Aye, Stewart is being hypocritical. I'm also at-odds with his claim because demonising such films is like blaming Marilyn Manson for the Columbine shooting. I tend to think that the genesis of masculine and feminine violence lies in our perception during childhood and adolescence. Even if Kill Bill perpetrates such stereotypes (which I fail to see since it portrays the bride as reverse-misogynistic character i.e. she's out to "Kill Bill", so it seem atypical), condemning the film does nothing to curb violence in society.

Yeap, I know those warehouse ads very well -- I like how they say their sale ends on Sunday night, and then they extend it to Monday night (and then the extend it to Tuesday night, then to next week, etc, etc).

Few things to note:

Timmy, believe it or not, Carradine wasn't QT's first choice to play Bill. Originally he was going to get Warren Beatty to play him. But it was Beatty who said he wasn't right for the role and suggested Carradine. QT agreed as soon as he suggested it.

Barcik, although I haven't seen it yet, I think yes, it would be as cool (if not greater) if it were a whole instead of two parts. As Roger Ebert said in his review: "Put the two parts together, and Tarantino has made a masterful saga that celebrates the martial arts genre while kidding it, loving it, and transcending it. I confess I feared that "Vol. 2" would be like those sequels that lack the intensity of the original. But this is all one film, and now that we see it whole, it's greater than its two parts."

Not only that, but we had to wait several months for it too.

Take that back.

The purpose behind puzzles is to add a barrier between the player and the end of the game.

In other words, a puzzle is a problem that needs to be solved in order to progress the game's narrative.

For example, finding a key to unlock a door.

Blake Speers has compiled a huge list of puzzle theory here: http://www.mattgoble.com/interaction/ags/features/f03.htm

Also, see this article: http://junk.dk/puzzle/

Also, some of the bext puzzles are created when you think laterally.

Edit: One more thing: Make sure your puzzles fit the persona of the player character.

For example, the methods Bernad from Day of the Tentacle would use to solve puzzles are different from the methods that Ben from Full Throttle would use.

Of course. How stupid of me. And all this time I thought cancelling projects had no impact on the long-term expenditure since the money would have been invested in another project anyway. But I guess I was wrong. The entire financial weight of LucasArts rested on Sam n Max, and not those countless Star Wars games.

General Discussion / Re:Seeking approval

The thing is, Grav, we're not really talking about how life sucks.

We're talking more about being appreciated by others.

And by that, I don't mean "expecting to be appreciated by other", but more so where you're able to seek happiness from certain people because they let you know you do a good job.

Some people you can seek approval from, while others just can't give it cause it's not in the nature of their relationship with you.
#1333
What are you basing that on?

In Brisbane, we have a guy called (I think) Craig Wicks who owns a series of rug stores called "Rugs-A-Million".

Nearly every time you see an ad, he's on there saying he's going out of business and all stock has to go.

His ads have been running for about five years or so, which means he's been going out of business since about 1998.

He also looks like Bruce Mcavaney, which is even scarier.

I got my 56k two years go. Before then I was using a 33.6 for several years

And before then (in high school), I was using modems like 28.8s and 14.4s to dial on to bulletin boards.

For me, 56k is still good enough for me at the moment.

General Discussion / Seeking approval

I was watching the film Stand By Me today. It's a brilliant film. One of my favs. Seen it many times before.

I also watched the DVD "making of" doco. Rob Reiner talked a lot about the themes of the film. One of the undercurrents of the story was the juxaposition of Gordie's relationship with his father and his relationship with his friends.

Gordie's relationship with his father was buffered by his Brother, Denny. Gordie was able to seek approval of his writing through his brother, as opposed to his father. When Denny died, he lost that.

The film's progression deals with Gordie's seeking such approval from his friends, namely Chris.

I was wondering how people saw "seeking approval" of others.

I'm not talking about conformity or such, but just being told you've "done a good job".

I knew that, as a boy, I'd seek approval from my Dad, but felt knocked back at times. Don't get me wrong, because I love him dearly. But, looking back, I sometimes wished he'd supported me a little more.

Some things he said really hurt. I remember one time, we went through my first high school report card. I'd scored averages on most of my subjects and I failed art. He called me many synonyms for "average" and a few for "below average". I know he was trying to scare me away from being average, but I think it had the opposite effect: it made me feel worse.

And I think I found what I needed through people who laughed at my jokes. Like, I'd fool around in some classes. Other students would laugh. I'd even throw jokes into my science reports and made my science teacher laugh. He gave me higher marks too.

I think making people laugh was what saved me. I found approval from people who did laugh. I don't think my Dad found me all that funny as a child. Mabye he does know. I don't know. We do have a better relationship now and he does support me a lot more.

Maybe I just had to find something I wanted to do, like doing drama classes.

Something I was good at.

How about you?

That's a fucking ridiculous idea, DarkStalkey. Until the posts actually become ridiculous, ala DG's "what's your favourite my ass" (or whatever it was) on EZBoard, there's absolutely no reason to lock threads.

In my defense, the whole point in writing the "The makers of my ass must like my ass" topic was to show how ridiculous the whole repetitive topic thing was.

I did the same thing with this thread:
http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=13172

But, I do think DarkStalkey and AGA are both right -- The posts do become ridiculous and it's obvious people are doing it on purpose. Posts like mine, despite the fact that they're showing how ridiculous the situation is, can lead to others doing it do -- then the situation goes overboard.

So please, no more of these repetitive topic threads -- Try and be original and creative when you post a topic.

I think I'll try post something to counter all this repetitive topic post madness.

shbazjinkens, three things:

1) Calling me "sarcastic extreme" is a little silly. My "sarcastic extreme" comment was merely a joke and nothing more.

2) Andail understood what I meant by pro-lifers murdering doctors. You should be able to too -- It's a widely publicised topic.

3) Once again, I said Christianity is "one of the most extreme" religions. I'm not trying to make a comparison between Islam. Comparing it with Islam is beside the point. Christianity is still an extreme religion no matter how much you compare it with Islam. Re-read what I said, and you'll see.

MAY TEH LORD BLESS YOU!!1!
