What's up with that irrational fear? Sarcasm?

Not just file sharing.

There's all sorts of ad revenue they're losing if consumers don't stick to their websites or their cable channels.   They don't make any profits off the sketch comedy websites or places you visit like the Onion.     They don't make any money off of AGS either.   And the more time we spend away from them the less ratings and ad sales they receive.
Don't forget about open-source. There are a lot of substitutes for various commercial software and they keep getting better and better. How to stop it? Just break their communities.

Quote from: EldKattThink about good old businesses, pro-democratic organizations in those scary Middle Eastern places everyone fears, as well as some of the guys who kind of started it all: universities and research institutes. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think the ISPs are powerful enough to overthrow all of that.
I'm guessing the sites labeled with "advertise" or "commercial" would be allowed by the ISP's, probably as long as the organization pays the "don't ban me" fee.

Any info about a PC release?

Just a quickie I did, separating the text with a fancy fold:

I can post the .psd file if you want.

Also, I'd like to see Darth's design but with a treble clef instead of a note. Might fill the space better.

Ah, the things we look for in music.

Both songs carry a catchy tune. Perhaps you could start fiddling with the production now.
The background instruments don't really give more depth to the songs, also, their sounding like recorded MIDI doesn't help either. When working with more instruments, try to add a simple melody to each one, or just make the backing tracks not play the same notes for some variety.

I'm not sure what software you use but there are some good sounding freeware VST instruments and also free VST hosts in which you can write and record the backing tracks using those virtual instruments.

General Discussion / Re: PETA?

Well, in Nikolas' post I see some peasants beating animals to death. If such videos would come from a factory in the USA or developed European countries, I'm sure some legal measures would be drawn. But PETA turns this around somehow and a peasant beating down an animal seems to be a global problem.

If they really want to do something about it, they should find these people and deal with them.
I don't even see the point in fur, even if the animal was killed in a "humane" way. Artificial fur - I have no problem with it.

There were some other videos, KFC (not sure) workers throwing chickens at a wall. Sick f**ks but they were dealt with. PETA made a video, of course, and somehow turned that into a "don't eat meat" debate. Well bohemians, I can see you as vegans, but how would that diet affect a person that works 10hrs a day working on your roads and buildings.

PETA is not an organization anymore, it's a corporation now. There must be a way to protect animal rights, but not like PETA does.

Well, using the version downloaded from Abandonia, I have no problem. In the main menu I see:
-Save disk
-Save
-Load
-Start over
-quit

Ordinary "save" function works flawlessly. Besides, the game + VDM sound is not even 5MB in size so you could test it.

Get cracking people, I'm already at 12:20 in game and waiting Tuesday to carry on. :)

Getting the game and running it under windows XP:

Get the game from here.

Now, the game runs fine under XP except it lacks sound. To avoid using DosBox (mounting, tweaking the cycles, bleh), get VDM Sound from here and install it.

Extract the game to any folder you want and run SETUP.EXE first. On the first screen select "vga", "adlib" on the 2nd screen and "Mouse" on 3rd.

The last step is running the game through VDM Sound so it enables Adlib mode we selected. Right click the CRUISE.exe and select "Run with VDMS".
You have a choice, you can use the default configuration or you can create your own, I suggest sticking with the default one in this case.

If you choose to go with a custom configuration and creating one from scratch, you will get a chance to tweak stuff such as enabling expanded or extended memory, setting up a game port, modifying the IRQ ports, etc.

One more thing concerning VDMS, if you select the default configuration and plan to use it for other games, the ports and sound cards you have to select are:

MIDI (MPU-401): port 330
Adlib: port 388
Sound Blaster 16: port: 220 IRQ: 7 DMA1 (8bit): 1 DMA2 (16bit): 5

In game, press left mouse button to interact with the object on screen, right mouse button to see your inventory and press both of them to see the Load/Save/Quit menu.

EDIT:
QuoteI haven't played this game, but I understand that the progress is measured in time, and that each solved puzzle or correct action makes some 30 mins or full hour pass. So I propose that the first segment we play is up to the point where the clock strikes 12:00. I hope this can work out well.
Actually, the time that passes with correct actions variates. So far, I don't recall performing any action that advanced the clock more than 10-15 minutes. I'm at ~9:30 at the moment.

A small paintover:

Steps:
-1- original image
-2- made the feet smaller and body less stronger
-3- shortened the neck and the face, chose the light source to be above the sprite and shaded accordingly, changed the anatomy some more, increased the contrast between the tones, removed the unneeded colors with similar values (black and dark blue, for example), finally reduced it to 6 colors.

I tried to keep the palette close to the original one. Hope it helps.

General Discussion / Re: AGS Music 1.0

Well, one problem with money, as I see it, is that you can't control what people contribute and the ways they want to get credited.

Let's say a person decides to "borrow" someone else's work or use non royalty-free samples and no one notices at first. If it's sold - too late. However, if it's in a free database, I'm guessing it wouldn't be that big of a deal and could be removed without too much problems.

Shouldn't that highlight be mirrored vertically?

How about a "Tune Contest" entries database? Similar to MAGS one?

Here's the image at a smaller size so the forum page doesn't get distorted on 1024x768 and smaller resolutions:

Please use it.

If you want the correct perspective with one vanishing point, remove the others and draw the lines again. It would look like:

The vanishing point (little cross) should probably be a bit higher so there is more of the 2nd story floor.

There could be problems with adding objects, walk areas and hotspots, so I recommend checking out
A Friend Indeed : The Adventures of JP & Cosmo's old school RPG type perspective.

Thank you.

Me again.

This time I'm looking for a cover of Iggy Pop's Candy. The only thing I remember is the video. The location is a bar, a blonde female singer and her band play the song on a small stage. The male vocals are sang by a drawn (cartoon like) vampire.

Oh, and there is a guitar in the video with a transparent green body.

That was a yes/no question, no need for prejudices.

Quote.like someone who mentions that God is primitive and silly?
And I said that...    where?

QuoteBut you never actually explained what you and your lugubriously atheistic colleagues believe about death.
The only thing we know about death are proven facts. The body shuts down, energy passes from one form to another.

QuoteGod through the notion that humans came from monkeys, and monkeys came from ooze laying around for 100 years.
QuoteHumans didn't evolve from monkeys, monkeys and humans share a common ancestor millions of years ago.  Get it right.

QuoteI believe that Jesus is the only man that is worthy to worship.
I believe no man is worthy to be worshiped. We're all the same.
QuoteThe majority of people in this forum hate god, religion and anything spiritual.
Majority? A majority of people from these forums aren't replying in this thread.

Quotealthough the statement 'Holy Spirit and Jesus can go to hell' is sort of an oxymoron if you don't believe in hell
It was quite clear that statement (and the one about magic) were not serious, but feel free to keep holding on to it if you need to.

QuoteHence, "religious" people must stay silent, or joke lightheartedly when someone attacks their religion, or fear the risk of being ostracized from the community a la Rharpe.
Or they should just post with a dose of "IMO", not sending everyone who disagrees to hell.

Also, if you're going into a debate, you should be prepared to answer people's questions instead of ignoring them, and just choosing to answer the ones you can.
