a concern.

I know a guy at work who just got his shiny new GP2X, (gamepark 2), a couple of days ago.  Yesterday, at work, he was showing it off.  I must say, it's fantastic!!  He was showing how well it was handling Maniac Mansion Deluxe using the AGS Linux player!

I don't know if this ushers in a new age for AGS games or not, but it sure was cool. 8)

Just keep it simple....

Police Quest Academy

The game will be cool or it won't.  Don't worry so much on an awesome title.  You don't want to jinx it.  All those titles called something like Neon Cyber Techno-Quest 0.VGA +Alpha & a Bag'o'Spagetti always suck!!

Good Luck

Swat_pup - Unless you like 3D, you're going to have to find your own style.  I can't really help with 2D from a tutorial perspective, but thanks for the 'props.  Of course I have the scuba scene.  It's one of the most important scenes in the game.

ildu -  I should take that as a compliment.  That is a 3D-rendered character.  Using 3D characters allows for very fast sprite turn-around, (since I'm the only one working on the game).  Don't worry, when the characters are in place, they will fit fine.

Afflict - I'm, actuallly, making more of a 1:1 remake than I was when I started, (a lot of comments here settled that).  I'm not removing anything anymore, but I am expanding a few scenes & adding one, (so far).  I'm hard at work on Day-2, but there's always room for improvements.  To, specifically, answer your question, all of the shoot-outs remain & are in place.

I saved everything....so it's fine.

Police Quest is back on track.  I'm just behind.  I've just finished all the background work for day one.  Which is, as some of you may remember, the lion's-share of the development.

.....it's in the home stretch, thanks for all the support.

The only problem I see is that the light, (although very, very good), doesn't fit with the sky.  It looks as though it's in a movie studio.

By the way, how did you rig your lighting - it looks like Global Illumination.

My computer crashed, & the techs at work say they can't recover most save files.  My wife plays the Moment of Silence; so I was hoping someone had the game & a save file relatively close to where your character gets on the blimp for the first time.

It's has been awhile.

Well, I said barring injury.......

That's the worst thing you can say.  In semptember my daughter had a concusion.  We had to spend some time in the hospital.  During that time, our car broke down & I had to bus to work, (& later my daughter to school).  This put me about a month behind schedule.  I figured that if I just work faster maybe I could get close to the release date I had set.

However, about a 2 weeks into furious labor, my hard-drive completely crashed.  As I had only half the files backed up, I thought I was finished for awhile.  Fortunately, my job offers a lot a resources, & the techs at work have a machine that can extract data from a bad drive.  This is, by no means, a fast process, & the I won't get it for a few days.

By this point, there's no way I can hit the December date I set.  I will give an update as soon as I have it, & the game will be completed!  It won't take 3 years, (I'd be suprised if it took one year), but it will take a little longer than expected.

....Sorry...just a little longer.  It will be worth it!!

Hey techies!

Does anyone know of a software-only way of opening up a patch bank file to retrieve the MIDI sound effects treasures it hides.  I really don't want to go out and buy one of those MT-32....(or whatever) thingy's.

It looks like most people prefer the bomb puzzle; so I'm keeping it in.  Although I agree with Garage Gothic, (as it is ridiculous & completely detracts from the actual game at hand), & I believe he could've almost single-handedly convinced people to remove it.

It also appears as if I've misjudged people in believing the terrorist actions of present-day would have an impact on how they feel regarding the events in the game.

However, this is a nostalgia piece, & although my own idea is to capture the feeling I had playing Police Quest 3; most others would like to re-capture the feelings they had playing the original Police Quest 2.  It seems that without it; these feelings would be lost.

I'd be lying if I said I was only making this game for me.  It's impossible not to follow the majority of suggestions.

That part of the game hasn't been finalized yet.  I had always considered that after 9/11 most Americans would be uncomfortable with the scene.

If possible, could some of the people on these forums P.M. me a Yay or Nay to that puzzle.  It would give a better idea.
