QuoteLet me ask you again, do you agree that if you were born on Islam territory, in an Islamic family, you would be 100% with that religion, as you are now with Christianity?
Take your time.
It is time.

QuoteJesus died for everyone, whether you wanted Him to or not.
It doesn't work that way. You can't assume everybody believes in this. I don't care, but a member of another religion would be offended.

Quote"If evolution exists, then why aren't monkeys changing into people nowadays?"
Remember this quote?
QuoteEvolution and natural selection is not random and the only people who say it is are religious people trying to disprove it. You don't understand the science behind it, sorry.

QuoteThat is incredibly true. It only proves that there is a god, because those who preach Him get bashed, but those who reject Him don't.
Actually, it proves nothing. You just wrote it as a fact, but that doesn't make it one.

Quote...and not screwing up anybody...
Bingo!

Do not confuse disagreeing with bashing.

QuoteSo what do you believe? Random creatures evolving from primordial ooze after a random bang that happened in the universe?
Yes, evolution, among other things.
QuoteHow could God not exist? Everything in creation is so complex, it couldn't have happened randomly.
And where did He came from?
QuoteScientists have barely even scratched the surface of the human body, let alone anything else. Less than 20% of species have even been discovered yet.
And that's your argument? We know little, so there must be a God?
QuoteIt baffles me how quick you people are to reject God and Jesus Christ. Why not reject Allah? Buddha? Shiva? Guru Nanak?
Being an atheist surely includes not believing in those, too.
QuoteWell, at least blasphemy against Christ is forgivable by Him. But blaspheming the Holy Spirit... that's another issue. All of you- so stiff necked! Why do you all curse in Christ's name? Why not Allah's?
Why do you assume it matters to me? Also, I see no cursing.
QuoteIslam kills itself off with blatant contradictions. In some places it takes an almost biblical stance on violence, then it says to beat your wife.
I agree, but that wasn't my point (but you already know that). Let me ask you again, do you agree that if you were born on Islam territory, in an Islamic family, you would be 100% with that religion, as you are now with Christianity?

QuoteSo you think being overly legalistic is good?
No, because laws are like religion and gods - human products. And humans make mistakes.

QuoteTelling someone that the only way to be saved is through Jesus
Is it? You're saying this as it's a fact. And why? Because the book with the cross says so.

I guess you believe this to be 100% true. Now, imagine you were born on Islam territory. There would be another truth for you and you would swear in it like you do now.

Besides, that's just what I was talking about (forcing it down).

Jesus did not die for me.
Do not pray for me, I'll be fine.
I was not a product of sin and wasn't born in one so stop using scare tactics on me.

QuoteOpening up a church and letting them in is great, but that doesn't grant them salvation.
No, a steady job and a place to live is their salvation.
#87
Quote...because the Bible is treated more like a textbook than a guidebook for living.
I can't agree that's a bad thing.
QuoteThat's true, but the churches should also be ministering to the homeless.
No, they'd be taking the homeless in because they act like Jesus wants them to. Forcing something down their throats in return is the opposite.
QuoteIt seems like churches nowadays are scared to tell anyone about Christ for fear of offending someone.
They're worried about offending people, except there was that one time when the Pope compared atheists to satanists.
Quote
QuoteAnd Jesus replies, "Whatever extent that you did these things to the least of people, you did it to Me."
Yeah, that is an excellent quote. Of all bible passages, that's one of my favourite.
But, why is the image of Jesus needed here? Can't you look at someone else and see another human being that's equal to you?

QuoteI didn't see YOU offer the guy any advice so don't act smart when you don't have any answers.
Please look again.

Mouth, could you post screenshots of your running processes from the task manager?
Here's how you do it:
-press ctrl+alt+delete
-click on the processes tab
-resize the window so the whole list is visible
-press prt sc (print screen) on your keyboard
-open up your image editing program and click edit>paste
-post the image here like you would with your background/sprite art
-also you could take a screenshot of the performance tab
BTW, sorry if you already knew how to do this.

Quoteit's a common problem when trying to run advanced 3d games on an insuffecient (/"minimum") hardware configuration.
Except that is not the case here.
#90
It shouldn't be the graphics card, my configuration is:

Athlon 1700
512MBRam
Radeon 9000 Pro 128MBVram

and the game runs fine in 1024x768 mid-high details.

Could it be:
-some windows process using up the resources?
-windows installation got screwed up (defragment, clean the registry, etc.)?
-a virus?
-old drivers?
#91
Also, it could be the sound options (EAX). The mixing of multiple sounds caused slowdowns on my comp., otherwise the game ran fine (we have pretty much the same configuration, my CPU is 1.7Ghz).

Very nice sprite, the colors are great.

Here are some ideas:

2x:

-1- original sprite, palette drawn out bigger so it's easier to work with
-2- added one more shade for the skin, increased the contrast between the skintones and shaded the face
    (light source above the sprite)
   - made the hand outline more clear to show you the problem with it
   - head moved one pixel to the right
-3- tried to fix the hands (sorry)
   - tried to fix the collar, white shirt removed
-4- tried to shade the hand
   - darkest hair tone merged with the shoe color
   - white color removed
   - merged the belt color with the shoe highlight
-5- further (exaggerated) color mods, merging and editing colors with similar values (seen from palette)

Ideas:
-a wristwatch
-belt buckle
-ranks, other sewn (sp) details on the shirt
-fingers :)

Critics' Lounge / Re: Character c&c

We could help you more if we knew more about the character's personality, or the time he's from, etc.

C&C:

You are using hi-res detail on 2x resized low-res sprites. I'd suggest ditching the detail (dithering pattern on the shirt in the left-right walk cycle for example) and sticking with the original resolution from the MI sprite.

The current animations are a bit choppy, maybe you could add 2 or 4 more frames to make them more fluid.

There are some inconsistencies between the views, the trousers go higher in the south walk cycle (mentioned earlier), there is no tie in the left-right one, and so on. What you could do is paste the L-R besides the south one and draw some lines as a reference so you don't get the eye/pants/tie/mustache/... heights mixed up. Here is an example of what I'm trying to say.

It is clear that the south walk cycle is a 3 frames + 3 more frames with the body mirrored. Check out the badge (?) and the way his head moves. Also, the tie moves a lot while his upper body doesn't rotate at all. This would be noticeable in the shoulders.

Also, try preparing the frames before creating the .gif. Then you could avoid the troubles with transparencies, weird background shifts and character twitching. Then again, it could be your animating software acting up.

EDIT:
Ok, just noticed the GIP thread.

If the character is 50, you could add some gray hairs (facial too), some lines on his face, slap on a beer belly and you're set.

Please, post your pixel art as either .gif or .png (recommended if you're using mspaint). Jpg distorts small low-color images too much, it's hard to tell what's going on with the penguin's feet, for example.

QuoteIs anybody interested in a background that I'm working on too?
That's why we're here.  ;)

I don't mind, feel free to use it.

Good luck with your game.

Tested and retested:

Download link (follow the guide below it):
http://rapidshare.com/files/18267933/BaSS.exe.html

Getting the archive from the internet:
  • click on the link above
  • scroll down and click on "Free"
  • wait for the timer to reach zero
  • enter the generated code and press enter on your keyboard

Good. Now you have BaSS.exe (self extracting .zip archive) on your computer.
Next steps:
  • run BaSS.exe
  • in the "extract to" space, enter the directory where you want the game to be located (or just leave it c:\BaSS, that would be my suggestion)
  • click "Extract"
  • go into the directory where you unpacked the game
  • run scummvm.exe
  • on the right side, choose "Add game..."
  • the directory should be the one you're in by default so just click "Choose" below
  • now you can set up the game options, my advice is not to touch anything, just click "OK"
  • great, "beneath a steel sky" is on the list, just click "Start" and enjoy the game

Great improvement with your second version.

I have some suggestions:
(Sorry for it's size)

1) original sprite
2) legs moved to a bit more comfortable position
3) he had big shoulders for someone that skinny, fixed that
4) the head is about to be edited next so it's palette got drawn out and shading flattened to a mid value (it was pillow shaded before - pillow shading explained >here<.)
5) -merged some colors together since their values were so close
-took a skull image from google with the lightsource above it for reference and shaded accordingly
6) Quick pose example (not sure it fits his personality, though)
