It's as easy as building a ramp and placing it just under the water surface so it is not seen from the camera's angle.

The YT comments are pretty interesting.

Interesting how low res characters seem to look more natural than their high res variations.

Anyway, can't wait to hear the bone song in it's new version (and the other themes as well).

Well, if it works on Win98, you could try running it with VDM Sound.

I don't have a problem with how games work with DosBox, but I don't like how they sound. Well, not a problem actually since I managed to find an old IBM P100 with an ESS audiodrive soundcard for those games.

Quote from: RickJThe clear implication of your usage of "no matter what" is that acting in one's own best interest will result in immoral consequences.  That's why people who don't like free market capitalism insist on characterising actions taken on one's one behalf as greed.
I never said that, there is an "if" in my question. It was a reaction to making the greed and self interest the same. Would you say that greed is a form of self interest or does self interest always equal greed?

Quote from: miguel on Sun 31/01/2010 14:04:15"We are capable of making our own choices (in democracies at least). ", how much of that sentence is exactly true?
As people, we are in charge of everything man-made. It's just that we are more interested in securing ourselves from opposing views than informing ourselves to be capable to create and understand a better society. There's nothing wrong with that, it is also a matter of choice.

QuoteI'm afraid that life's choices are very limited right now, and I do think that modern societies are profit oriented.
The price of land has risen so much that most people can only expect to live in a building surrounded by pollution and noise. A house in the country costs the amount of bricks it took, water pipes, electric connections, sewer facilities and a roof, and I know what I'm talking because my grandfather built his house.
This days you have to pay for an architect that will charge you what he wants, the City Hall will send inspectors to verify the quality of the building as if they will ever live there, and they will arrange a "workaround" so that the project goes through, and because all those materials are so damn overpriced you'll get to a final bill that clearly exceeds the real price of the house.
And that's if you want to build it, when comes to buying the price rises 5 to 10 times or even more depending on the location.

So, how come we have a choice here? We have the choice of not having a house and to live on a apartment...
Well, greed self interest was already agreed with, doesn't this fit? You wouldn't expect everyone owning land in exclusive locations in a free market, would you? Come to think of it, you wouldn't expect everyone owning land no matter the location.

However, there is nothing dishonest or non-transparent with how the location affects the land value.

Quote from: InCreatorLooking at history, the farthest and most sci-fi moment for capitalism to expire is when technology completely makes worker class obsolete. Again, it has happened - so could happen again. Imagine a robot flipping burgers or checking out in supermarket. It's cheap enough to use in every western store. How many workplaces do you lose? How many pissed off cashiers would it generate?
Wouldn't that be weird, we create a machine that frees people from a boring job and gives them more free time for their loved ones, hobbies, etc. but instead, it ruins their lives. Why is it like that? Well, I'm sure the supermarket owner has his best interests covered. I bet his former employees won't be buying that house in the city any time soon, though.

Quote from: miguelMorality is something very subjective, and because something is legal it doesn't mean that the maker of that law had any moral sense.
I agree.

Morality does not exist in an objective sense, yet it's constantly used as propaganda. It's a personal thing and yet individuals expect others to embrace their values.
Of course, there are some general values that most come to agree upon but they're either necessary or just practical.

Quote from: RickJHe says that everyone is greedy (i.e. everyone is acting in their own self interest) and that's what the world runs on in every country, society, form of government, etc.  He points out that people, governments, corporations, etc act in their own economic self interest or their political self interest.
Like Miguel, you assume "given that he pays his taxes, hires people and doing so benefits his social universe". What happens when you attach "no matter what" to your self interests?

But going back to the first post:
Quote from: miguelOne of the big mistakes of modern civilization is to think History didn't happen. The words of the elder and wise lost their weight on young people who are dominated by tons of superfluous information that arrives in a constant wave of propaganda every single minute.
Like zoombies modern people live to buy and work for the ones that sell.
Who is awake? But more important and dangerous, what kind of people are awake?
You make it sound as if something is out of it's place.

We are capable of making our own choices (in democracies at least). The state (not saying it is negative) of our society/societies is a result of them. So, what's the problem? We're not talking about a system that has been forced upon us.

Got the 3.6 beta and it worked.

Thanks Calin.

I think I know which effect you're talking about. I'm not sure if there's a specific plugin that deals with it but you could try to build an effect chain and replicate it yourself.

First of all, the effect comes slightly before the actual words being spoken/sung. That would probably indicate that it isn't a realtime filter.
Some characteristics would probably be a limited attack (fade in), echo/reverb and other effects distorting the sound (phaser, distortion, vocoder).

Do you use FL Studio? If you do, I could try to replicate the effect and send you the .flp file or tell you what I used if I succeed.

I'm sorry I can't offer more help, I'm trying to recreate the sound in my mind from memory or figure out where to play it back from.

My recommendation would be the LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio) which is very similar to FL Studio:

http://lmms.sourceforge.net/

There are sites with free instruments or effects (echo, chorus, phaser, distortion, ...) which can be used within LMMS like

http://freemusicsoftware.org/category/vsti or complete databases:
http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php

You could also check out "Sound Club for Windows":

Linux MultiMedia Studio 0.4.4 - free music studio

Despite it's name, there is a windows version.

QuoteIf you guys were interested the drums are actually my Roland electric kit, running through a mono cable so that's probably where the dynamics were lost.
Since you mentioned that, why not use a MIDI cable to connect the module with your sound card? That way you could record the drumbeat sequence itself and change the drum samples, dynamics, tweak every element (snare/kick/hat/...), etc. afterwards.

Some spare time flew into my hands:

http://media.putfile.com/Audio-Puppy---Half-Empty

I was adding the track in the new mix in this order:

Intro track - Just added a flanger effect, pan remains in the middle

Drums - Like Dkh said, using more mics helps a lot, drums sound much more interesting when they feel spaced out. For the current mono recording, I used a stereo enhancer but pushed it only so far until the snare was moved aside a bit. After that, a compressor was applied to bring out the snare and the kick. Pan = middle

Bass - a bit enhanced, pan = middle.

The guitars - at this point, I just wanted to remove the low frequencies so they don't clash with the rhythm section. Pan -40/40.

Vocals - A bit of reverb and a bit of delay just to "widen" the track.

I could have payed more attention to the volume of the track, it should be louder. Low frequencies could be lower, but I feel that would make the current bass track "invisible".

Dkh said everything else.

No. Actually, I've put Ubuntu on my laptop, combined with Rosegarden, it's only that I have a lot of crap paddled in my direction so you'll have to wait, atleast, until the weekend for my "paintover".

Sorry and be patient, and sorry again.

Just wanted to let you know that the download link worked for me. So far, I separated the tracks into their own .wav files and started tweaking them (removing the glitches in the vocal track and adding a bit more punch to the drums through filters, for an example) before they get added into the final mix. I'll post the steps with the completed mix.

dkh, the site you uploaded the track to seems to be down.

With http://www.filefactory.com/ you can upload up to 300MB per file.

I would like to try and remaster the 3rd song. PM me with it's master tracks if you're ok with that.

I guess, when talking about signed posters (that's basically what they are), you are paying for the signature and not the art itself. That just enables more people that have no idea how to express themselves artistically to put something on their walls and appear to understand or enjoy it. I see no point in this other than profit.

As for the music, I believe it will always get multiplied and shared, no matter how many numbers it was originally released in. Just like that JMJ album you mentioned. The quality might not be superb but it is out there.

Concert videos and audio CD's might not be close to the real thing but sometimes they are really worth getting. Take, for an example S&M from Metallica. Most of their concerts are boring and not really worth spending money on but S&M is unique.
Also, with artists and bands like Jeff Buckley, Calexico, Bob Dylan, Tool, Muse, ... live recordings are often spiced up with different interpretations of their songs or tributes to other people's music which is OK since music should be experimented with.

QuoteBut how would one go about creating digital (or analogue) copies which use that uniqueness? Thus giving a different (higher) value to a single piece of music? Bypassing publishers, sponsors, etc, directly to the audience?
Didn't NIN do something similar with their new album? Selling it directly from their website and offering a free download of a 1/4 of the songs.
Also, Radiohead with "In Rainbows" and I've also read about Muse stopping to release classic ~10 song albums and releasing single tracks instead (which would probably work for them since they generated about 50 B-Sides songs which weren't released with their albums).
On the other hand, they probably have enough cash and fame to be experimenting with that sort of things.
