Why did the King Quest remakes succeed?

Good question -- sometimes, no one knows what will succeed.

But in my honest opinion, I prefer to play an original game than a remake.

I didn't play KQ1VGA remake because it was basically the same game as the origianal.

But the KQ2VGA remake was a re-written game and deserved its praise -- I played it to the end and enjoyed it.

That is why I'm not for a Maniac Mansion remake -- because if you do a updated graphics version, then what else is there to keep me playing.

If you did a version of Maniac Mansion with new rooms, extra characters, and a different take on the story (and all while keeping with the feel of the original), then that would give me an incentive to play it.

But to just update the game so you've got DOTT-like sprites isn't enough reason for me to play a remake.

Then again, KQ1 has been downloaded over a half a million times (as quoted on AGD's website), so who am I to say what works?

P.S. Mats, instead of telling all negative people to butt out, what not ask them why they're negative about such a project? You might get some useful feedback.

Don't worry, Eric -- that side of choice gossip I wrote was typed at 3am.

I'm re-reading it now thinking "What was going through my mind?" -- Kinda like when people watch a David Lynch film.

But I promise, it'll never happen again.

Now, who want to hear some news about Britney and her ex-hubby?

And Judd Nelson was perfect for Marcus Brody.

Emilio Estevez could have played Beloque.

See, I don't understand why they didn't let John Hughes produce the Indy movies instead of Lucas!  ;D

Yes it is serious -- it was going to be Indy III.

But it was written in the mid-80s by the guy who made the Home Alone films.

All it needed was Molly Ringwald as Indy's chick and the cheese-factor would have been off the scale.

Actually, Rag, they admitted it was planned (Jackson's statement on the MTV websire: "The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my half-time show performance was made after final rehearsals.")

Also, if it was impulse, don't you think the Britney/Madonna kiss would fuel some of that impulse?

Keep in mind, Timberlake looked pretty pissed when he saw it.

Here's a theory I just had, which I haven't heard anyone else mention yet (and this will show much spare time I've got and how utterly bored I am right now):

The whole tit popping thing is a revenge against the Britney/Madonna kiss.

Some critics have compared it to it, but none have actually called it a "revenge tactic".

Keep in mind Britney and Justin used to date and the break-up was something harsh.

Consider, also, that Janet Jackson and Madonna used to complete in record sales.

What if the tit-popping is just an excuse to one-up Justin's ex-girlfriend?

It's a most plausable theory IMO.

...

...

After re-reading what I wrote, I've come to the conclusion that I really do have no life -- Maybe I should get some sleep before it's too late.

That's just typical of a right-wing nazi like you, Eric! I remember how much you supported, nay, begged for the war in Iraq! Now, you're just shrugging your shoulders going, "Dum de dum! What war? Hey! Look! Janet Jackson's tit popped out!" That is such a typical conservative American attitude! No wonder the world hates you!

And you own time-travel technology and won't share with the rest of the world! The whole US is a conspiracy! ROSWELL!! ROSWELL!! You can't hide the truth from the people!!

Sorry, Even, but just commenting not as much on the war but on the hypocrisy/stupidity of people on what they consider important in their lives.

Actually, the government isn't using a political trick to shift focus from WMD this time.

Powell gave an interview with the Washington Post on the state of US "intelligence" recently and (correct me if I'm wrong) it made front page news.

I know that the WMD/intelligence issue was the first story mentioned on the news in Australia at the time.

So, the politicians have been very vocal about it and the news organisations have given it front page.

But oddly, the public seems more interested in the tit.

Maybe people on the whole are just too stupid to see something important dangled into front of their eyes (i.e. that the US government's intelligence organisations caused a war that shouldn't have happened --  To quote Powell: ""Absence of a stockpile changes the political calculus, it changes the answer you get.")

Doh! My real reason for going to Japan has been exposed!

And I would have gotten away with it, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids and your dog!
#1692
Aye, that's the thing Ben -- Both the CIA stuff and the nipple stuff were reported about the same (In fact, in my city's paper, the CIA/White House/WMD inquiry stuff was reported more).

Yet, people on the net seem more interested in a saggy titty.

#1693
I found this sad:

In the same time period, the US government stated that their intelligence institutions were a joke and admitted there were no WMDs in Iraq.

Yet, everyone shows more concern over some ponce ripping-off a bra, exposing some has-been's tit.

By the way, shouldn't Darth be replying about now?

Hmm, must be held up in traffic.
#1694
Aye, that's what i heard too.

I'm going to learn some Japanese anyway -- Gotta order food somehow!

Actually, speaking of the next AGS Awards, I don't think I'll be able to do them, so I'll need to organise a replacement later this year.

I'm not trying to do anything illegal - it's not a copied game

Oh really??

How do you explain this security photo I took of you, Mr Sticky-fingers?

#1696
Rodey, are you suggesting a... a... SPIN-OFF?!?!

No way, that could never happen!  ;D

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch this Ewoks movie!

YUB YUB!

I see you're planning ahead, DG.  :P

It may seem a little grim, but what I mean is I just want to accomplish something great or be somewhere special.

I don't have any desire to stay in the same place for too long.

Keep on movin' till the day you die.  :)

Well, it's a plan so far.

But I've spoken to a few people who have done it or knew something about it.

I'd like to take one of those Jet programs -- people recommend them highly, but they're very competitive.

But the plan so far is: (a) learn as much as I can about the programs, (b) complete my degree, (c) apply for one of the jobs, (d) go to England and see my Dad, (e) go to Japan, teach English, and check the place out!

I feel like going on an adventure -- a real one!  :)

After I do that, then I'll plan (f) my next adventure!
#1699
<insert Grim Fandango joke here>

Christ, I'm not even trying these days. :)

I decided a month ago: I'm going to Japan to teach English.

I'll get to travel overseas, earn some cash, and can say afterwards that I have done something interesting with a few years of my life.

BONUS!

Plus, I might get me that Alien Quad box, which will make it all the more sweeter.

If not Japan, then Korea or Taiwan.

Plus, I may get to meet Gilbot!
