Oh I agree, it is a part of nature and it's surprising. And I do see your point that in some cases, things happen outside the norm. But in this case, I feel it's a little different.

Consider this: why did terrorists crash planes into the WTC? What were their reasons? I'm sure terrorists don't attack without reason. I'm sure it was reactionary to something. Same can be said about a many number of instances, such as the Madrid bombing or the recent beheading. All were reactionary and with some reasoning (granted, not the best reasoning, but reasoning, nevertheless). And in the same light, the Bush administration has also retaliated in similar ways. It's like each side is trying to one-up the other.

Amidst all the brutality and horror of war, I can still laugh about it all:

If it's a waste of time, why are you posting in it?

Surprsingly enough, I have to say that this isn't much different from what the Americans did to the Iraqis, and thus, as shocking as it is, it is hypocrisy to call it sub-human.

Unlike what those fucking Hammas dogs did to the remains of six Israeli soldiers today. Fucking sub-human apes. I hope there's already a rocket with their name on it.

FACT 1: Calling the Iraqi beheading a "sub-human" action is hypocrisy.

FACT 2: Labelling Hamas' actions as "sub-human" is not a hypocrisy.

FACT 3: To simultaniously believe the above two facts is the real hypocrisy.

Let's be realistic here: you can't say one thing is a hypocrisy and then say a similar situation is not.

It's like saying "You're drinking alcohol?? That shit is bad for you! Don't touch alcohol, man, whatever you do because it's addictive and will kill you! And if you believe it's not addictive, then you're a hypocrite in denial! (pause) Man, I need a smoke!"

As for the beheading, there's a lesson to be learnt and IMO it's this: for every bad thing that happens in a war, another bad thing will happen as an opposite reaction, only a little more extreme. Then another opposite reaction happens, then another, then another, until we're so far ahead of what happened with the violence and the carnage that we don't know where we started. We end up losing everything that made us innocent in the first place (and by this, I'm talking about both sides of the war).

Neither side wants to break the cycle, which is why I think we should learn to not take part in it. Bush once said, "You're either for us or against us." Bullshit! I'm not for your stinking, scumbucket, shitstain government as much as I'm not for the stinking, scumbucket, shitstain ideology of Iraqi rebels. Go fight you're own war without me. Go ahead, and accuse me of sitting on the fence, Mr Bush, cause I will sit here happily and condemn both sides of this war. Go fight your own fight.

This whole thing started with September 11 and now it has nothing to do with September 11 anymore.

Hopefully.  :)

Meanwhile...

Edit: The FBI just issued a warrant for my arrest. Sorry, Mrs Kerry. I didn't mean anything personal by it.

I don't think if he had the same cultural effect as Cobain, but he was a great singer (if not a better singer than Kurt).

One artist I've heard recently is Mark Farina. He's a DJ. I've never been a fan of dance music, but I heard one of Farina's songs (Dream Machine) recenlty and thought it was one of the most beatiful songs that touched my eardrums.

People know of him but haven't heard any of his stuff. Even my Dad, who is a bit of a dance afficionado, hasn't heard much about him.

So, yeah, I'd class him as underrated.

I think that Moore's perspective is one that is grounded in some reality though. Although he may bend statistics, we can agree that the film has some basis of fact in it. For example, the demonising of Marilyn Manson as myth.

And likewise, I do think Moore leaves a lot out of his film, if only to prove his point. His portrayal of Heston as a right-wing gun maniac is a little unfair, especially when you consider Heston fought for racial equality in the 60s.

However, if you call Moore's film biased, you should go back over every single doco is Oscar history, because a lot of them are biased. Take one of my favourites, The Panama Deception. It's a brilliant doco, but it's biased. Having said that, it was not very possible to present a balanced picture of the Panama conflict when the situation itself was atrocious.

Likewise with Moore. And the thing with balance is that it works on a global scale. Granted, Moore's films and books are biased. However, the Bush administration is biased too. Both views act as a balance to each other.

It's pretty much how the world works in a ying and yang like way.

QuoteAGS has always held an "Underground" persona (weither true or not in reality) but is it starting to feel like we are digging up too close to the surface? Is this really going to be the end of an era?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising the current state of the community. It's just different, not better or worse. The old era has ended a little, especially with the departure of a lot of good gamemakers. They've moved on. It's sad. But I also think there's a new era happening right now -- a new generation of gamemakers. But I think only a handful of "oldies" will be actively involved in this.

Like I say, it's not a bad thing that the old era is over. It just means the times are a-changing.

The thing I don't get is that a lot of documentaries use manipulated statistics. I don't see why people should suddenly criticise Moore when it's been done countless times in the past.

I didn't really like any other them, cause they were locked for one of the following reasons:

a) they were stupid
b) they turned into a flame-war
c) they were locked cause of me  ;D

I like Updike, but he's only good if you like heavy description -- I've found he focuses more on that than the momentum of the story.

I do like the Vonnegut I've read, which was based on your recommendation.

I'm now reading a book about rock & roll history called Night Beat by Rolling Stone writer Mikal Gilmore.

He is a great writer and captures the essence of what made people like Elvis, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, etc so great.

Kinoko, have you tried UAE?

It's probably the best Amiga emulator out there.
