Holy crap, that is one awesome BG!

The only thing that looks weird is the truck, I don't think that the wheels should be visible from the views position.

You could also add some more details (hole on the fence, car tyres, trash, etc) but it already looks great.

Quoteshould I still reverse the gradient?
Well, I would.
Unless the water near the cliffs is deep, and there is a shallow part further away from the land.
#483
Your BG's keep getting beter and better.

Paintover:

a)Nice work on painting the sea, but isn't it more logical that it should be drawn brighter where the water is shallow (near the shore), and darker where the water is deeper? That's just what i did.

b)made the sky gradient parallel with the horizon.

c) The top of the red building should be the lighter than the back of it. When I look at the shading of your pic, it looks like the light source is behind the buildings, so the walls closer to the player should be colored darker

d)the perspective of the room inside the red building is wrong, I tried to correct it a little.

Hope that helped.

Yep, that's because of evilgamemakers avatar, it's on sharemations webspace and everytime it tries to load a password for it is needed.

My edit:

I added some shadows and highlights to make his shirt look wrinkled, but it didn't turn out so good. Make something simmilar on his shirt and trousers to make them look less plastic.

You could also add some details like a logo on the skate or his shirt, etc.

I like it, very professional.

QuoteGive it your worst
Ok, ok. Here goes:
The only thing I find wrong with the tree is that it looks more like a bush then like a tree.

Here's what I mean:

QuoteI'll PM you soon about beta testing, if you're interested.
Ofcourse I am.

Great sprite!

Only thing I noticed are his feet. I don't know how to explain what's wrong with them, so here's an (really small) edit:

Here's my edit, all done in MsPaint:

And here's what I did, and how I did it:

1.drew the outlines of the beach, mountains and cactus

2.shaded them, used three gradients of color for each: darkest for shadow, lightest for highlights, and medium for midtones

3.created a sky gradient using freehand and fill, and drawing the sun

4.added texture to the water:
a)copied the mountains, flipped them around the x axis, and scaled them on the y axis, then painted them in more blueish tones
b)created a gradient that gets darker with depth starting from the sandy beach
c)created suns reflection by drawind random lines

What You could do next is add some (subtle) noise to the sand and the mountains, draw some shells on the beach, some thorns on the cactus, etc, It's all in the details

Hope this helps.

General Discussion / Re: silly game: Showdown!

Check out this page:
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/gallery.cgi?viewpage=172

You'll see that there's no showdown.exe uploaded there.

Maybe Neole's web space doesn't support .exe files, try compressing it into a .zip archive, but I'm not sure that's the case here.

EDIT:
Yeah, that's the problem:
QuoteSupported file formats are jpg, jpeg, gif, png, pcx, bmp, tiff, mid, zip, doc.

MOLL = minor
DUR = major

Maybe it's the chords you are using, for example:

But I don't know...Ã,  Ã, could you post your midi here?

BTW: this is maybe for critics longue.

Cool new style you got there Junc, it reminds me of Yoda stories a bit.

And thanks for the game sources.

Thanks Auhsor.
About the myst, I think that this is the best way to make it using MsPaint, and yeah it looks all pixelly and cool. Heheh.

I would also like to thank Darth, he has helped me improve my style a lot, and Igor for his art and especially for this:
QuoteInk or Photoshop are for pussies

He he.

Here's the new version, based on the DM's edit:

x2:

I:
-added some noise on the ground
-fixed the sky
-added reflection on the background lake
-added some myst on the mountains

Igor:
Yeah, I see what you mean. It's weird how i never notice those things. Anyway, I made this mostly to practice on my tree making skills, and to try out a new sky drawing style.
QuoteBtw, great backgrounds otherwise.

Thanks Darth and Babloyi, that helps a lot!

I'll try adding some noise to the grass (which is not hard to do using MsPaint), and i noticed that the clouds look weird and need to be fixed.

When it's finished, it'll be posted here.
