you know, you're really not that funny.

It's great to be taking lessons in funny from an obvious comedy genius such as yourself. My dreams of becoming a rodeo clown have been officially dashed.

me an idiot? i'm not the one getting all pissy because somebody said something about celebrity worship.
if somebody having a different opinion to somebody else makes them an idiot then the world would have imploded under the weight on humanity's stupidity, moron.

WOW YUO SURE SHOWD ME

Let me put it this way: If say Ben Affleck had died and someone started a thread on him, I'd expect at least someone (especially you) to say "OMG! WHO CAERS!! HE'S JUST A CELEBRITTY!" and it wouldn't matter to me at all.

It's not that you have a different opinion, stupid. It's that you're, as always, stating an opinon without much thought being put into what you're actually saying. And since you were being thoughtless as usual, I think I have every right to call you an idiot. But then again, I should take that back since your knowledge of astrophysics (explained with shitty metaphors) exceeds all bounds. Wait till I call the Nobel Academy to award you the Dipshit Peace Prize... IN SCIEANCE!!1!

Quotewhy the hell do people care so much when a celebrity dies? somebody from my town died the other day, don't see me devoting a thread to him.
damn celebrity worshippers.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realise your neighbour was one of the most prominent black actors in history as well as one of the leading social advocates for black entertainers, which includes but is not limited to delivering a eulogy describing Malcom X as a "black shining prince".

In other words, you're an idiot, Boyd. It has nothing to do with being celebrity and all to do with being someone who actually did something important.

But hey, if you think your neighbour achieved as much with his life as Ossie, then start your own thread. Just don't resort to writing your usual bonehead commentary in this one.

No, I can't because I don't know where to find it on the web. But I'm sure it's out there. Trust me, you lazy bums, it's worth finding.

Da Mayor is dead. Long live Da Mayor.

Incidently, today I learnt he gave eulogies at both Malcom X and Martin Luther King's funerals. Hunt down his eulogy for Malcom X -- it's one of the most beautiful things you'll ever read.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is all you need to know:

That makes two video game-based movies that Christian Slater has been in now.

That's the thing: I thought Alone In The Dark would have made a great movie IF (and a big IF) Boll had stuck to the original source. His whole Hollywood mentality (special effects, "name" stars) is what made the film fail (Granted, the same type of mentality turned that cinematic dungheap I, Robot into a box office hit, but keep in mind the film is still a piece of shit albeit a money-making piece of shit). But if he did away with the whole "I-need-special-effects-and-a-well-known-cast" and just stuck to unleashing his creativity (that is, if he has any), then AITD would have been better.

I'm not a huge fan of M. Night Shyamalan, but I reckon this is the sort of material that'd be right up his alley: a scary film where it's not what you see but what you don't see. Plus he'd stick to proper casting and give Carnby his big moustache back.

I can't see what Unilin said that got a whole bunch of panties in a knot. But if you feel someone wronged you, you don't go, "OMG YUO DOANT KNOW ME!!1" That's the second-worst argument on the internet (The first being any mention of Hitler). What you do is have a bigass, motherfucken duel-off, like these guys:

YEAH! That shit looks awesome!

QuoteSecondly, although I totally respect your right to whinge about the pestering and to get annoyed (seriously, go for it), I can only say that maybe if there had been some sort of thread or decent announcement as to the nature of the delay earlier, maybe people wouldn't be pestering.

Now, I'm going to post this without doing a search at all, fully accepting the risk of making an ass of myself here if there is a thread of this nature around.

There's a line I mentioned in that post (and this applies to everyone): "Guys, please don't bombard Pesty with suggestions already. No money prizes and no category changes at the moment. First, Pesty has to get a feel for the awards. Let her run the awards the way she wants to this year and save your suggestions for later."

The same goes for asking her when the awards will be, or any other Awards-related questions. The answer is the same: no idea, hopefully sooner than later. I hope everyone respects her privacy and remains patient while she takes hold of the reins.

True. I've heard a mixed reaction about Spartan. Some love it, and some really detest it.

That's what makes me detest the guy so much.  Hannibal was watchable and I loved Wag the Dog.  So, seeing those titles in his filmography confounded me.  His other recent films, Heist and Lifeboat I've yet to see but don't particularly want to after Spartan.  The comedy I was referring to was State and Main.  I tried watching it but the dialogue twisted my intestines and I found myself unable to continue due to flashbacks from Spartan.  And the dialogue style is intentional! Val Kilmer's nothing great (minus Top Secret, of course) but he did a better job in Real Genius.

Heist, I've heard, is really good. Haven't seen it, but want to. Glengarry has some killer lines, especially Alec Baldwin's monologue. But keep in mind that my original point is that you can not put Mamet and Boll in even the same league. Mamet is an accomplished playwright as well as an accomplished screenwriter. He's had a range of hits (as well as some misses) in a career that has earnt him the title of one of Hollywood's best screenwriters.

Boll, meanwhile, has directed two movies based on video games. Both panned and made very little money. He's neither original or as creative as Mamet. That's why putting them in the same category is IMO a little misguided.

As for Far Cry, I was very meh about it. I can think of better titles to claim Best of 2004.

Bah, you're all full of crap! Game-to-movie adaptations are wose. I played How To Make An American Quilt and got to the third patch before I turned it off and committed sepuku. And I'm still alive to deal with the pain, which shows how bad it was.

To answer everyone's current and future questions:

I don't know.

That's the best response I can give (and I'm guessing it's likewise for Pesty), so you'll have to deal with that no matter how impatient you get.

The reason why they're so late is this: I was going to run through a few things with Pesty -- mainly how the awards and website work -- but I never got around to doing it . I've been pre-occupied with things of greater priority.

But just because there are no awards now, it doesn't mean you can stop making games. I encourage each person to keep trying their best, making game after game, each time making a better game than the previous one.

And with this, I wish good luck to you all.

Wait, are you serious about SomethingAwful closing next Thursday? Or are you joking?

I'm not sure if you are or aren't.

The way you phrased that, Daniel, actually gave me shivers!

I actually gave myself the shivers when I wrote that.

And not good shivers, either.

Also, on the same day, SomethingAwful will close down.

CHILLAX YAKSPIT. IT'S ONLY THE INTERWEB.

I know you weren't equating one to the other. I just though stating one is a greater topic than the other is kind of a non-issue anyway. There are many issues that affect kids differently, whether it's an issue that (IMO) should be acceptable in society (such as homosexuality) to that which is universally understood as harmful to society (alcoholism). Hell, I learnt about evil sexual preditors from that episode of Diff'rent Strokes where the bikeshop owner "touches" Dudley, but I'm not going to say that issue is more important than a lesbian encounter by Arthur's best buddy. They're both two different issues in a sea of a million. And I think any show that at least tries to educate a little is more beneficial than most of the shit you see on TV anyway (And I wasn't meaning that you'd prefer the whitebread seen-it-all-before TV, insead I meant what I said as a general comment that most of the whitebread vanilla TV is pretty bland and without any real cultural benefit and that shows, whether they be Buster Meets Lesbians or a documentary on drunken Dads, at least add flavour).
