The new version is out.

Here's a paintover, hope you don't mind:



1) Original sprite, made the background color more neutral
2) Shape modified by moving original parts around using the select tool, knee joints added, etc.
3) Shading removed, linework modified further
4) Shoulders/head/joints shaded as spheres, legs/arms as cylinders, ...
5) Highlights added using the same method + one more color for reflections (brightest shade) so the armor looks metallic
6) Modified palette, more contrast between colors, started with lowering the saturation on midtones and then making the shadows less saturated + blue and highlights more saturated + yellow
7 & 8) Original shape with modified lighting from steps 4 & 5 with original and modified palette

Looks like an issue with the main site, minecraft.net is also down.

I noticed some builds like DDQ's wall had holes punched in them (fixed now). Did the map get corrupted or was it someone having fun?

Does it really make a difference? Surely, using a software to pay for your bills makes it more than a mere pixel lighting algorithm.
What I'd like to know is, what if the professional but digitalized work of our struggling designer gets stolen and used for someone else's gain, is that ok too?

So, pro software has pro features but how does that affect the amateurs? I could imagine that 95% of illegal photoshop copies are used for creation of forum signature pictures or simmilar art heavy on filter usage. Advanced features do not apply to them. Same goes for any software on that list.
If I need to create a vector image for personal use, why bother with illustrator when I can download a portable version of Inkscape which will do the job just as well?

Well, adding trash like this into your CV won't get you hired. Every secretary better know how to use MS Office and every artist/designer has to navigate Photoshop in his/her sleep. "Hello, I'm a graphic designer and I can use Paint.NET" is quickest way to get boot.

Which is exactly why a graphic designer should own a legal copy of his own?

Some ideas:



-reused Ilyich's sky
-changed the shape to resemble a mushroom more
-turned the fireplace into a stove, it allowed more detail like the pipe and the chimney
-background is brighter now so the objects pop out more (brightness should be toned down a bit)
-added a few lightsources and gradients to the walls

Things to add:
-more objects, a dinner table, some shelves, a water pump behind the house, etc.
-improved shadowing
-an entrance :P

I think the big misunedrstanding of this video is, that the lady belives there is some sort of "general thuth".

How did you get to that conclusion?

You missed a spot.

When the guy is talking about the "technique" around 1:10, there is a slow motion close up which shows nicely that the guy's feet get submerged to his ankles, which shows that it's not about surface tension (they're saying that it's about skimming).

Also, two minutes in, when they show the run in it's full lenght, you can see a dark spot just under where he runs ending where he falls.
