I think I forgot to change the date on last week's PP -- No matter, cause here's a new one!

----------------------------

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

Note: Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

-------------------------------------

What do I have to do?

This week's Photoshop Phriday is this: "The Adventures of Guybrush and Indy"

Some of you probably saw my wacky comic that partially inspired the downfall of the General forum:

Now, it's your turn!

Simply make a comic that shows the hilarious exploits of a tough-as-nails archeologist and his wacky pirate companion!

For this, you'll need the main characters:

The rest is up to your imagination!

Side note: I'm also thinking of entering the lucrative market of WEBCOMICS!

If I go ahead with it, I'll also set up a GUEST PAGE and use some of the really good comics designed here.

Thank you and let you mind run wild like a streaker on the field during your favourite sporting event!

EDIT: Also, make sure your entries don't stretch past 700 pixels or else it's going to cause probs with reading this post.

rookworm: It's a shame they didn't have computers 80 years ago.

And yes a lot of the stuff was hard to figure out -- then again, I think the whole game is a series of arbitrary links.

aurynnz: Glad you liked it, but it might be a while before I do another Dada game.

I'm sure there's such a thing as constructive criticism.

And I'm open to any opinion/criticism you have on Dada:SIB, despite moderation.

In fact, I want criticism of it.

I think it there's a difference between "slagging a game" as opposed to "offering a critical opinion of a game".

And so far, I've welcomed both positive and negative feedback from various people.

(And if you want, you can tell me what you think of it via IM Capt -- I would really like to hear what you think)

(And that also goes for anyone else -- IM me your thoughts, even if you hated it)

Besides, when I mean "crap games", I actually mean commerical crap products, such as that piece-of-shit Phantasmagoria.

Not AGS games.

I think there's nothing wrong with criticising commercial garbage (and there's plenty of it).

I found out about my local anime club by searching the internet and finding it locally -- I got to meet people and see lots of cool shit on the big screen!

This is what might help:

Open the phone book.

Find a club that interests you. (like a writing club or an art club, anime club, music club, sporting club, etc, etc)

Join it.

If not a club in the phone book, search the internet for a club near you.

If it's a distance away, but a big trip out of it -- something exciting and new -- catch the bus or train.

And join the club and have some fun.

Meet people and find out what they like.

AND CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!

Perhaps we need to do something similar to the huge Monkey Island thread -- As in how we analysed Monkey Island to the point of 'What was Ron thinking?' and 'What is the REAL secret to Monkey Island?'

I'd like to start something similar with my Dada game and ask everyone what they think it all means -- I'm very interested to find out the various opinions and analyses. (Partially, because I don't really have one of my own -- ironic, since I made it.)

And each week we can discuss a different game to the point of analysing structure, character, meaning, themes, etc, etc

Not only that, we can also analyse the crap games to find exactly why such and such game is so damn terrible.

That way, it stays light, informative, semi-debatable, semi-analytical, and a little fun.

Sort of like a book club where everyone goes off, reads a particular book, all meet back to discuss it, and get drunk.

What do you think?

There's no other explaination.

I think you've actually got it without realising it -- In many ways, the game is meant to challenge your perception.

However, I'm not going into any deep analysis for you because I think it means something different for everyone.

I would like to hear what others think it all means.

Hi there!

I made a game called Dada: Stagnation In Blue (it's a shortie):
http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~hooks/Dada.zip

Mirrors:
Dave Gilbert's Super-Cool mirror
Butt-ugly Tripod mirror

It's currently at version 1.1.

A warning though -- do not play it if at work, school or you get depressed easily, because this game is very unsettling in parts.

And don't let children play it either.

Thank you.

veryweirdguy -- the mirror you posted now doesn't work for some reason.  :-\

Classical music is fine from an artistic stand point, but rock music addresses a lot of social conventions -- something that classical music doesn't do very well.

I find Bob Dylan's music more rewarding from a lyrical sense than say Beethoven's Ode to Joy (But that's subjective).

Even though Ode to Joy may be more beautiful, Dylan's work feels more lyrically honest.

Both are brilliant songs though.

Also, even a lot of prog rock challenges classical music through incorporation of classical pieces and structure into the songs.

For an example of what I'm talking about listen to Jethro Tull's 'Thick As A Brick' (clocking over 40mins!) or Genesis' 'Suppers Ready' (over 20 mins!) to understand.

In this sense, rock music is more superior than classical because it advances it that extra step.

As for my favourite song of 2003, I'd say either Radiohead's "Where I End and You Begin" or "A Wolf At The Door".

Then again I haven't listened to that much music this year (and it's hard to in this pop-crazed world of Ja Rule, J.Lo and 50 Cent), but I did like taryuu's selection of White Stripes' Seven Nation Army, and the Mars Volta's "Inertiatic Esp" (Thanks to Sylpher for telling me about this one!)

You can't take a website like that seriously.

I prefer to take a few tracks from the gospel Bill Hicks:

"What difference does it make what I do with my body as long as I don't hurt another human being?"

I think people should look at pornography all they want -- it's only a natural reaction to their hormones kicking in.

I also believe two consenting adults (whatever the gender or sexual preference) should be able to do whatever the hell they want together either in or out of marriage.

And on the subject of drugs, from Bill Hicks again:

"Drugs have done some good things. If you don't believe me, take all your albums and all your CDs and burn them. Cause you know the musicians who made that great music? RRRREALLY fucked up on drugs."

In other words, Anti-porn guy is a moron and
this is his anus: ( o ) It is very big.

And OneManArmy's attempt to bring homosexuals down to the level of peodophiles and beastialitiles is like bringing the mentally handicapped down to the level of OneManArmy.

In fact, I'd call him a fuckwit but that would be insulting to fuckwits.
