I think calling Hitman gay is over-analysing the game a little -- Though anything is open to interpretation.

But speaking of gay characters, I would really like to play a game starring a similar character to Molina from Kiss of the Spider Woman (especially William Hurt's Oscar-winning portrayal in the film)-- a man who is so confident of himself that he can easily admit who he is, and challenges Valentin (and us) because of it.

One of my favourite lines from the film goes:

Molina: I understand one thing, I offer you half of my precious avocado and you throw it back in my face.

Valentin: Don't act like that! You sound just like a...

Molina: Like a what? Say it. Like a woman, you mean. What's wrong with being like a woman. Why do only woman get to be sensitive? Why not a man? Or a dog? Or a faggot?

Tim: He is -- I met him at a writers' festival and he's got such a laidback attitude.

While all the other big writers wore suits, he walked with shorts, shirt and thongs (or beach sandals -- I can't remember).

I once remember a letter in an old issue of ST Format asking why there were no major black characters in Monkey Island, even though it's set in the Caribbean.

The magazine replied with the example of The Swordmaster -- Not only was she black, but a woman, and thus a good example of a minority character in a major adventure game role.

So, what do you all think of The Swordmster?

I probably say this, like, once a month, but this is the BEST PHOTOSHOP EVER!!

Wow, Capt -- Neil Innis is a fantastic singer and it must have been brillo to meet him!

As for moi, I am actually related to Leslie Uggams (she's my Auntie).

http://www.imdb.com/Name?Uggams,+Leslie

She used to have her own show in the 60s and she was nominated for a Golden Globe and Emmy for that miniseries "Roots".

I met her when I was a kid, but that was ages ago -- I'd like to get in contact with her again sometime and see how she, my Uncle and my cousins are.

I've also me Eric Buell (of the motorbike fame) when I was working in a cafe. I even served him a Latte.

I was also called an idiot by Bob Ellis, who is a filmmaker and political writer here in Australia. I asked him what his favourite films were and he said that there were so many movies you couldn't possibly say which is your favourite film and that my question was idiotic. (I take great pride in this brush with fame)

I've also met John Birmingham. His books are the fucking funniest reads ever if you can find them overseas. See if you can find his classic piece of work "He Died With A Felafel In His Hand".

I also met Paul Kelly's brother. Actually, his brother used to be vice principal at my high school.

And once my high school booed all-boy pop band Human Nature off stage when the school hired them to sing at one of our dances.

I just saw the "You're are so fired" from BBS to GG and thought "Umm, maybe I should start some such thing".

But we can continue the Minority Character thing if everyone is happy with that.

Netmonkey: Not very many adventure games have this as it's a little difficult to implement.

For example, I'd like to see a demonstation of subtext and symbolism in a game like Phantasmagoria (which plays more like a soap opera than a piece of interative dramatic fiction).

BBS: I was also thinking about how we could better use the interactive environment in AGS to better the usage of symbolism and subtext -- That's probably more what you're after, I think.

Anyway, enough of my yappin' -- let's move on to GarageGothic's topic in the next post.

I think I've found a problem.

Spoiler
What's the difference between the pockets on the pants? I can't see any difference.

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

-------------------------------------

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is: "California Zombie Election" (an idea developed by Esseb, Las Naranjas, and myself)

The California Election for Governor is looming -- and the adventure game world has a number one candidate for the job: Michael Gower (aka The Zombie from RON)

However, he has stiff competition from his equally matched rival, The Ghost Pirate LeChuck.

For this week's photoshop phriday, simply make an image of either Gower or LeChuck in a political setting, either contemporary or historical.

At the end of this Photoshop Phriday, we will tally the different sets of images for both candidates -- the one with the most images becomes Governor of California and gets to eat Arnie's brains. (Note: I will make a final photoshop of this ;) )

Good luck and remember -- "Ask not what you can photoshop for your country, but what your country can photoshop for you!"

Maybe I should try.

This next topic is SUBTEXT AND SYMBOLISM IN ADVENTURE GAMES

What are your favourite examples from the commercial games?

How about examples of your own?

My favourite is the gun exchange between Manny and Meche in Grim Fandango:

"(Hands over the gun) Here. What's a relationship without trust, right?"

"True, a relationship without trust is like a gun without a bullet!"

If you blindly follow your girlfriend's advice (nay, demands) to shave your pubes, then you're a pussy-whipped guy and would do anything to please her.

Thus, there's no chance of you being gay, so you didn't have to take the stupid test in the first place.

Oh yeah, this happens to me all the time!

One time, I played football on my computer and I blacked out but people told me I started screaming stupid shit at them while trying to tackle them.

And this other time, I was playing Leisure Suit Larry and I blacked out and humped my best friend's leg and now he isn't my best friend anymore.

And this other time, I was playing Hitman and blacked out and ended up slaughtering my whole neighbourhood and we had to move house so the cops wouldn't find out!

OMG HOW EMBARRASSING!!!

The internet is not just 1 thing invented by a person, it's litterally billions of different networks hooked up through a cable, that had no real development process and is still very experimental.

Bullshit -- Al Gore created the internet all by himself!

Please respect my sexuality and my opinions and quit trying to switch me over to your side. I'm happy where I am.

Finally, if you guys don't agree with me, that's fine, but why not have a little more respect for my opinion? I agree, I was being too harsh with the way I worded it. But take it in context with my point.

I'm not gay, but I have a lot of friends who are.

So, why should I show respect for you opinion when you show no respect for my friends?

And how can I take context into account when your comments were so shabbily worded that it was hard to make any context out of it?

P.S. The internet was made in the US -- Al Gore still has the boot disks.

Raggit: That's because this community tries to promote accaptance for all walks of life, whether black, white, grean, yellow, gay, straight, bi, or zoophile (if that's your thing).

And merely stating your bonehead opinion without any degree of real reasoning (unless you count 'gay people should shut up', which I don't), just shows what a dick you are.

Now shut up or else I'll get the rednecks from Deliverence to take care of your purty mouth.

As for Gay TV shows:
I'm sure a bunch of whitebread suckers like us were having the same conversation in the 60s when black TV shows became all the rage.

Now it's practically manditory to have a black stereoytype on the show going "HEEEEY SISTAS! YOU IS ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS! WORD!"

BTW, if Friends is set in New York, how come you hardly see any black people?

New York my arse!

Ah who cares -- Will and Grace still makes me laugh.

Hehehehe, that Jack is so crazy! :D ;D :D ;D :D
