i remember one marketing scheme mac had were these commercials of people explaining that they use macs because its so simple to use and how confused they were when using pc's. it was a great marketing strategy but i think they should have added a tag onto the end of the commercials saying "MAC! computer for dummies". so far i own a nice little render farm all on custome built PC's both with winxp32 and winxp64 and ive never had any problems. my audio system running nuendo runs soooo smoothly and my current project currently has 89 tracks and climbing and hasnt crashed yet. my friends mac running pro-tools needs to be rebooted every once in a while cuz something always messes up

i think if it was just a civilian he/she would get into alot of trouble snooping around. a PI might have more luck since its his job.

my studio does animation. those are render nodes. so more or less all the havei n them are motherboard, 2 processors, ram, a 40gig hard drive a PSU and a crappy video card (i would have gone without the video card and gotten a mobo with onboard video but the one with onboard video could only take 4 gigs of ram and the price was next to negligable). i usually fire them up for the big jobs. the small jobs i do on the 6 celerons

the most common systems in my place is a dual quad core q6600 with 8 gb ram. the next common are the celeron systems but they are crap. then there is the dual opteron system as well as the dual xeon system

General Discussion / Re: Sibelius 5.1

the last time i went to a digi-design/M-Audio conference i thought the digi-design people said they bought sibelius in order to dismantle it and add its notation system into pro-tools. it would be about time. nuendo has had notation for a while although i found it cumbersome to use.

i used 3dsmax. thats an old project though

does the software you use have GI? the lighting in the scenes needs a more realistic feel (unless your going for the 3d feel)

just a simple architecture point, lots of buildings usualy have large windows in their lobbys to take advantage of the views as well as to bring in alot of ambient light

this lobby i did a couple years ago uses a full glass wall to light the interior lobby.
you might also want to change the placement of the furniture into a better seating environment. angles like that usually waste alot of space

there is nothing wrong with insects. look at bugs life. one of the easier parts with insect characters is usually that they are segmented and therefore they dont really need to be skinned, the character itself can be the bone rig.

these are shots of a character from my film where his whole body is segmented

your best bet is to find images of hotel lobbys and model off of what you see. unless your an architect i wouldnt recommend trying to proportion things yourself. thats my oppinion from an architects point of view. from my point of view doing 3d architectural visualisation for a living you have bright lights lighting the floor with no discernable light source (maybe its those white spots i see on the roof hidden by the pillars), the lights are too bright, interior lighting is not the most easy of things (its almost an artform ballancing ambient light with artificial light), you need to turn on AA as someone suggested (anti-alising), the counter (i assume its the counter) just looks like a box with a boulder texture applied to it. and you definately need to fil the scene with more furniture. there are tonnes of furniture resources online where you can download enough things to add to your scene.
