Hi all,

There's a problem with sylpher.com so i can't upload any files to it.

Not only that, i'm leaving for New Year's Eve.

Looks like you'll have to wait an extra day till you can vote.

See you on the 2/1/2004

Cheers!

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

Also, make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen -- If it does, I will delete it.

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "Other Easter Eggs in AGS"

CJ has been a very sneaky boy, putting in secret Christmas messages into AGS.

Let's see if we can find some more.

For example, if you enter a secret code, you find this well-requested feature:

Hop to it!

Hi there,

I took the GhostGR's layout and redesigned the website.

Take a look and tell me what you think:

General Discussion / Carl Spackler for Oscar!
Mon 22/12/2003 20:21:41

So far, www.oscarwatch.com is picking Bill Murray for Best Actor in the film Lost In Translation.

I haven't seen the film, but I'm hanging out for it -- From what I've seen and heard, it looks like the kinda film I'd appreciate.

Good luck to Mr Murray -- I've always loved his work, even his shitty films like that Charlie's Angels P-O-S.

However, Murray's got stiff competition from Jeff Spicoli in Mystic River.

And not to mention Shirty The Slightly Agressive Bear in Master and Commander

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "If forum names were true..."

This one is a bit difficult, but should be a load of fun.

Simply create an image of any forum member where their nickname becomes true to the max.

For example, what if Shawn Guzzo really became roadkill:

Eww!

Anyway, maybe you can come up with something more tasteful!

Then again, MAYBE YOU CAN'T!

Thanks to SSH for his suggestion of this week's topic.

General Discussion / LOTR: Return of the King
Thu 18/12/2003 03:55:27
Okay, it hasn't been released yet in a lot of places but I figure there's going to be a post on it so I might as well start one.

Have you seen it, and what did you think (spoilers hidden of course)?

If you haven't seen it, what are your expectations?

Do you think it'll live up to the buzz and hype he critics are giving it?

98% on RottenTomatoes.com so far - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/TheLordoftheRingsTheReturnoftheKing-1127213/

95% on Metacritic so far - http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/returnoftheking/

And what did you think about Christopher Lee being cut from the film?

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

Very simple this week -- Christmasfy adventure games.

I'm not just talking about adding a pissy red hat to the main character or adding a tree with presents -- I'm talking about thinking outside the box (forgive the pun).

For example, have Jimmy Stewart running down the streets of Rubacava shouting "MERRRRRY CHRISTMAS AUTOMAT!!!!"

Noel, suckers!

Okie dokie!

I've written down 'almost' every game from 2003 for the AGS Awards:
http://www.sylpher.com/DGMacphee/list.htm

I say 'almost' for two reasons:
1) I may have missed other AGS Games and Demos released from 1 Jan 2003 to 9 Dec 2003 -- If I missed yours, please note down the name of the game, the type of game (Full, Demo, or Non-Adventure), and a link to the zip file.
2) I still have to list the games from 9 Dec 2003 to 31 December -- If you are about to release a game before 31 Dec 2003, just simply list it in the Announcement forum (Don't worry -- I'll note it down!)

Please note that games from previous years are obviously not eligible for the 2003 Awards -- Please check these pages if you are unsure if your game has been included in past years:
http://www.sylpher.com/DGMacphee/list2001.htm
http://www.sylpher.com/DGMacphee/list2002.htm

If everything is sweet, we can press on with the awards.

EDIT: If there's any mistakes on the list, please tell me.

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "If Popstars Made Adventures..."

This one is kinda tricky -- recreate game as if it were inspired by Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson (heaven forbid!), or any other creator of such disposable music.

SO JUST BEAT IT!

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "OMG FURRY!!1!"

This one is a little advanced -- Simply construct a combination of an AGS user and an animal to create a FURRY FAN!1!! OMGLOLWTF!!!!

Fur exmaple (LOL I MADE A FUNNY!), this pic of an Ericdog:

Who's a good boy?!

Yes, you are!

YES, YOU ARE!!!

SHMOOGIE WIDDLE POOCHIE POO!!

Ahem...

Anyway, get to work!

Hey all,

Here's the work I've done on the new AGS Awards website -- one more easy to manage and to build upon:

http://www.sylpher.com/AGSAwards

I've still got to do voting information (i.e. registered game lists, voting pages, etc) but this is pretty much how the site works.

Also, I need someone who has web-based programming knowledge, because I need voting pages for nominations and winners.

If anyone would like to help me with this, I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks,
DG

EDIT: Also, please tell me if you see any mistakes.

Sorry, but no PP this week cause I took an improvised emergency holiday.

It was a choice between: a) spending time with my girlfriend, eating seafood, going to the beach, and reading a Nick Hornby novel, or b) doing a Photoshop Phriday.

The choice was obvious.

If you have any complaints, STIFF SHIT!! HAHAHAHAHA!! PWND! ;D

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "Business Cards"

Very simple -- Make a business card for any adventure game character (AGS or commercial).

E.g.

My mum has a thing for older DVDs -- the kind you can get for five bucks in a discount bins.

Sometimes she gets some very strange crap (The Catwomen from Mars) but sometimes she find some classics.

For example, she recently bought Chaplin's Limelight and La Cava's My Man Godfrey.

It made me think about my favourite classic B&W movies and was wondering what everyone else liked in terms of B&W.

So, my favs:

I'm a big Jimmy Stewart fan and my fav of his would have to be Harvey -- I also like Mr Smith goes to Washington, It's a Wonderful Life (MEEEERRY CHRISTMAS!!!), The Philadelphia Story, Vertigo, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

I'm not a huge Hitchcock fan, but I liked Strangers On A Train a lot.

Akira Kurosawa films (then again, a lot of people like him) -- Especially Rashomon, Seven Samurai, and Yojimbo.

I was a big fan of Chaplin in high school (Granted, Keaton's films were better directed, but Chaplin was funnier IMO) -- I like his shorts, but his full length films are great too, like Modern Times (However, I still haven't seen The Great Dictator, which I must find sometime soon!)

Zobra the Greek -- I dig Anthony Quinn.

Grapes of Wrath -- Then again, I like Steinbeck in general.

On The Waterfront

Casablanca

Angels With Dirty Faces and Yankee Doodle Dandy -- Two very different Cagney roles and both are done superbly, which shows the mastery of the man.

Scarface (the original, obviously)

The Defiant Ones

The Man With The Golden Arm

Citizen Kane

Sabrina (The early Bogart/Hepburn one, obviously)

The Life of Emile Zola

The Apartment

Sullivan's Travels

Some like It Hot

and many others...

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "Real Life Puzzles"

This one is a little more advanced than previous ones.

Simply photoshop two or more real life images to make a replica of a famous adventure game puzzle/scene.

For example:

Also, don't tell which puzzle/scene it is -- See if people can guess it.

If you guess, make sure you *hide* your answer.

Special thanks to Esseb for this idea!

General Discussion / Kill Bill
Mon 20/10/2003 02:53:18
When I saw the Matrix Reloaded, there was one scene I really liked, which was the fight between Neo and all the Agent Smiths -- The rest of the movie was a bit of a yawn.

Anyway, I saw Kill Bill last night, and the fight between Uma and the Crazy 88 gang shat all over the Wachowskis' pissy fight scenes.

This movie was cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet.
