3d is 3d and 2d is 2d. What I'm trying to say is that is it not wise to try to simulate the either through the other, but to let each medium be its own. It's equalent hard to make something good in 3d than to make something good in 2d, and trying to make something great requires a lifetime commitment.

Though I did like in Futurama how they were able to blend the 3D work with the 2D work by making the 3D look cell animated. But would that also count as a simulation of 2D using 3D? If so, it's probably a very rare example of successfully trying to achieve a cell animated effect using 3D. I can't think of any other examples that have done so.

By the way, 2ma2, it's great to hear from you again, buddy!  :)

The game was banned in Australia.

Good!

It was a piece of shit. I downloaded the demo and it would have to be one of the most unplayable things I've ever played. It's got a lot of walking around and games from the early-80s. Well, who needs Half Life 2 or San Andreas when you've got an unplayable piece of dick-cheese called Manga Cum Laude? Why, oh, why, God did you curse this planet with this unfortunate game? Please, rain upon this planet for 40 days to flood all copies of this gaming equivalent of a car accident! I will gladly bang my head with a crowbar repeatedly for a whole day just to wipe all copies off the face of the Earth! Please, save us! Damn that game to hell!

so hats happenin in this thraed?/

Quoteisnt that just Leela from futurama in a manga style?

Wow, you're very observant. It's almost like I made the image for some kind of photoshopping competition. ;D

Originally it was a Belldandy from Ah! My Goddess but I purple-ised the hair, joined the eyes, and added Leela clothes to make OMG KAWAII LEELA!1

Only thing I left out was the gizmo on her arm.

It's not my best work though IMO, but not bad for a 2 hour job at 1am in the morning.

And if you really want to see me destory your fond memories, wait until I add a manga-style Horrible Gelatinous Blob to the mix.

I'm disappointed with this game. I played it all the way to the end and didn't see Jim Morrison anywhere.

The lure of 3d for me isn't that objects looks good or anything, it's that there are things you can do in 3d that can't be done in 2d [no matter what DG says].

I said what now??

EDIT: Now I remember what Colossal's talking about it. It was a thread from ages ago (and one that's mysteriously disappeared for some reason) where in it I was saying that adventure games don't need graphics to exist, and that graphics only enhance the game but are not mandatory to the game's construction. In the thread, I posed that the graphics of a certain game could be converted to textual descriptions. And I think my theory is valid since text-based adventures existed long before most graphical adventures.

Sure, the game isn't as good without graphics, but the game still exists -- and that was my point. And this was based on my theory that an adventure game relies upon two necessary components: a narrative and interactions. Graphics, music, and so forth only enhance them game, but aren't necessary.

This isn't the same as saying what can be done in 3D can be done in 2D -- I don't think I've ever said that, or ever believed it. In fact, the only decent graphics I ever been able to do are in 3D using a rendering program called Imagine 4.0.

I believe there's a lot you can do with 3D programs, especially ones with Zvarily functions.

People obviously liked your game.  Shouldn't you feel good enough about that?  So it didn't get nominated for an AGS Award, it's not the end of the world.  An AGS Award isn't a measurement of your game being better or worse than others, it's just a silly little ceremony we've come to adopt.

Does it feel good to win an AGS Award? Sure it does, but remember it also feels good to have people praise your game.  If that's what you're looking for, you certainly seem to have gotten some pretty high marks already.

Quoted for emphasis.

Just a quick note: The AGS Awards is only supposed to be just a bit of fun. Remember that. It's not a measure of how big your penis/breasts are. People can still lead very fruitful lives without AGS Awards. And reforms are good, yes, diversifying the categories is good, yes, but don't get too bogged down in reforms and rules, cause it sucks the fun out of it. As long as people have fun... that's the main thing.

but as DG so kindly [read: sarcastically/fantasizingly] put it

What can I say? I'm a man with very deep desires.  ;D

Also, how does one define the voice of certain male Simpsons characters, like Bart Simpson, Ralph Wiggum, and Jimbo Jones, when they're all performed by the same voice actress, Nancy Cartwright?

What about Brad Bird performing the voice of Edna Mode in The Incredibles?

General Discussion / Re: Red Nose Day!
Sat 12/03/2005 04:34:09
There's a lot of charities that do things like that though. Like yesterday, the Australian Leukaemia Foundation had their World's Greatest Shave (For the overseas users: it's where the foundation shave people's heads for charity). I think the symbolism of Red Nose Day is seen as more morbid cause the red nose is an instrument of comedy and clowning, and it really contrasts to the very unfunny symbolism for SIDS.

No. I found it in another forum. But, ironically, the creator was someone I and many people here knew. Hint: Check the URL.

if a human can recognize the distiction between a male and female voice, than so can a turing machine.  if a human can synthesize a sound that can be represented in digital form, than so can a turing machine.  there's nothing theoretically stopping perfect synthesis of words from text by a computer.  if the distinction between male and female can be determined, then the change can also be made...this isn't even debatable!  I'm not saying we have this technology now or that we ever will.

By your logic, if a human can recognise the 'distiction' between fellatio and cunnilingus, then my computer should be giving me free blowjobs as we speak.

I sympathise Pesty. Last year, I had to tally and announce the nominees and make sure everyone could vote a few hours before I packed my bags and left for a trip to Melbourne.

General Discussion / Re: Film Eff ups
Wed 09/03/2005 03:07:34
I hate film stuff-ups. Like, the movie Twins. Remember the scene where the doctor says Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger are twins, but they look nothing like each other. Man, how could you screw that up?

And remember where at the start they say that Schwarzenegger's character was supposed to be a genius, but in real life Schwarzenegger isn't really a genius. They should have replaced him with someone that's a genius, but looks like Danny Devito. Like Bob Hoskins. He's British and Brits always sound smart, saying things like, "I say, Lady Trent-Spompington! Fancy another cucumber sandwich with your tea?"

In conclusion, I think there were many missed opportunities in making Twins.
