General Discussion / Re:Mappomedia

Ok, first of all, whoever is doing that retarded CEO crap, cut it out, cause the only CEO of Mappomedia is ME!!

For proof, I have the original (and only, so far) Mappomedia website WITH COPYRIGHT!!!

Secondly, there has been more illegal use of my website's name, so now I'm bringing in my lawyer:

Johnny says: "Consider your asses served!"

Mr Jack, I'm warning you: if you use my company's name, 'Mappomedia', with my consent again, my lawyers will turn your ass to grass!  >:( >:( >:(

Great injustices?????

It's not flippin' apartheid -- It's a game awards ceremony!

As for long and short categories, I've stated this before -- It's impossible and time-consuming (We've already tried).

Firstly, how do you define the different between a long game and a short game?

Granted, I know there's a difference between KQVGA remake and Red Flagg, but what about the games closer to the mark?

Do we define a long game as over a certain amount of rooms, say 20? What if a 1 room game has more hours of play than a 20 room game (and this is possible)?

Conversely, do we define a game by playing time? If so, how do we measure it exactly?

What about puzzles? Number of characters? Objects? How exactly do you distinguish long and short?

Here lies the problem.

There are two options I can take:

1. Divide the categories into long and short, based upon number of rooms, characters, objects, and puzzles -- But this would lead to complaints from people that make one aspect (say, puzzles) larger than another aspect (say, rooms).

2. Include them all into the same categories -- I think this is a better option because adventure games are still a means of artistic expression, despite size, and also they do not have a definitive measurement, like the time length of films.

(Also, as a side point, I don't ever remember the Oscars having seperate categories for comedies and drama, except in music scoring about 6-7 years ago (However, this category only lasted for a few years -- they've scrapped it about 2-3 years ago) -- You're thinking of the Golden Globes, which still have seperate Comedy and Drama categories) (BTW, spot the Oscar nut :) )

As for saying you KQ2VGA doesn't deserve the award for best story, I disagree -- The story was revamped by Tierra and a lot of the elements were more closely integrated (And face facts: The story in the original KQ2 was crap).

Tierra's version improved upon the original in so many ways that it is now a new game.

However, I am mindful of plagiarism, and detest it greatly, which is why I will add a resolution to disqualify anyone using story stolen from someone else.

(BTW, did you notice that KQ1VGA wasn't nominated for story?)

As for Indy winning for FOY in the possible future, why the hell not? -- Indy's acting in it and if Indy does a good job that the Community likes then he deserves his award.

Remember, the character awards are awarded to the characters -- even though I send the award to the game developers, I ask them to "pass the award to the proper recipient" :)

As a final point on such "injustices": as Eric said, it's the people's choice -- Although I may seem a little dictorial when it comes to the categories, ultimately it is up to the COMMUNITY to decide what games should win best games, etc -- As far as I can see, the Community has voted very well.

I hope this has been cleared up, so no one thinks there are any more great "injustices".

P.S. Even though 6DA's story was short, I felt it was a very strong and tense story for such a short game -- I'm guessing a lot of people felt this way, judging by their votes.

You are thinking of the inferior Mappomedia Industries website.

Mine is 100% bonafide.

Better:
1. Launch AGS edit
2. Select "Start a new game", click "OK"
3. Select the "Blank game" template, type in the game's name, click "Next >>"
4. Select the resolution of your choice, click "OK"
5. Select "Help" --> "Make my game..."
6. Check options where-ever appropiate, click "OK"

VIOLA!!!1! You now have your own game done!1!1! I'm quite descriptive on this one, am I, am I? ;D

You forgot the masturbate step.

Better yet, follow my tutorial:

1. Draw the graphics, but don't worry if they look a little on the rubbish side of things -- The main thing is the advertising and not the actual graphics and story of game itself (That's why Ace Quest is so popular -- it has a good advertising campaign)

2. Do the scripting -- This is done by posting on the forum "HEY D00DZ CAN ANYONE DOES THE SCRIPTING FOR MY COMPANY LEETSOFT!!! I CAN DO THE GRAPHICS AND WE MAKES TEH BEST GAME EVER!!!"

3. Masturbate

4. Do the music -- This is done by asking Mods.

5. Bug Gilbert, CJ, Spyros, etc for help with YUOR GAME

6. Compile it while masturbating again

7. Upload to tripod server and then find out your have no more space.

8. Bug Slypher for a hosting mirror.

9. Advertise!

10. Congrats! You've just made an AGS game!

(a) Well in some sense I think some of the later AGI games DO use VGA (something like LSL2 onwards), using VGA doesn't mean the graphic modes has to be in hi-res or having 256+ colours. There are in fact, modes like VGA 320x200x16 colours (here I wont argue whether it's a MCGA mode or VGA mode, I'll just consider the MCGA modes subset of VGA modes). One basec difference is the base palette, that with EGA you can only choose colours from a base palette of 64 (I think) colours, whereas in VGA, you can choose them from sorta 262 144 colours (though when running in 16 colour mode, you can display a total of 16 from them simultaneously). This also applies to some of the LEC adventures (eg. 16 colour version of Indy3).

But that's not actually AGI -- That's actually AGI 2 you're talking about.

Quote(c) Hehe, teh 7th Guest, by the game company's own definition, it WAS an adventure, though in our definition, it's just a collection of small puzzle games (that can fit even into a low density floppy, if you ditched all the "killer graphics" and sounds) wasting  2 CDs.

Let's not forget the hammy acting too.

In any case, it isn't an adventure by today's standards.

Yeah, your story sucks!

There also no sex in it!

DG - can I have 5 of those shirts?

Yup, just order them from my Mappomedia Industries website:

Yes, I have noticed this, and I haven't even sent out any site info to KANDY or M0ds.

Bugger it.

I'll do the bloody awards again -- but don't expect any mention on it until December.

M0ds, you can help me organise it if you want.

P.S. I'm not pissed at Yahtzee -- My attitude at the time was "He's won an award, why couldn't he just be humble about it, instead of sneaking a jab or two?" and now I couldn't care less. Besides, he still makes a good game.

Cheers!

What the fuck?

I already own a company called 'Mappomedia Industries' -- You can't call your company 'Mappomedia Industries' too, you dirty thief!

I've owned it longer than you too -- I even have a website to prove it:

http://mappomedia.tripod.com/index.htm

Stop using the name 'Mappomedia Industries' or else I will get my lawyers to sue you!

I can see several things wrong with that article, especially in the last page:

a) AGI doesn't use CGA and VGA. It used CGA and EGA. I've never seen an AGI game using more than 16 colours.

b) The scene they used from Broken Sword isn't an 'arcade sequence'. It was from a cutscene.

c) The 7th Guest isn't an adventure by definition. It's a puzzle game.

Professional my arse!!!

Graphically, it looks superb.

Aye, I hate spammers who posts their crap in every single thread.

Thank you too, Chis.

P.S. Buy a T-Shirt.

Oh great, it's finally come to someone posting this.

That's it, I'm leaving the forums forever.

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

Also, make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen -- If it does, I will delete it.

-------------------------------------

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "The Late MS-Paint Rehash"

Excuse my lateness, but this week has left me "in a world of shit" -- but now I'm alive and I'm not afraid blah blah blah blah blah.

Anyway, the job for this PP is to take a scene from ANY commercial adventure game (No AGS games) and redesign the scene as if it were made in MS-Paint.

Something like this, for example:

So make the pissyist reconstruction you can of any scene from a commercial adventure.

Next Week: An on-time Photoshop Phriday thread

2 points to anyone who can figure out the incredibly ironic allusion to a famous piece of music.

It's gotta be Chisel's Khe San!
